Contemporary AA house by Parque Humano

Posted: 05 Sep 2011 10:55 AM PDT

This beautiful, simple and elegant house is located in Mexico City, Mexico and it was a project developed by Mexico City-based design studio Parque Humano in 2011. It's a modern creation, with a contemporary and minimalist design. The main idea was to create a sort of retreat from where the owners could observe and enjoy nature without bothering or being bothered.

Casa AA sits 2,240 meters above sea level and it's a very welcoming and open structure. The house features a living, dinning, kitchen and multipurpose room, three bedrooms, gazebo and a swimming pool. As you can see, there's a very nice balance between open and private areas. The house has been designed and built around an open landscape and it's like a pavilion perfect from being in close proximity to nature. In order to enhance this function, the design includes several floor-to-ceiling walls and windows that allows natural light to get inside and that also provide beautiful views.

Among the basic materials used when building this magnificent house, the bricks played a very important role. The bricks are great insulator, especially during summer when the heat can be very disturbing. The interior of the house is almost entirely wrapped in wood, thus creating a very relaxing, comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The furniture has also been chosen in matching colors, like beige and brown.

Comfy, modern and simple Sake pouf

Posted: 05 Sep 2011 08:11 AM PDT

Poufs, stools, ottomans and other similar items have become an important part of our lives. A few years ago all we had was a bed and some poor chairs. Today we have a multitude of options, more comfortable, more fun and more versatile. In fact, the versatility is probably the most important factor in the same of poufs and ottomans.

A piece like Sake, a simple but very functional pouf, can be used in a variety of different ways. It could be used in the living room, as a seating place when using the coffee table, as an extra seat when guests come over, as an additional piece in the bedroom, near the bed, as a seat in the garden, deck or terrace. So we can all agree that it's a very functional piece of furniture. Moreover, if we look at Sake, we notice that it also has a very pleasant design.

It's simple but in the same time eye-catching. It's made from rigid base and a cushion restrained by two elastic bands to the base. It's a very stable and resistant piece and it also has an ingenious design. The pouf is available in a variety of colors, like grey, beige or black. The base will always remain white, for contrast. The colors are neutral and calm and they all look very nice in combination with the white base and the red striped. For sale on Rs-Barcelona.

The Single-Family Oxlade Residence by Arkhefield

Posted: 05 Sep 2011 06:40 AM PDT

This solid and dynamic-looking house is located in New Farm, an inner suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. And it was a project developed by Brisbane-base studio Arkhefield. The construction was completed in 2009. At the beginning the owners wanted a bold contemporary house design but the town planning codes dictated that the house must adopt a Character Housing typology. This meant that they had to give up their original plans and reorient toward something a little less bold and more compact and simple.

Nevertheless, they managed to come up with an impressive modern design. The most impressive feature of the house is definitely the dynamic and irregular roof. It's a steel roof placed on a concrete structure. The house has a solid structure and a compact design, with a solid core and integrated verandas and layered screening.

The interior of the house is not divided into traditional room but adopts a more fluid structure, with wrapping walls and large open spaces. The barrier between private and public is less visible than in traditional home but it's still there. Inside, there's a spiral staircase that connects the levels, featuring a very artistic shape, like a ribbon undulating in the wind.

Overall, the house is a very beautiful and bold place, with a dynamic contemporary design. It seems like the owners, together with the architects, managed to get over the impediments without having to renounce to a lot of things.

Autumn Colours for the Curtains

Posted: 05 Sep 2011 05:03 AM PDT

I don’t know if you have notices, but we changed seasons and it is already autumn. Little by little days are getting shorter and leaves start falling from trees. And I usually feel the need to make some changes in my house, too, when there’ s another season at the door. And, of course, the easiest way to do it is to change some details like the curtains for example. You can have one curtain for each season and choose autumn colours for the curtains now.

You can find a lot of different models and patterns in the online stores and you can choose the right colours and sizes there. For example the curtain in the first picture is perfect for this season, with hues of brown and orange and leaves all over the curtain. You can buy this curtain here starting with 23 pounds, depending on size. Or you can try your hand at making your own autumn pattern. It is not that hard: you can take a normal white cloth and just cut some leaf shapes out of a brown fabric and sew them on the cloth. You will have an original and personalized autumn curtain like the one in picture 2.

Fougere wallcoverings – colorful florals and striking geometrics

Posted: 05 Sep 2011 04:07 AM PDT

Does your home need a make-over? It means it's time to have fun. We've already discussed a very beautiful and exotic collection of fabrics that could help you change the atmosphere and the interior décor. Now it's time to continue on the same subject, even with the same collection, but time we're talking about the walls.

Whenever you feel like your home tends to look a little old and you got bored with it, maybe you should consider changing some things. And it doesn't need to be something big and messy. You can bring a new touch to your walls for example without much trouble. Take a look at the Fougere collection. Like the fabric collection with the same name, this one is also inspired by the Royal Botanical Gardens of Europe. It features exotic floral shapes combined with bold geometrics, resulting in a striking and artistic combination.

There's a wide range of colors and patterns to choose from. If you want something a little more simple and sober, you can opt for the black and white stripes or the geometrical figures for example. If you want something more fun and colorful, the floral patterns are the best. You can combine them or choose a different theme for each room. Also, you can choose a different pattern for each wall of the room, thus creating a mixture of elements resulting in a modern and fun décor. Again, the imagination is the key.

Ogden Dunes Indiana Residence With Private Courtyard

Posted: 05 Sep 2011 02:47 AM PDT

This compact but otherwise architectural house is located within a hilly dune landscape along Lake Michigan, United States. It was a project developed by Wheeler Kearns Architects. The owners wanted a place that would provide privacy and enclosure but that would also be airy and large enough to make everyone feel comfortable.

The design of the house is rather compact and consists of a series of L-shaped masonry stucco walls that help functionally divide the place. Also, this configuration of walls allows multiple views to be available.

On the north, the house has an opening to a public beach. The access path to the beach opens up a little the site that is actually very narrow. The owners can admire the beautiful views to Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline, available from several rooms of the house. The interior spaces of the house are functionally divided so that the public and the private rooms would not interfere with each other and that everyone would benefit from privacy. There is also a private courtyard that became the hearth of the house.

There the owners chose to have native plants and a permeable landscape. It's easy to maintain and take care of and it creates a natural environment and easily integrates into the surroundings. The house also has a south facing elevated deck that provides both privacy and an open area.

Truro Single family Residence by ZeroEnergy Design

Posted: 04 Sep 2011 10:40 PM PDT

This beautiful and unusually-looking house is the perfect summer and holiday getaway for the owners. The architects chosen to work at this project were ZeroEnergy Design. The owners are a couple and their large family, including children and grandchildren. While they spend most of their time in Boston, they also wanted a summer house where they can come as a family. Because of the large number of children, grandchildren and loved ones, the house needed to accommodate an extensive number of bedrooms.

The house is cleverly and very functionally divided into two separate parts: the "Living Bar" and the "Sleeping Bar". The Sleeping Bar is the bigger part of the house and it includes the bedrooms and bathrooms.

The Living Bar includes the living and dining areas, as well as a secondary master bedroom. When the couple spends time alone here, which is during the weekends throughout the year, this is all they need. This means that the Sleeping Bar can be shut down during the majority of the year to decrease energy use.

When designing and building this house, the owners worked with the architects to create the perfect beach house. They thought of everything that would make their life easier.

The house features energy efficient appliances and water heaters, large solar electric array installed byNexAmp on the roof and careful choices for the flooring. They limited their options to slate, bamboo, and polished concrete, avoiding any carpeting that might capture dust, mites, mold, or moisture. They've also covered the outdoor area with indigenous plants that prevent erosion and don't require irrigation.
