It offers you the chance to practice a sport, to see the world or just admire the surroundings floating on the surface of a beautiful lake. For me ships, boats or planes occupy a special place in my heart. They remind me of some wonderful moments that I have spend far away from home or country and gave me opportunity to open my horizons and see the world from a different perspective. Casual Design Synagogue in New York by Dror Architects Posted: 29 Aug 2011 09:18 AM PDT Today we would like to present you the Soho Synagogue in New York. Designed by Dror architects this synagogue was the first one of its kind in the community and represents a fresh vision that translates the inspiration of Judaism to a new generation. The founders of this amazing synagogue, Rabbi Dovi Scheiner and his wife Esty, have come up with a place that not only represents their beliefs, but it also integrates their religion within their modern lifestyle. The architects played with dual meanings through the design details, such as the striped window that keeps the privacy which was once used by a fashion boutique, the stripes that can be confused with a bar code.
When entering this unique synagogue you go through a long narrowing reception area and on one of the walls you can see an installation with appearing bricks painted in different shades of blue and featuring the names of the donors. After passing the corridor you arrive at the top of a steel and glass stairwell opening the path to the sleek and amazing sanctuary. The Soho Synagogue is a wonderful landmark in New York. It is a place of comfort, where traditions can be embraced in a modern, casual design setting. What’s more it will hold both social gatherings and religious services. What do you think? Posted: 29 Aug 2011 05:48 AM PDT You have indoor lamps and you have outdoor lamps. They are all used for casting light and allowing you to see the things around and where you are going, but they are usually a bit different. For example you need a more brilliant and focused light because you need to see clearly what you are doing or to be able to read using that light. Whereas outside you need a gentle light that is used to show your way, but not perform minutious activities. Any way, this interesting Obus Indoor/Outdoor Light tries to combine all the qualities of these two kinds of lamps and it is made to be used both outdoors and indoors, too. That is why she has some special adjustments. For example if you place it on a flat surface it will cast some sweet ambiental light that is great for outdoors. But you can also hold it and lift it and in this case it will have a concentrated beam through its base to cast light where you need it. It can illuminate large areas evenly or focus or a small area. It is very easy to move from one place to another, as it works on batteries. Its LEDs use up to 3.2 watts of power and are rated to last 40,000 hours. It is made of PMMA on the outside and it makes it weather resistant and great to use outdoors. Go here for further details and also if you want to purchase it for $250. How to choose nursery curtains Posted: 29 Aug 2011 05:15 AM PDT Designing their baby’s nursery brings in lots of excitement and fun in the mind of new parents, and what can be better than choosing the best matching curtains to give that perfect finishing touch to the room. There are certain important things to consider before you buy curtains for your baby’s nursery. You must be clear about the color and material of the curtain you will be buying. You make a wrong choice and it will spoil the look of the entire nursery. Before you go shopping, you need to do a bit of research on certain things. Butterfly Sheer from 26$. Color of the curtains is very important. Most of you might have already had a theme and the curtain’s color should definitely match the theme. You can go for dark colors in the initial stage, as it is very important for your child to have a good sleep. Later on, you can go for light colors like pink, sky blue etc.
Baby Boats Valance from 18$. Another thing to consider is the material of the curtain. It can be in cotton, silk. Sometimes even netted curtains give a great look. You also need to decide the thickness of the curtains. Is it transparent? Does it prevent dust from entering the room? There are many such questions that you might like to ask yourself while considering the material and the thickness of the curtains for the nursery. Beansprout Silhouette Safari Valance from 25$. Apart from these things, another thing to consider is the length of the curtains. In the early stage, long curtains won’t be a problem but when the baby starts learning how to stand, he might start pulling the curtains. So, better at this stage go for curtains with shorter length so that he can’t pull it. Also, consider the prints. You might even want to go for plain curtains, which too looks great. Daisy Garden Valance from 18$. You don’t need to have a huge budget to buy curtains. However if you go for very good quality and branded ones, it will cost more, but even if your budget is low you will be getting good and variety of curtains. It is very important to have this place properly arranged and decorated for your baby. You can always take the help of the internet. Whenever you are confused, browse the net and you will get a solution to your query. Do remember that babies always like colorful things. So, never compromise in giving a perfect finishing touch to your kid’s nursery. Amanda Henderson-Marks: yes since I was little I was always changing my bedroom around and was very sensitive to my environment and always thinking about how to express myself with my bedroom. I knew when I was studying textiles design. I felt this wasn't for me to be in the background I went with a friend to her interior design interview loved the college and applied also. I got in and she didn't!! Lyn Gardener: I have always been interested from a very young age. My mother was always decorating the home and I just found it was a natural instinct and passion. I always have fond memories of watching my mother decorate.
Homedit:Where do you find your inspiration? Amanda Henderson-Marks: Fabrics and old pictures and colours from twigs ,sticks and stones. I love neutral grey taupe palette with dark accents. Modern Open Space Coffee Bar in Murau, Austria Posted: 29 Aug 2011 01:04 AM PDT Located in a very small town called Murau from Argentina, this modern place was a project developed by Architektur Steinbacher Thierrichter. It was originally a traditional tavern with remaining part from a 13th century building. So it was a historic place with some significant details. However, it needed some changes in order to make attractive again. In 2006 the building was enlarged, by adding a Café-Bar. In order to do, the architects working at the project used a new hybrid technology. They used a series of regionally significant materials like wood and steel. This combination of materials allowed a smooth transition from the old building and its characteristics and the newer additions.
What's particularly interesting and nice is the fact that the building is in perfect harmony with the surroundings. It has the same height and scale as the rest of the surrounding buildings and it blends naturally and very smoothly with the rest of the structures, rather than separating itself from them. It's a very nice example of how you can integrate a modern building into a more traditional environment without making it stand out more than it's necessary. The new Café-Bar also offers very beautiful views over the forest and the rest of the surroundings.
