Stylish Swivel Lopod Armchair with Armrests

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 10:45 AM PDT

When talking about a particular piece of furniture, like an office chair, everyone seems to have the same design in mind. We mostly imagine a chair with a round or tripod base and a adjustable height. The rest of the design might differ because in most cases that's what it does.

Here's an armchair that meets those criteria and that also has something else called style. Lopod is an elegant armchair that was designed by Giulio Manzoni for Enrico Pellizzoni in 2011. So it's a new creation and like most new pieces it features a simple but eye-catching design. As you can see, there are two versions: one with a round base and one with a tripod base on wheels. So depending on the purpose you intend to use the chair for, you can choose between these two options.

Lopod could make a very nice office or desk chair, as well as a comfortable kitchen or bar armchair. Its design is simple and elegant. It has curved lines that follow the body's silhouette. Lopod is also a very comfortable piece. Morover, it's a swivel armchair, so you can balance as long as you want. It comes in leather and the colors differ. There's a very nice tone of red what would add some color to the house and there's also a more quiet tone of brown. The steel base can either be painted in order to match the seat or it can come in a natural color.

DIY Fire Extinguisher Vase

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 10:26 AM PDT

Every institution has a fire extinguisher or even more for its protection from bad incidents. Usually these fire extinguishers have a period of use and after that they are replaced with some other new ones. Now think of the fact that you will have to replace your own fire extinguisher what would you do with the old one?

Here it is an interesting idea. You can create a DIY Fire Extinguisher Vase.The materials that you need are: an empty fire extinguisher (with the nozzle removed), 1/2″ wide masking tape, primer for metal, paint brush or sponge brushes, two acrylic paint colors (spray paint would also work well!), clear spray sealant (optional).

Soak your empty fire extinguisher in warm water and remove as much of the label as possible. A razor blade may be helpful to scrape off stubborn labels.

Paint the fire extinguisher with primer and let it dry completely. You may need to apply two or three coats of primer. Paint the entire fire extinguisher with the lighter of your acrylic paint colors and let it dry. Tape the extinguisher on all sides from the lip of the opening down to the base. Paint the vase with the second paint color and let it dry. Remove tape. Touch up any areas where paint oozed under the tape. If desired spray the vase with clear sealant coat to protect the paint.{found on witandwhistle}

Different Types of Bathtubs

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 08:01 AM PDT

When considering about remodeling your bathroom, a change in the bathtub is one of the easiest ways to alter the aesthetics and dynamic of the room. Once considered a luxurious item, bathtub is now available in a large variety making it possible for every household to enjoy the fun and excitement.

Clawfoot bathtubs – Clawfoot bathtubs are the oldest and simplest form of bathtubs being used since decades.  The distinctive feature of these bathtubs is that they have a slopped back with a flat or straight front. They are usually manufactured out of porcelain, acrylic, cast iron, or steel.

And now some freestanding bathtubs

Freestanding bathtubs – As the name implies, freestanding bathtubs are not built on the floor or enclosed by sides but are simple bathtubs standing on four legs. The taps or faucets are generally mounted on the bath tub itself and even may be mounted on the wall. These bathtubs are usually made out of cast iron, porcelain, and acrylic.

Drop in Bathtubs – Drop in bathtubs are installed within the floor and impart the feel of a swimming pool. They feature simplified looks as integrated faucets are installed. The only downside of these bathtubs is that it is slightly hazardous to come out of the bathtub as one needs to take long steps.

Whirlpool Bathtubs – Whirlpool bathtubs are considered to be the peak of progressing technology, sophistication and luxury. The most significant feature of these bathtubs which set them apart from the rest is that they have water motor and jet installed, which rotates the water in the bath for relaxation and massage.  Needless to be mentioned, but these are highly expensive and are thus employed in commercial residential areas, spas and buildings.Also you can take a look at 10 Unsusual Relaxing Bathtubs.{pictures found on decorati}

30-inch Electric Cooktop from Whirlpool

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 07:16 AM PDT

When I buy home appliances I don’t know why I prefer buying something that is recommended by a very popular brand like Whirlpool, Bosch or something similar. I am simply afraid to buy things and not know the brand because this is a kind of quality certificate for me. So I found this 30-inch Electric Cooktop from Whirlpool quite interesting. First of all it is an electric cooktop, so no worries about the gas being left open or the kids trying to use it and succeed. The four high speed elements are pretty big ( 8 and six inches respectively) so as to ensure the power to boil or cook dinner pretty fast.

The infinite heat controls help you select the right temperature from low to high and you have an indicator on the surface of the appliance telling you when the burner is hot. The cooktop is available in white, stainless steel and black, but there are also the chrome drip blows that makes it easier to clean the appliance. It is available now for $319.

Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 07:04 AM PDT

You need a lot of appliances in the kitchen when you cook, but I felt the need more than ever when I had a little baby and she started eating. At that point I had to mash all the vegetables and all the food because she wouldn’t eat it otherwise. So I bought an electric blender that was very useful. And now I found a very good version for you. It is the Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender. This blender is very easy to use because you can handle it with only one hand and this eases your work a lot.

It is equipped with a 200 watt motor that makes it work very fast and has a stainless steel blade that you immerse in the pot or bowl and just blend the food you want to, turning it into puree or juice or doe or any other recipe you might have in mind. The protective guard of the blender prevents splashing the food all over the kitchen . It is lightweight and safe to wash in the dishwasher. It comes with two plastic beakers and you can have it for $27.99.

Fully Loaded Chair by Rehhab

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 06:09 AM PDT

Here is a chair you will never want to sit on, even if you are really tired: the Fully loaded chair. This is not actually a chair you can use regularly like you do with a piece of furniture in your living room because it is only a concept, something like an art work that was made by the designer called Rehhab (his actual name is Alexander Leh and he was born in Houston, Texas). As he has a Master’s Degree in Industrial design, he thought of doing something to combine art and furniture, so he made the Fully loaded chair.

The chair has a steel frame and instead of the comfy cushion for the seat and back rest you will see an area filled with once fired gunshells. He needed 38 12 caliber gunshells that he used for his project , so now they are not at all dangerous, being empty. The design of the chair is pretty interesting and you can see it as being golden from a front view and red from behind, thanks to the different colour of the two parts of the shells. I did mention this is only a prototype or an art work or something similar, so do not expect to find it for sale in shops.

Simple and Modern Duplex Apartment by A-cero

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 05:58 AM PDT

Duplex apartments are very attractive, especially when you refer to one designed by the famous A-cero. Located in Galicia, in the northwest of Spain, this duplex apartment occupies the last two floors of a block of flats situated in a residential area. In a generally white environment, the blue and grey tones animate the space, no matter it is a gray carpet or a blue painting.

The particular form of this place and the few existing steel balls also change the mood of the dominant whiteness. The false roof allows natural light to enter the entire space, providing an interesting perspective over everything around. The wide entrance hall reveals a serene atmosphere where you definitely feel comfortable; the sculptural stairs give an interesting air, just as the black elements such as the wood console, the couches offer a perfect contrast.

Among the other elements that draw the attention there are coffee tables and armchairs, steel table and chairs in white skin; all these contributing to the modern ambient of the house. The kitchen is inviting in its disposition, the white appliances prove good taste and high quality. In their whiteness, the walls and the floor combine with the black parts creating some sculptural volumes that underline even more the key elements of the place: its design and luminosity, both unique. The paintings are the most significant splash of color that gives life to the entire apartment, providing an incomparable vibrant mood.

DIY Mirror Coffee Table

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 05:11 AM PDT

I am one of the persons that love mirrors. I spend a lot of time when I am in front of a mirror but I try not to exaggerate. I am not a Narcissist and I do not like to become one.

Mirror is the one that shows us our real image and never lies to us. Besides its practical purpose it is also an elegant surface that makes you think of beauty and refined things.Here it is an elegant piece of furniture. It is a DIY project that features a DIY Mirror Coffee Table.Its bright surface will make your interior décor become more sparkling and elegant. For this project you will need some materials like: plywood or MDF cut into pieces of the size of the future coffee table (4 sides, the tabletop and the bottom surface), several wooden planks to support a mirror on the top of the table, silver paint, mirrored panels, wood glue and of course a big mirror.

Now you are ready to start your work by following the next instructions. Assemble the frame and reinforce the corners. Attach wood planks on the top. Paint the frame in silver. Glue mirror plates on sides and the large mirror on the top. After glue is dry place the table in a living room and start to enjoy its new look.

Michael Tsinzovsky’s Israel-inspired collection

Posted: 08 Aug 2011 03:45 AM PDT

Michael Tsinzovsky has shown great interest for the Israeli culture, especially in the domain that interested him and which is furniture design. He closely observed all the details and after feeling confident enough he came up with his own furniture collection that is supposed to be a close representation of the Israeli culture.

The collection is composed of stools, chairs and a table. All the pieces share similar designs and similar details and decorative patterns. The stools are part of the  ’asli’ series. They are three and they feature specific designs. Actually, the shape and form is the same but the aspect differs. The techniques used to produces each of the three items are pressure molding galvanized steel, african walnut which has been CNC cut and laser cut veneer on oriented strand board (OSB). The materials also differ.The ‘co-existence’ is composed of chairs and table designs. They look simple but yet sophisticated. I don’t have a lot of information and knowledge in order to criticise this collection but to me it doesn’t look very traditional. It might be because it’s a modern adaptation of the actual designs.

Anyway, it’s an interesting collection that allows us to catch a glimpse at foreign cultures and maybe appreciate them better after the experience. Still, I would have liked the designer to give more specific information related to the actual traditional elements.{found on designboom}
