Top 5 washbasins we love

Posted: 02 Aug 2011 09:34 AM PDT

After presenting some articles related to this topic, we decided to make a list of the 5 most impressive washbasins we could find. In case you were looking for something similar for your own bathroom, maybe this list will ease your work.

1. Kinea

The first item we’re going to discuss is called Kinea and it’s a very simple and yet elegant washbasin designed by Massimo Iosa Ghini. It was designed for all types of homes, regardless of their age or interior design. Kinea is elegant and simple, but this doesn’t stop it from being an eye-catching piece. Because of its neutral and simple design, Kinea is also a very versatile piece that would happily complement any bathroom, private or public.Available on Teuco.

2. Travertino

This particular washbasin doesn’t look anything like the first one presented here. First of all, the materials used to make them differ since Travertino is made of marble. It’s not just the material that differ but just about everything. Travertino is definitely not a standard washbasin. It has an uncommon shape that makes it special from the start. It’s definitely a modern, even contemporary creation meant to be included into a sophisticated bathroom, where stye and elegance is important.Available on neolith.

3. Iroko

Sharing a somewhat similar design with Travertino, the Iroko washbasin is also a modern creation and it’s made of marble, just like it’s bigger brother. It was designed for modern bathrooms, where style and looks definitely play an important role. It’s a very simple piece, the only thing that makes it stand out being it’s design. It’s a subtle but elegant way of designing eye-catching pieces without using pointless decorations.Available on neolith.

4. Gaja Dark washbasin

Unlike its earlier competitors, Gaja Dark is visually more imposing and also more masculine-looking. This impression is given by the shape that is basically a square and also by the material used which is stone. It’s an impressing piece both in terms of design and durability. It’s not as versatile as the Kinea washbasin for example because not any bathroom would make a good environment for such an item. So think carefully before making a decision.Available on neolith.

5. Sasso

Sasso is another stone washbasin but this is the only similar aspect between this one and the Gaja Dark washbasin. Their designs are obviously different. Sasso is oval-shaped and the curved lines make it look more feminine and definitely more romantic than any other one presented here. One thing is certain: all these washbasins share in common simplicity, elegance and style. Some of them were inspired by nature while others were just meant to be eye-catching or simply functional.Available on MastellaDesign.

American Flag Bath Towel

Posted: 02 Aug 2011 08:31 AM PDT

What I like about the Americans is the fact that they are really proud of their nationality, even if they are in fact a mixture of nations and people coming from all over the world. This is great. And they are also very proud of the signs that show their nationality, especially the American flag that they wear on their clothes and paint on their towels, bed sheets, scarves and so on. Here is a very nice bath towel with the American flag design on. You can buy it on Amazon for just $14.99 and use it as a big bath towel or even as a beach towel that will help you get dried after a long bath.

This towel is entirely made of cotton, which is great, as it is perfect for absorbing the water dripping from your body. It is very soft and besides it is two-sided. It is printed in bright colours and the super soft printed velor side is perfect for wrapping into or lying on the beach. So go shopping!

If you have a stylish but sober living room, designed in black and white or maybe in dark shades, then you should try to get some out of the ordinary decorations, something that shines and glitters and draws attention through its simplicity and style. Something like this beautiful clock that has a natural bamboo design and is silver plated. It is square and simple, and its size – 5″ is perfect for any living room table.

This clock is silver plated, so it makes an elegant and precious decoration besides its functionality as a clock. Speaking of which: it displays time, but you can also use it as an alarm clock and this way you will never be late for school, office or any meeting. It works with a single AA battery that is not included in the purchasing price ($49) and you can find it on Pottery Barn web site. How to Get Rid of Ants That Invade Your Home?

Posted: 02 Aug 2011 07:24 AM PDT

It’s amazing how these tiny insects have such a good radar and detect any source of food for them in your home and then invade the house methodically until they drive you crazy. And then you are so desperate and call for the exterminator and fumigator. But why get there when there is too late and the ants have built nests under your floors? You can prevent this and here are six basic steps of how to get rid of ants.

1. The first step and the most important in my opinion is to avoid temptation, meaning to always keep your home clean, so that it cannot offer any food for the ants. Sweep the floor even twice a day and this way the ants will not be able to find bread crumbs on the floor. Wash the dishes and keep everything clean and all the food sources in their place – fridge, cupboard, etc.

2. Keep the fruit and the sweets in the fridge or in air tight containers because they attract insects like magnets. If you accidentally drop sugar or honey on the floor use bleach to clean it as any sweet drop left is an open invitation for ants.

3. Even if it sounds cruel, this is very effective, so step number three is to crush the ant -scout. So if you ever see an isolated ant crawling up your counter, be sure it is only a scout which is looking for new sources of food. And if this ant scout does not return to the nest with the info, your house remains safe.

4. Seal your home. You may think your house is without cracks and holes, the ants have a different size and point of view and every little crack is a way in. So get busy and buy a spray with foam and seal the windows, doors and any other cracks you notice, even the space near the floor and the wall-plugs and this will make your home safer.

5. Use some scents in the house that the ants consider repelling like: vinegar, peppermint oil, cinnamon, black pepper, whole cloves or bay leaves. Place these in small bowls or hang the plants around the entrances.

6. Clean the floor regularly and stay alert so as to see the first sign of invasion.

Jolly Roger – Pirate Fleece Blanket

Posted: 02 Aug 2011 06:32 AM PDT

No matter whether you are a boy or a girl, you certainly love pirate stories as a kid. All children fear and love pirates at the same time and dream about exploring deserted island and sailing on stormy seas on board an old ship that displays proudly a Jolly Roger flag. So if your kid is mad about pirates and you want to surprise him with some special gift that will add a plus of charm to its design, you should buy this funny pirate fleece blanket.

The blanket design is a very nice copy of the famous Jolly Roger, the pirates’ flag with black background and a skull over two crossed bones. Furthermore, one of the eye sockets of the skull is covered with a pirate patch which makes it funny instead of scary, at least for me. The blanket is very soft and comfy, as it is made of warm polar fleece and it will keep your kid warm and safe during the cold winter nights. Purchase it now for $18.95.

Steel and Glass Medicine Cabinet from Crate&Barrel

Posted: 02 Aug 2011 06:14 AM PDT

You need storage containers or cabinets all over the house, but my opinion is that you need them more in the bathroom and in the kitchen. Bathroom cabinets are among the most useful pieces of furniture and you can use them for storing all the small items that you need in the bathroom and even medicines. This is a safe place for medicines since it is out of the reach of children and they are usually mounted on the wall. This particular steel and glass medicine cabinet is very chic and stylish and yet it has a very simple and modern design. As the name of the article says it is made of steel and glass, having one square glass door and one fixed shelf inside.

The glass mirror is frosted and it confers it a special look and at the same time hides the things inside it. The outside and the inside of this square cabinet is made of some very shiny and modern stainless steel and the door has magnetic closure so as to shut when pushed with a gentle gesture and stay closed. Though apparently delicate, it can hold up to fifty pounds and you can easily clean it using a soft cloth. It is now available at Crate&Barrel fro $39.95.

KUB+ Coffee Table by Fabio Teixeira

Posted: 02 Aug 2011 05:13 AM PDT

There are several toys we all play with as kids and Rubik ‘ s cube is one of them. I remember having spent hours and hours trying to find the fastest way of solving this puzzle and I was simply fascinated by all the colourful facets of the cube that moved and changed their place only to have yet another colour puzzle. Well, this cube was the source of inspiration for Fabio Teixeira, a young Brazilian designer. He designed a very interesting coffee table that looks like an over-sized Rubik’ s cube. It is the KUB+ coffee table.

The coffee table is really colourful and, despite the first impression, is not glued together piece by piece. Actually the designer used a very interesting technique that uses wood dowel pins to stick all the pieces in one whole cube. The material of choice for this unusual table is plywood, a very modern and flexible material and the colourful facets are made of lacquered ink. This table is perfect as a coffee table, side table, living room decoration and you only need it to liven up the atmosphere in a gloomy room.
