Citriodora – a nature-inspired house in Anglesea, Australia Posted: 01 Aug 2011 10:10 AM PDT Australia is a great place, full of contrastive places and very beautiful natural sanctuaries. Citrodora is just one of the many houses that were built to celebrate nature's beauty. You might wonder if Citriodora actually means anything. It's a word that defines a species of plant that grows in that area and that is also known as lemon myrtle because of the beautiful smell it emanates. Citriodora is located in Anglesea, Australia and it's a modern house with an interesting design. As you can see, most of the living space is on the first floor. There there's the kitchen, the living room, the master bedroom, the study, the bathroom and the guest bedroom. There are a lot of rooms there if you ask me. It seems to be a well-though arrangement.
The downstairs area is more of a fun area. There's a TV, a pool table and other seating spaces there that are meant to entertain you. The first floor that is also the only one since there's not a second floor, was built in a way that allows the users to enjoy the incredibly beautiful views. On one side there's a large glass wall that basically allows you to admire the nature regardless of you position in the room. As for the location, the Citriodora house is placed right in the middle of nature. This provides privacy and beautiful views. It's a simple house that has been designed and decorated with elegance and style. The entire project was done by Seeley Architects and found on contemporist. |
Butterfly Box by Hiruto Matsuhita Posted: 01 Aug 2011 08:28 AM PDT Paintings are great to be displayed on the walls of your home, especially if they are painted in pastel colours in order to bring a drop of colour to your house. But you can also use some other decorations to embellish the walls and even the mantelpiece or, why not, the shelf of your bookcase or displayed on your living room shelf. One such decoration is the Butterfly box designed by the Japanese designer Hiruto Matsuhita who now lives in England.
The above mentioned designer has a personal and very interesting approach on art because it is working on paper art, craft and illustration. So he made this beautiful butterfly box out of paper, colour , glue and crafted everything and put the pieces together, so as to obtain something like a three-dimensional picture displayed on your wall. It is very delicate and nice and you can combine more such boxes if you place them one next to the other and use different colours for the box background. The thin cut-out layering shows shapes of butterflies and flowers appearing up front or in the background, creating a magical atmosphere. |
Canasta Circular Sofa from B&B Italia Posted: 01 Aug 2011 07:52 AM PDT The first thing you should know about this interesting sofa is that it is meant to stay outdoors. As you can see from the pictures, this sofa, as well as all the other ones in the Canasta collection from B&B Italia are made of a special material – woven patterns of Vienna straw. The sofa is round in shape , but it has a sturdy appearance and some modern features with all the woven materials and the holes in between. Canasta Circular Sofa from B&B Italia is designed by the famous designer Patricia Urquiola who managed to give it a unique design.
Of course the designer only thought of the part you can see on the outside, the hard part. But it is not comfortable to stay on, so it is completed with a huge sofa cushion and some smaller cushions that will offer you the comfort you need when sitting relaxed next to the pool or in the garden. You can visit the producer’ s web site for more information. |
Lilly Pulitzer® Laguna Hooked Wool Rug Posted: 01 Aug 2011 07:15 AM PDT Modern rugs have different shapes and colours and they look great, especially if they are meant to be placed in the kids’ room. So if you want a rug with some tidal hints and oceanic influences or if your kid is dying to have a marine bedroom then this rug will fit in perfectly, as it suggests laguna with shells , sea plants, coral reefs and star fish. The rug is made of wool, so it is pretty soft and fluffy being perfect for the kids who love soft things and also keeping their feet warm. But it does have a cotton canvas backing that makes the rug steady and resistant. It is handmade from pure wool and also has a very nice design. It is simple and pleasant, bringing a marine touch to the kids room, even if in a soft hue. If you like this Laguna Rug you can purchase it now for a reduced price of $148 instead of $298 – its original price. |
Funny Bookshelf That Looks Like a Tree Posted: 01 Aug 2011 06:08 AM PDT My opinion is that kids should have their own bookcase or bookshelf even when they are very young and can’t read, but still enjoy the pictures of the story books. SO why chase your kid’s favourite book all over the house when you can simply arrange a nice and funny bookshelf for all their books and you will know exactly where to find it? Here is a great idea for the design of some funny bookshelf that will look like a tree , which is perfect for the kids’ room. Unfortunately this bookshelf is not for sale, but you should try to do it yourself if you are pretty good with wood crafting.
The idea is to use a thick and big wood board as support for the shelves and to try to shape it like a tree trunk. Only after that attach the shelves that will have different sizes : larger around the base and smaller on the top. It should be better for you to build a steady base for the bookcase so as to avoid its collapsing over the kids, so try to make a stand with four “legs” and this will make the shelf resemble a tree even more. Last, but not least, after building and lacquering the furniture, go one step further and use the wooden pieces left for making some very funny animal shaped book supports that will have books in between them, just like the ones in the pictures. |
Posted: 01 Aug 2011 05:37 AM PDT Time seems to govern our life. Every moment of our life is measured in hours, minutes and seconds and every activity that we develop is done according to a certain program. So everybody needs to be careful the way we calculate all our actions and needs to have a clock in the house or a watch at the hand. If you are bored with your old image of your wall clock here it is an idea which might you help getting a new design. You will get a nice DIY Wall Clock. All you need is: an icky old clock screw driver, acrylic paint + brush, pen, scissors12″ x 12″ scrapbook paper (size varies depending on clock size).
Remove the battery and screws from the back of the clock. The back should pull away from the frame exposing the clock hands.Carefully examine your clock to determine how to remove the hands. Pay close attention to how you take everything apart; because you will have to put it back together! Paint the clock hands and set them aside to dry. If desired, paint the frame of the clock as well. Turn the 12 x 12 scrapbook paper face down and center the back of the clock on the paper. Trace around the clock back with a pen, and cut out the circle slightly smaller than the traced line. Trim the edges if necessary to make sure the paper circle fits inside the clock frame. Turn the paper circle face down and center the back piece of the clock on the paper. Trace the small center hole (where the clock hands connect to the clock back) on the paper and cut it out. Make as many patterned circles as you want—they can be tucked behind the displayed pattern so you can switch them out when you are in the mood for a change. Feel free to add numbers. Place your patterned papers on the clock face making sure the paper is right side up. Reassemble the clock hands and move them to the 12:00 position. (If you do not do this the time will never be exactly right. For example, it will say two and a half o'clock and never two o'clock!) Screw the clock back together, replace the battery, and step back to enjoy your handiwork! |
Hairy Babes – Funny Ceramics Plant Pots Posted: 01 Aug 2011 05:13 AM PDT I believe that plants make the house livelier and more colourful and bring life into it. I love having lots of plants and, even though I do love flower bouquets from the flower shop, I prefer flower pots because they last longer and do not fade away in a couple of days. And I also try to choose different pots for the plants in each room. And since I have a healthy sense of humour, I though it would be a good idea to look for some funny plant pots that would fit the kitchen and the kids room better than the traditional ones. And I found these very funny Hairy Babes designed by Namiko Murakoshi.
This British designer with Japanese origins is very creative and designed these funny planters made of ceramics with the purpose of making people smile when they see them. The planters look like round faces with different expressions on them: surprise, happiness, sadness, etc. They keep the flower or plant pot inside and when the leaves grow they look like funny heads with green hair. That’s why they are called Hairy Babes. Any way, you simply can’t help smiling when you see the funny face with round eyes, an expression of surprise on its face and tall green hair with a red flower on top. Check out all photos on the designer ‘s official web page. |

The Expression of Perfection by KB Design Posted: 01 Aug 2011 02:37 AM PDT There are houses that make us realize immediately the difference between an ordinary home and a distinguished one. It is the case of Armada House, located in Victoria, Canada, an ideal of perfection. The Canadian designer Keith Baker proved that perfection could be touched! It is everything a family could dream of: a stunning place, the best example of good use of space and materials at the same time. In spite of the many existent twists and curves, which could seem too much, the house is attractive with its modern exterior facade that makes us think more about a modern palace than an ordinary house. Both the outdoor and the indoor are fabulous, very nice and functional. Not only the building is inviting, but also the surrounding area provides the perfect environment for such a contemporary house, a model of practical and livable place, made of the highest quality materials. The wide glass windows offer great perspectives over the interior and the exterior, revealing the beauty of a dream house. If the surrounding area provides the perfect, the most modern place to spend your evenings or your free days in the company of your family and friends outdoors, the inside is the best example of elegance, simplicity and modernity you could think of.
The living room and the kitchen are tastefully furnished in a harmony of colors the wide- open space provides. Everything is perfect, from the floor, the split stairs, the amazing shower, to the decor, the curves and the flowers perfectly chosen. It is certainly an expression of perfection! |
