Urban washbasin by Roca

Posted: 29 Jul 2011 06:46 AM PDT

In case you were searching for an inspiration point as for how to decorate your bathroom, here's an idea. It's called Urban and it's a collection created by ROCA. Among other pieces, you'll find there an interesting washbasin. What's interesting about it is not the shape, the material sued or the size, but the fact that it features black and white images of four important cities.

The idea was interesting and even fun. However, unless you have some sort of close personal connection to one of these cities I can't see any reason why you would want to have something like this in your bathroom. You can choose from Barcelona, Berlin, New York and Shanghai. The images are representative and they try to set up a distinguished atmosphere. You could take the idea to the next level and design a themed bathroom that would represent a certain city or part of the world.

The Urban washbasin would also be a nice choice for public spaces, adding some spark to the plain designs. The more I look at the images the more they remind me of the small souvenirs that you can buy when you're visiting a foreign place. Of course, this would be a pretty big souvenir so it can't be integrated in that category. Still, they are a reminder of important cultural and symbolic places. However, it seems a little discriminating to choose only 4 cities.

Bathroom Corner Cabinet

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 11:18 PM PDT

Small bathrooms require some great deal of imagination and innovation to organize so as to store the necessary things in a minimum of space without having all stuck in corners and not being able to find them when you need them. A great  solution for that are bathroom shelves, but there are certain things you need to store in a bathroom that are rather intimate and cannot be displayed so as everyone can see them. For them you need one of these nice small bathroom corner cabinets. Here is a pretty one that is all painted in white , looking vintage and great.

This cabinet is made especially for the bathroom corner and fits it perfectly. That is why its shape is rather unusual. It has two shelves inside which provide three storage spaces inside and is all made of wood. The door of the cabinet is decorated with wooden grapevines on some glass background. It is small, but very useful and gives your bathroom a very special and personal touch. You can purchase it now for $98.99.

Modern Pret a Porter Sofa by Sergio Bicego

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 10:20 PM PDT

Pret a porter, originally prêt-à-porter, is a French term used mainly in the fashion industry. It has been used to designate the cloths produced in factories that comes in standardized sizes. The English equivalent would be ready-to-wear and it’s a complex term used with the same meaning and in the same domain. However, the meaning has expanded and the term has started to invade other domains, not necessarily related to the fashion industry. A simple example would be the sofa designed by Sergio Bicego that has been called Pret a porter.

There is a connection with the original meaning of the term since the sofa has standard dimensions and, more important than that, only comes in one color or, in this case, color combination. In terms of dimensions I do not have any specific information and all I can tell you is that it’s a two-seater and it has a medium size that makes it a great choice for all types of homes, regardless of the dimensions. The sofa is very cozy and soft and you’ll be pleased with the comfort level.

In term of design and color, it’s obvious from the beginning that the designer has tried to keep it as simple and he could creating a minimalist design. The lines and clear and simple and the overall design is quite neutral. This is yet another aspect that adds versatility to this piece. The sofa features a simple black and white combination arranged in contrastive stripes. The pattern reminds me of the harlequin. Overall, it’s a modern sofa, elegant and graceful. The design is simple and pleasing.{found on archiproducts}

Sapien Bookcase by Bruno Rainaldi

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 10:05 PM PDT

I remember the days when I was a college girl and I had to share my bedroom with three other girls my age. And I also remember our biggest problem was the lack of space as we never had enough space to store all the things we needed. So we came up with some very original and crazy ideas about how to save some space in a small room.Well, I think this Sapien Bookcase designed by the Italian Bruno Rainaldi solves the problem of book storing at least. This is a “tall” bookcase and it offers you the possibility to store books vertically and not horizontally like all the normal ones, so you can store up to 70 books and all this using just a corner of your room.

The bookcase or bookshelf as you might call it has a very strong and heavy metal base that confers stability to the whole construction and ten to fourteen shelves where you can deposit your books. It is very a simple yet bright idea and it makes you wonder how come you haven’t thought of it. It is available now for $198 (the shorter version) or $298 (the taller version).

Beautiful Seating Called Pebbles

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 09:51 PM PDT

Sometimes you get tired of sitting on the chair and try to find a less conventional but more interesting flat thing to rest your back on. If you are outdoors you will try a log or a large rock and even the grass. And since nature is the primary source of inspiration for all designers, it was for this unusual seating place , too. This is not a chair literally because it does not have any legs, but it looks more like an island that is used for sitting on. That i why it is called a seating island. Oh, and the name – “Pebbles” comes from its source of inspiration – the pebbles on the bottom of the river that are flat and rounded by water around the edges

This beautiful seating is made up of two parts, two upholstered “pebbles” that are placed on top of each other. The base one is larger, having about two meters in diameter and the other disc is considerably smaller. You can use the top disc as a second seating, as a back rest, arm rest or even as your work space if you want to use your laptop for example. The original design belongs to the guys from Claesson Koivisto Rune from Sweden.

Simple and Modern Coatrack Origami Style

Posted: 28 Jul 2011 08:52 PM PDT

Modern homes require modern looking accessories and pieces of furniture. So even if you see and like a very nice old-fashioned coat rack for example that looks like belonging to the eighteenth century, it will not fit your house and will look out of place. So choose a simple and modern coatrack, preferably made of metal which makes it both very resistant and sturdy, but also modern looking. This simple and modern coat rack origami style from Blu dot is perfect.

I compared it to an Origami exhibit because it looks as if someone has just taken a large steel sheet, folded it and then cut the racks and folded them Origami style. Any way, it is available in grey, red and white and it is very modern and nice, perfect for a modern hallway. It is large enough to hold the whole family winter coats and sturdy enough not to collapse if you have a furcoat hanging there. You can now purchase this item for $89.

My short question for you today is this: what do you call a combination between a rocking chair and a garden bench? Well, you are absolutely right: it’s the garden swing. I love garden swings and so do most people because they offer you an incredible sensation of comfort and safety. I think it is partly due to the swinging motion that reminds us of the time spent in our mother’s belly and I read it somewhere that this confers a sensation of security. Any way, it;s pleasant to sit in a nice large garden swing and enjoy a quiet morning reading a book or simply watching the kids play in the garden.

This beautiful garden swing is very sturdy and graceful at the same time and it has two seats for a comfortable stay.
