A simple guide to cleaning your HDTV screen

Posted: 20 Jul 2011 11:37 AM PDT

If you've ever made the mistake of trying to clean your lovely new HDTV with the same kind of cleaning products that you used to clean your older CRT screen, then you'll likely know that it can cause significant damage to the television. Whatever you do, don't use general polish or window cleaning products on your TV as the excess liquid will seep into your screen and create permanent defects.

Before you begin, it's worth consulting your television's manual to see if the manufacturer has any specific cleaning recommendations – but generally you'll be able to get the job done with a little common sense and dedication. Whether you've got an LCD TV , LED TV or plasma screen, the principle is the same; little and often is the way to go when it comes to cleaning your television. If you give your screen a quick dust over once a week then you won't go too far wrong; it's when you leave it for months on end that you'll encounter more stubborn marks – especially if you have children in the house.

Whichever of those two categories you fall into, you'll want to invest in at least one microfibre cloth, a product that is perfect for buffing up TV screens without causing the kind of abrasions that regular cloths or dusters have been known to be responsible for.If you do find that your HDTV has developed dirty marks that you're struggling to get rid of, it's time to invest in some specialist cleaning solution. There are many products on the market with a wide range of price tags attached, so be sure to do some research and get value for money.

If your TV is on, be sure to turn it off before you begin cleaning with any solution. Allow 10 minutes or so for the screen to cool down completely before you start the process. Dampen your microfibre cloth with your chosen cleaning solution ever-so-slightly – important: don't spray it directly onto the screen at any time – and begin cleaning the screen.

Light, circular motions tend to work well here; don't apply great pressure to the screen. If this part of the cleaning process leaves smudges on your TV then it's likely that you applied too much of the cleaning solution to your cloth. Once you've finished dusting the screen with your slightly dampened cloth, go over the screen again with a separate, dry microfibre cloth to finish up.

Follow these simple steps and your TV will continue to look brand spanking new, allowing you to enjoy all of your high definition content without the frustration of smudges and kids' handprints.

Modern Warehouse in San Francisco

Posted: 20 Jul 2011 11:00 AM PDT

If you think that a certain building cannot be transformed into something else without much success, you might discover that you were wrong. It is the case of the Warehouse Conversion, located in San Francisco, California. But if you take into consideration that it is designed and owned by the famous designer Steven Volpe, there is no wonder.

It is a building with brick walls, high ceilings and redwood columns with role of supports. There is an interesting contrast between the wooden walls and the rest of the space, offering a modern mood. Things are not complicated, on the contrary. For example, there are the bookshelves, which prove the owner’s interests, a big table with eight chairs, providing conditions for guests also.

But there are also certain elements that give an original tendency to the entire place; the lamp hanging from the ceiling above the table, a sofa, a modern armchair that seems to belong to a different period, some fluffy armchairs, a cube,  small tables with decorative objects,  large paintings that give a fresh air to the atmosphere with their simplicity.

The kitchen is very modern, the bedroom is simple and warm, but what is impressive, is the pleasant atmosphere and the open space given by the wide glass doors and windows. It is a singular place, which seems to belong to a different universe, a better one, where people appreciate beauty and style.Available at at $1.55 milion.

A Unique Raclette Grill

Posted: 20 Jul 2011 10:15 AM PDT

In a society in which health has become more and more threatened, food remains one of the factors that keeps us alive and helps us function normally. If we look around, we see people who eat whatever they can buy, without taking care of their health, without thinking that being fat does not mean being healthy, on the contrary.

So, what can we do? We must draw a warning and make the difference! There are so many home appliances that can help you cook without fat, that it is impossible not to succeed if you really want to. A good example in this respect is the raclette grill – Steba RC 3 Plus Chrome. It has an interesting design, with its natural stone plate that becomes hot in an instant. Why is it so good? Because you can cook all sorts of meat, vegetables, fish without fat.

Why is it different? Thanks to its turnable steel plate, thanks to the eight small enamelled pans scratch and puncture resistant and thanks to the fact that it can be washed safely. Its 26 cm surface is sufficient, no matter what you choose to cook. Another good part is the existence of the temperature selector, and on and off switch, which allows you to control everything. The raclette grill is definitely an intelligent choice which helps people eat healthy and tasty food!Available for £116.

Perfect Family House in Bellmund

Posted: 20 Jul 2011 09:45 AM PDT

In Bellmund, near Biel, Switzerland there are different types of houses, as everywhere in the world. The house I am referring to is a special house designed by EXH Design on 3,500 sqm. First, it is perfect for a family of not too many members. Its shape is very interesting, as the height is maximized, thing that ensures different perspectives over Lake Biennem.

The terrace space is cut from the volume of the roof and this is an original aspect that gives an air of modernity to the entire building. The structure of the house is a wooden structure, but in general, the entire place is an example of resistant materials that leave no place for worries in case of bad weather. If the exterior seems to be modest and functional, things are different with the interior, as the wooden structure offers the interior that feeling of warmth.

The entire mood of the house and of the surrounding environment is a pleasant one and it is impossible not to feel good here if you are the kind of person who likes simplicity, good taste, a warm and cozy atmosphere. There is an appropriate combination of tradition given by the wood  and of modernity, given by the shape of the building. The views of the lake Biennem connect the two contrasting aspects.

Incredible Invisible DIY Bookshelf

Posted: 20 Jul 2011 08:49 AM PDT

All along our life we have read many interesting books although they were action books, science- fiction books, romance books or history books, they  seemed to mark some moments of our life in a nice manner. When you had to read a good book you were really anxious to come home and sit comfortably in an armchair and start reading your favorite book. Sometimes, lost between the rows of ideas you were taking part involuntary at the action of the story near the characters of the book. An interesting book can make you lose the notion of time. Once you have finished them reading, all these books must be stored somewhere.

You can surprise your friends by presenting them this incredible invisible bookshelf. All you need is: a book, a good sized "L" bracket, a carpet knife, a pen, some small wood screws, some large wood screws, a tape measure or ruler, some glue and a stack of books for weight. If you get all these materials the only thing that remained are these instructions that you need to follow.

Measure the half way point, make a mark, set down your bracket, draw an outline, measure again, cut out a hole deep enough that the bracket will set flush. You are doing this to the back or bottom of the book, the part that will be visible in the finished product. Use your knife to make a notch for the “L” bracket so the book can sit flush against the wall…or at least place your small wood screws to secure the “L” bracket in place, and one on either side toward the edges of the book to secure the pages of the book together.

Hanging the bracket over the edge of a desk, chair, or counter is helpful. The pages will try to rise up the screw as you insert it, so make sure you’re putting some pressure on them to keep them in line. If this part is not done correctly the end result will show the pages as wavy and will tip off the viewer that something is amiss.

The glue will hold the bottom cover of the book in place, and the screws hold the pages together. Put the stack of books on top of the whole deal and wait overnight. Use a large wood screw to attach the whole mess to the wall. Find a stud first. Put some books on it to cover your handiwork. Make sure you put enough books to cover the bracket.{found on instructables.com}

Modern Architecture of WWF Headquarters by RAU Architects

Posted: 20 Jul 2011 08:02 AM PDT

Nowadays people have the tendency to create more modern buildings and eco- friendly as much as possible. If they combine all these ideas with that of recycling their job will become complete.

It is also the case of this fantastic modern building that RAU Architects transformed it into an office building for World Wildlife Fund. Actually this building was an old agricultural laboratory in the Schoonoord nature preserve near Utrecht. It was built in 1954 and now it became the Dutch WWF headquarters. The old building did not suffer a demolition but major renovations were brought so that it could become a self- sustaining building in terms of energy and which does not emit CO2.

There is a single large area which houses the entranceway, the reception area, exhibition spaces and a call centre. All these spaces are connected by a large steel and wood spiral staircase that takes you upstairs.

A bridge over a small pool of water seems to assure the access to the entrance of the building a thing which makes you think of those impressive fortresses where you could enter almost the same way.

The exterior walls of the building are made of brick while the interior walls are made of mud laced with bamboo stalks. The offices are located in the east and west side of the old building whose form remained untouched but its façade was completely renovated with transparent and opaque glass. The press and the conference centre are situated in the northern building block which rests on supports coated with chips of wood.

It is a building with an architectural structure that would impress any viewer and would satisfy any eco person too.

The Private Edge Residence

Posted: 20 Jul 2011 05:40 AM PDT

Edge House is definitely another type of house, one you would have never imagined. It is located in Kansai district, Osaka, Japan and it is one of the most original contemporary residences, on the edge made by Japanese studio Noriyoshi Morimura Architects. Made of concrete and glass, it is a building with a very strange shape, which makes you think it also has a complicated structure.

If the shape is strange, it does not mean that the result is not a successful one. No matter where you are, there must be a nice view in front of your eyes, either the landscape or the interior of the house. The form of the building gives the impression of a complicated construction, but the inside proves to be quite simple in its black and white tendencies, with wide glass windows, which seem to provide even more space and reveal the surrounding area, with elegant and modern furniture that proves good taste.

The two levels of the residence seem to be perfect, each of them creating a  pleasant atmosphere, thanks to the open space which makes you feel at ease, no matter you are with your family or all your friends, as there is enough place for everybody. The lighting is pleasant and creates a certain mood, relaxing and comfortable, the way any home should have.

Relaxing Seaside House by Hughes Umbanhowar Architects

Many years ago I had the chance to visit Sweden. It is a great country with wonderful people although it is said that the Nordic people are cold and distant. Its landscapes have charmed me. The beautiful views created by the North Sea and the rocky land overwhelmed all my expectations.

One of the things that have impressed me were the Swedish houses built near the shore of the sea, on the hard rocks with great huge windows which offered wonderful views of the sea. This relaxing Seaside house, designed by Hughes Umbanhowar Architects reminds of all these beautiful memories. They designed a great house dominated by the purity and refreshing white color that cover its exterior and interior too. Another dominant aspect of this building is the huge floor to ceiling windows that increase the amount of natural light inside and offers you splendid views of the sea and the Jordan Island where it is located.

Its terrace will offer you wonderful moments of relaxation and privacy while its interior stairs gives you the feeling that you are living on a real boat.

The swimming pool located on the upper side of the house, above the kitchen represents an attraction point. You can watch your life partner swimming while you are cooking a delicious meal in the kitchen.

The modern white furniture and the paintings on the walls and the decorative objects match perfectly with this seaside environment.

Inspiring White Interior Home

A house that makes you realize what you want in life, what kind of home you want is a great house.   Do you want a similar place or something else? What exactly you would change about it? The house in the pictures is among the types of houses that help you decide what is best for you.

Why? Because it is a contemporary home and because it has everything you could dream to have. It is simple and modern in its whiteness. This whiteness of the walls gives that unmistakable feeling of so appreciated wide space.  At the same time, the combination of black and white gives the place an elegant air that makes you feel good. In a white atmosphere, the black pieces of furniture, the stairs and the grey shades keep everything in the same tone.

The glass has a blue reflex that offers a special note to the entire environment. There is also that feeling of a open wide space that seems to broaden the entire surface and that makes you dream, appreciate the good part of life and feel comfortable. Among the elements that animate this home, there is the fireplace, which seems to have a different story every time, the statue that protects everything around, the decorative elements, the plants and flowers that give color and animate every room. It is definitely an inspiring home!{pictures from lagerlings.se}
