Concrete Lego blocs by Studio 1015′s Etsy store

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 11:04 AM PDT

Lego is fun and not just for kids. Even adults enjoy building structure out of Lego pieces. It's a relaxing activity and a way to exercise their creativity and skills. Those who enjoyed playing with Lego pieces when they were kids and remained fans of this activity will probably also enjoy the new creation of Studio 1015′s Etsy store.

It's a combination of concrete bricks and Lego pieces. Each brick measures approximately: 1 5/8″L x 3/4″W x 1/2″H. The concrete Lego pieces can be purchase in sets of 6 and they cost *8.50. Because of the characteristics of the material, each piece is unique and has variations in terms of color, texture and even shape. The interlocking concrete bricks were hand cast to resemble a standard 2×4 LEGO building block. The resemblance is very close and they will remind anyone who's ever played with Lego pieces about the fun childhood times.

These concrete Lego bricks have no real use inside or outside the house. They are just fun pieces that can be used for decorative purposes. They would make a nice gift for an architect for example or for any Lego fan. You can even try to build different things with them but you won't be as successful as with actual Lego pieces. Since they weren't designed with an actual purpose, you can use your imagination to create one.

A Luxury Allegra Property in Australia

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 10:23 AM PDT

Allegra Property located in Australia is definitely the type of property that can be characterized in one word: luxurious.The entire design was done by TCL Homes. It is not only luxurious, but also a prestigious waterfront home that delights not only the eye, but also the soul, thanks to the magnificent scenery of the Island’s waterways. It is that kind of house, which makes you realize that man can do perfect things in a perfect environment. As it can be seen at a first glance, it is a concrete contemporary home, which has everything your mind could think of.

The lighting was strategically placed in order to illuminate the entire design; at night, the lighting transforms this apace into a magical one. The basement garage has places for many cares.  The house’s entrance foyer delights even the most critical eyes, the wide glass windows and doors are perfect to reveal both the beauty of the surrounding area and the luxury of the interior.

The kitchen seems to be an art expression with the highest standards, the staircase is broad and the three chandeliers are the splash which attracts the view; the same happens with the large open plan dining room, which is inviting in its modernity. The entire environment is the perfect combination of  aesthetic details, quality, finesse, style. This is certainly a modern masterpiece, the perfect proof that dreams can come true!

Cute DIY Birdhouse

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 09:59 AM PDT

It is a wonderful thing to have the feeling of being free like the bird in the sky and when this sensation of freedom combines with the flavor of the coffee that you have in the morning, life seems more beautiful.

But even the bird of the sky needs a shelter although it seems to be the host of the blue sky. You can help it and create a birdhouse which might be very useful for the birds of the sky. This might also represent an interesting project for kids too.The creation of this birdhouse is also an educational project for all types of ages. It presupposes to recycle the coffee cans that you do not need them anymore and use some pieces of wood.

Here it is a list of the exact materials that you need in order to be able to build this cute birdhouse: two scraps of ¾ inch – thick pine board, measuring at least 4- ½ inch square, two ¼ – inch thick plywood or paneling scraps, measuring at least 6 inches x 9 inches each ¼ inch dowel, 8- ½ inches long, 1- ¼ inch finishing nails, one 11- ounce coffee can, hooks, wire or a chain for hanging the birdhouse. Now all you can do it is to prepare yourself a coffee and be ready to follow these instructions:

  1. Cut the ends of the birdhouse 4-1/2 inches square from scrap pine boards.
  2. Locate the entrance hole in one board by measuring 3-7/16 inches from one corner. (When measuring, place your ruler diagonally from corner to corner and draw a light pencil line.) Be sure to mark the corner from which you’re measuring—you’ll need to measure from it again in step 4.
  3. Drill a 1-inch entrance hole for wrens or the appropriate-size hole for other small birds you’d like to attract.
  4. Hold the front and back pieces together in a vise or clamp them together. Locate the perch by measuring 1-1/4 inches from the same corner used in step 2 and mark this spot on the pencil line. Then drill a 1/4-inch hole through the front piece (with the entrance hole) and most of the way through the back.
  5. Cut the roof pieces from 1/4-inch plywood or paneling scraps. Cut one piece to measure 5-3/4 inches x 9 inches, and the other 6 inches x 9 inches.
  6. Nail the roof pieces to the front and back boards with 1-1/4-inch finishing nails. The large roof piece should overlap the smaller at the peak. (If you’re using paneling, the back side should face out.) Leave enough room between the front and back pieces so you can easily insert the coffee can.
  7. Clean and dry the coffee can (watch out for sharp edges). Drill two 1/4-inch holes in one side of the can for drainage. Drill two more 1/4-inch holes on the opposite side of the can for ventilation.
  8. Place the coffee can between the front and back boards. Cut a 1/4-inch dowel to 8-1/2 inches long and insert it through the perch holes. If the fit is too snug, lightly sand the dowel, which holds the can in place.
  9. Attach a chain, hooks or wire for hanging the birdhouse.

In case you need more coffee cans, you can sit a basket in your yard and ask your neighbors to deposit their coffee cans there. It is a project that means a cleaner environment, use of low costs and fun!{found on birdsandblooms.com}

Poppies Red Bedding by Revelle

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 06:53 AM PDT

When I come home after a very busy day at work I enjoy lying in bed and just resting. So it’s very important for me to have some comfortable and cooling bedding that will allow me the perfect rest and some quality time. So I always purchase cotton bedding because I think this kind of fabric is cooling and refreshing, absorbing the body sweat and perfect for these hot nights in the city. It does not stick to your body and is also soft and nice to touch. But I also like to see some nice patterns on the bedding to make me happy and smiling. That is why I always choose flowers. And this red poppied pattern is totally charming.

This Poppies red bedding set by Revelle is the perfect combination of red and white, of comfort and good taste. It is machine washable and available in queen size or king size and you can also choose the items you want to be three or four or just the duvet set or the comforter or any other combination at your choice. Make your choice now at Bedding&Bath.

Rainbow Shower Head

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 06:32 AM PDT

I technically know the rainbow is a perfectly normal and natural optical phenomenon caused by the reflection of white light in the water drops and then its splitting in the seven colours that are its components, but I am still amazed when seeing a rainbow in the sky. It’s sort of magical and beautiful, pleasing the eyes. So I was very happy when I found this unusual and interesting rainbow shower head for sale on Amazon.

This shower head is a totally usual one, except the fact that it has some nice and colourful LEDs incorporated and these LEDs are lit one by one every few seconds, casting a different colour light every time. The cycle repeats automatically and the LEDs are powered by the water pressure when you have a shower, so you do not need any batteries to make this work. You simply replace the present shower head with this one and enjoy a colourful shower and the experience of chromatherapy.Oh, one last thing: you can buy one for just $29.

Magnetic Vase

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 06:01 AM PDT

I love flowers and I like having them around all year long either in flower pots or flowers vases. But this can be a very daring thing when you have two small children around the house because they can’t stop playing and this leads to all sorts of home accidents where the victims are usually breakable things in the house like plates and vases. So I was looking for some sort of safe vase that looks nice and can’t be easily distroyed. And I found these very interesting magnetic vases.

Well, even though it may look incredible the vase actually works on the very simple magnetic principle: there is a magnet at the bottom of the vase and you have to place a meal plate under the table cloth. This will secure the vase to the table and you can even do some magic tricks with the vase by turning a small table upside down and proving the vase does not fall. (Well the magic will be to bolt the metal plate to the table and have an empty vase, of course). However, the vase is pretty small and you can oly put a flower in it and the purchasing price is good enough – $49.99.

Interior Design of a Swedish Waterfront Home

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 12:58 AM PDT

Anyone would like to see the design of a designer’s interior house, especially when the designer  is as famous as Marie Olsson Nylander is. She owns a great residence, that kind of house where everything breathes relaxation and the serenity of family life. The villa is located in Arild, Sweden and is a mixture of tradition and modernity, a personalized space where every object seems to have its own story.

The owner has a passion for aged objects and this can be seen everywhere, but especially in the timeless pieces of furniture and surrounding decorations. The entire atmosphere is cheerful and this gives the house a comfortable and unique mood. The walls are blank canvases for these interior decorations and furnishings and contribute to the new air, the new life this home has.

The existence of many windows gives the impression of a wider space and draws natural light in. An old circular staircase connects the two floors and is part of the traditional character. However, one of the most attractive aspects is the view from the upstairs living room onto the sea. Colorful objects are the ones that animate the atmosphere and add a personal mark to the entire environment; they also remind of old times and make you think about typical apartments in Paris. It is certainly a dream place!{found on mixr}

Colorful DIY Oriental Side Table

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 12:19 AM PDT

Summer is the season that makes us think of those exotic places like the luxuriant oases in the middle of the hot and arid deserts or the oriental buildings of the Arabic sheiks that impress us with their oriental and extraordinary design.

This colorful DIY Oriental Side Table will remind you of all these exotic images and will create the same ambiance in your apartment.The extraordinary thing is that you can create it yourself without too much trouble. All you need is: a sheet of 8 mm plywood, some metal legs, the print of the East mosaic tiles, PVA glue, decoupage varnish, a drill, an electric jigsaw, yellow and purple acrylic paint, a white paint spray and a brush. These are all the materials and tools that you need so that you can do a real good job.

Now you are ready to start so mark out the sheet of plywood and sawn it. You will get four squares with 40 cm sides and with 50cm side. Then you make some holes in the metal legs for screws by using the drill and paint these legs in white. Use the tile prints to paint two 40 cm plywood sheets in yellow and purple and two other 40 cm sheet to paint them in yellow.

The base of the table can be made by connecting four plywood sheets and four legs with screws. The remaining sheet of plywood paint in red and cover with decoupage glue. Then place it on the base and nail to it.

Now your space will get more color and will get an exotic touch. You already can smell the flavor of an oriental coffee that will be expecting you on this wonderful table as it can be used as a coffee table too.{found on wday}

The Pup Tent

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 11:06 PM PDT

It all started with an invitation from Design Trust for Public Space, a not-for-profit organization committed to improving New York City's parks, plazas, streets, and public buildings. to contribute a piece for their Annual Auction. After considering all the facts, Slade Architecture has decided to create a more unusual piece called The Pup Tent. That's because it looks like a tent and it has been designed for a puppy.

The request was for them to design a nest, a shelter for a living creature. The piece also had to fit in a taxi so that the buyers could take it home the same day. It all makes sense now when you look at it. The Pup Tent is a modern indoor dog lounge. It's been created out of water-jet cut plywood pieces that were laminated together to create a conical shape. The exterior surface was sanded smooth concealing the individual layers of plywood and revealing the tectonic surface pattern of the planar plies intersecting the conical geometry.

The interior preserves the original look, giving you the opportunity to see the plywood layers and the construction of this piece.The Pup Tent is very modern and interesting but it's also very comfortable for the actual user. It provides passive cooling and lighting. The opening at the top allows facilitates air circulation. The buyer's puppy must a very lucky creature.

Tepanyaki Grill Table by Troy Adams Design

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 02:58 PM PDT

It's very difficult to find pieces that can be used both indoors and outdoor. Most of them are designed for a particular area of the house. For example, the dining table is usually placed in the kitchen, unless you have a different room of the house destined just for that. However, you need to have to different tables if you plan on eating outside.

It's no longer the case. Troy Adams Design has created a very versatile and extremely functional table. It's not just any table. It's actually a combination of a grill and a dining table. A built-in stainless steel grill sits at the center of a black granite tabletop, which can be custom-made in any material and size. It's a piece destined for entertainment and feeding a crowd. To me it seems a little uncomfortable to use that grill in the middle, but since they say the design can be adjusted and customized, I guess you can move it somewhere else.

The grill cooktop uses infrared heat that does away with smoke, making it ideal for indoor and outdoor use, while a downdraft ventilator draws any smoke particles, grease and cooking odors out of the air. It's a great combination, extremely functional and versatile. The Tepanyaki Grill Table successfully combined a traditional cooking method with the simplicity of modern designs. The result is very satisfying.
