| Ann Grim’s “Close and Personal” coffee table Posted: 14 Jul 2011 10:13 AM PDT Recently a very unusual coffee table has been added to the long list of furniture pieces from this category. This one has been designed by ANN GRIM Furniture and has a very distinctive design. In this case, the most unusual element is the design itself and, of course, the shape. This "Close & Personal" coffee table has a very simple shape, except for the strange structure designed to replace the legs from one side. It's a combination of simple and sophisticated, all in one piece. The asymmetry makes this piece of furniture look unique and it gives a modern flare to the overall design making it look more appealing and more interesting. On one side the table has two legs placed in the corners. Nothing special there. However, we can't say the same thing about the other side. There, a very unusual spiral structure is meant to replace the legs. The spiral is made of several little square pieces.
It's a modern interpretation of the classic coffee table. It's a piece that has the right amount of interesting and exciting that makes it versatile and appropriate for several different interior designs. It would look great in a modern living room but also in a public space, office, waiting room etc. It has what it takes to be able to transform a room from quiet and simple into stylish and elegant. |
| House With Turquoise Color Accents Posted: 14 Jul 2011 09:00 AM PDT This house is undoubtedly out of the ordinary and unique from others as it features a unique color combination. The owner of the house has creatively chosen the beautiful summery turquoise color on neutral and white color base to design refreshing and bright interiors. Yes, you are right, the house features an elegant yet contemporary color combination of white and turquoise.
The basic color base of the house has been selected as neutral white. The walls, ceilings, windows, doors, furniture pieces, few lighting fixtures, counter tops and even cabinets don the white color. Traditional wooden material has been selected as the flooring option so that the white color theme does not get disturbed.

| Camouflaged House in Caledon by Ian MacDonald Architect Posted: 14 Jul 2011 06:14 AM PDT Sometimes we feel so tired of all that surrounds us and we have the feeling that everybody becomes annoying. We try to escape all these stressful things and search for a hiding and peaceful place where we can recharge our batteries again and find our inner peace. It should be a quiet, warm and comfortable place.
Maybe Ian MacDonald Architect has a solution. It designed a camouflaged house in Caledon, Ontario, Canada. It is a strange shaped building which looks more like a military, spy base.It is built at the level of the ground, with a grass, covered roof. It is situated near a lake which will offer you wonderful, relaxing views and its interior design is based on simplicity, practicality and comfort.
The outdoor furniture is simple and it is used the neutral grey color. The glass walls will provide more natural light inside and will amplify the idea of space and light. |
| Contemporary Bedroom Furniture Posted: 14 Jul 2011 05:56 AM PDT The bedroom is one place of our house where most of us spend our maximum time. It is like a personal sanctuary from where we start and end our day. Therefore, it is very vital that the room provides a relaxing environment and reflects the personal style. Your preference of style and design and your budget are fundamental concepts and should be considered when designing the bedroom.
If you are looking forward to a streamlined, clean and contemporary look then you should consider introducing contemporary bedroom furniture in the room. Contemporary bedroom furniture is all about simplicity and minimalism. When one thinks of contemporary bedroom furniture, the first thing that comes to mind is luxury bedroom furniture pieces such as leather covered beds, curved dressers and geometric shelves. Well, let me tell the essence of contemporary bedroom furniture is to introduce furniture pieces with simple and clean lines and keep the area uncluttered.
Dressers and chest – Once you are done with the contemporary bed, try introducing a rounded wooden chest of drawers that appears like a tower. Alternatively, you may also select an oval shaped dresser. You will be delighted to know that these furniture pieces are extremely cheap. You can find dozens of these cheap modern bedroom furniture pieces on online websites for attractive deals.
Seating Space – if there is free space, you can create an impressive seating area by placing a small coffee table along with low lying sofas or couches. Leather ottomans may also be selected.
Accessories – Every bedroom is incomplete until you introduce accessories in the room. However, in case of the contemporary bedroom, accessories have to be very minimal because clutter is the enemy of a contemporary design bedroom. While accessorizing the bedroom featuring contemporary design, look for different shape accent pieces in varied colors. Few examples of accessories that complement contemporary bedroom furniture are irregular shaped rugs, textured pillows, wild wooden clocks, arty vases of different shapes and sizes. |
| It’s all about being eco-friendly Posted: 14 Jul 2011 05:00 AM PDT The more high-tech modern living gets, the further we move from natural habitats, the greater is our desire to bring nature indoors with us. First our cities expanded horizontally, pushing the fields and forests further and further away from urban living, and then the houses and green resources shrunk leading to smaller gardens and much smaller community parks and open greens. The next step of course was vertical, as people climbed into elevators to head towards the heavens.
As artificiality crept intro every facet of modern living, from the genetically modified crops we consume to the processed foods on supermarket shelves. Artificial wood floors and synthetic brocade curtains, modern living has also tried to bring nature indoors, into walls inspired by mature.
A very common theme, for a toddler's room for example is a wall painted to look like a green field with a white fence with brightly colored insects cuddly bunnies and impossible looking sheep. As the toddler grows to adolescence the theme changes but the inspiration remains the same. Inspired by nature, two walls could be leaf green with brightly colored butterflies and beetles to liven it up. Living rooms use brown wood panels that maybe synthetic but transport a tree flattened to create a wall inside the room. Even offices are now using huge picture postcard like scenes of a landscape in autumn or a view of a forest as a backdrop for a room by making it into an entire wall. These walls inspired by nature can become the focal point around which the entire room can revolve or they can just blend into the background silently happy to create a sense of serenity and relaxation.
Different wall treatments are available depending upon budget and use so a kitchen wall can have two rows of tiles depicting brightly colored fruit and vegetables. Bathrooms can have aqua-colored tiles with surreal fish forming patterns on them.
Walls inspired by nature can be created by using jungle printed drapes, sea green blinds and a carpet dappled like a forest floor. Sometimes, in some extremely rare cases an innovative owner finds a like-minded architect and has the means to afford using an actual piece of nature such as an old tree or a boulder as a feature of the room by building a wall such that the tree forms part of it. Of course the fusion of the innovative client, a like-minded architect and the means to build the house of ones dreams instead of occupying a ready made flat, is very rare.{pics from decorati} |
| Modern furniture collection from The Home Key Posted: 14 Jul 2011 03:34 AM PDT Even though this collection dates back to 2009, it still has a very modern look that is surprisingly difficult to find. Designed and created by The Home Key, this furniture collection would look beautiful in any modern or contemporary home. It features straight vertical lines and geometrical shapes and forms that really make each piece stand out.
In a modern or contemporary home, any one of these pieces of furniture would integrate perfectly. You can take home the whole collection or you can just select the pieces you like best or those you need the most. This particular furniture collection proves that, even though something has been designed several years ago, it can still look modern to those who see it. Style and elegance are timeless concepts. |

| A modern planter for you and a comfy house for your pet Posted: 14 Jul 2011 02:23 AM PDT If you like plants and you also like pets, there's no reason you can't have them both. They both take space, but thanks to the ingenious creation from Jardin Chic, now they can both live happily in the same building. These pieces are actually a combination if a planter on top and a pet house inside.
Made of durable plastic, these structures are great planters and they double as pet houses. You can have them both without sacrificing any space. One characteristic is always constant: the planter stays on top. Underneath the pieces presents plenty of space for small animals like cats and small dogs but also for birds. That's why this ingenious structure is great for both indoor and outdoor use. The design is simple and modern and it manages to make 2 species very happy.
Of course, you might want to think a little before choosing the inhabitants that will share this structure. You have to be careful because some cats like to chew grass and other similar plants and so do birds. Also, you might want to choose plants that don't require a lot of attention or special conditions. Overall, this is a very creative design and a very functional structure. Your pet will have a green home and your plants will feel less lonely. It's a great combination. |
| Posted: 14 Jul 2011 01:11 AM PDT If you like simple designs and you enjoy minimalist pieces, this doesn't make you a simple or plain person, it just means you have great taste. Nowadays a lot of people turn their attention to more simple designs, where less is more and where additional accessories or decorations would just take away the quiet beauty of the piece.
A very good example is the Movado Clock. Featuring an extremely simple design, the clock presents a black structure with a black background with 3 metal hands and a dot replacing the "12". The dot is actually the only decoration, if it can be called like that. The lack of numbers or other replacements of these ones might make it a little more difficult to tell time. After a while you'll get used to it. However, this clock might not be the best choice for those who need to be very punctual at work and for whom any minute or second matters. The Movado clock is made of PVC. It's a very resistant and durable piece. It also has Silverstone metal hands. Furthermore, the clock comes with a stainless steel case that you can use when you're traveling and you want your clock to come with you. The clock's dimensions are 2.75″ x 2″ x 2.9″. It requires an LR44 battery that is included and it’s available for 67.79 euros. |
