Small Kitchen on Budget but Big on Style

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 10:06 AM PDT

Are you looking for few kitchen interior designing tips that are big on style? Do you want the tips to be inexpensive so that you create an impact without breaking your piggy bank? Well, if this is the case, then you would be pleased to know that there are oodles of ways to decorate a small kitchen on a strict budget but big on style.

As you are looking for budgeted options that are big on style, begin with the basic, which is painting. Employ a neutral color such as white, off white, cream or ivory along with few accent colors such as orange, fuchsia, green or orange to paint the walls of the kitchen to transform the walls of the room.

Try to create at least one focal point for the room. A colorful backsplash area, utensil rack, stylish shelves or glass cabinet doors are few options that won't cost you a fortune and at the same time, allow you to add exquisite accents to the room.

Kitchen cabinets are the heart of the kitchen. Proper stylish cabinets installed in the kitchen are known to create an impressive statement. If you are unable to purchase new cabinets, consider revitalizing the old ones. Consider changing the color of the cabinets and installing new hardware pieces. Alternatively, you may also opt for open shelves and cabinets. With open cabinets, the room will appear brighter as light will be allowed to travel freely.

Introducing quality lighting fixtures to the room does not involve a big investment and will allow you to spice up the décor. Your best bet would be finding fixtures that cater to numerous functions, such as task lighting and overall lighting. A monorail track system is a popular choice.

Consider building or buying a breakfast bar for the kitchen. Besides providing a space for informal dining, breakfast bar would add a lot of depth to the kitchen while they enhance the storage capacity and work area.

To make the kitchen stylish, you may consider placing few home plants in and around the kitchen. Buy easy to maintain houseplants and place them in earthen pots. You may also choose to grow various types of herbs such as basil, bay leaves, thyme, etc. Paint the earthen pots in colorful patterns and designs to create your unique personalized pots.{first pic from faiella-design.com}

Venice House in California

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 07:13 AM PDT

Venice House is located in California, U.S.A. and it is a very good example of  main and guesthouse at the same time. It is appropriate for an entire family, but not only, friends can come to stay over anytime, as they have where to sleep. The main house has an original air, while the studio apartment above the garage is modern and refreshing. The entire architecture was designed by Daly Genik Architects.

What is impressive is the organization of the interior spaces in the apartment; there is a permanent impression of open space, aspect that provides a comfortable atmosphere,  the wide glass windows underline this idea of a large place and offer beautiful perspectives over the landscape.

The furniture pieces are simple and modern; the colors of the rooms are warm and pleasant and make you feel at ease. The shape of the house is interesting and makes you think about geometric figures. The kitchen is modern also and provides a nice view over the green and relaxing courtyard, but actually the outside area seems to belong to another world, one in which trees, plants and grass are in charge.

Among the most appealing aspects, there are the open space that the interior provides and the nice perspectives over the landscape the windows offer, even when sitting at the table. Can you require more than this?

Of course, there are also other pieces and designs that were creation with the same purpose, and none of them compares to this collection.

All three lamps share the same principles and structure. They're made of a steady steel structure at the base that helps keep the lamp in place. Then, the middle part in made of natural birch wood and it has a shape resembling a tree or a miniature version of it. The top is a very simple and elegant white lampshade that makes everything look chic and even sophisticated.

The lamps have different sizes. There's one that measures 122 cm in height, another one with 156 cm and the tallest one, measuring 187 cm in height. They are a great way of including nature in the interior design. The lamps are a combination of natural and modern elements that work together to form an equilibrated piece. Touch faucet with LED lights

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 06:59 AM PDT

Nowadays people seem to be more and more concerned with the way their home looks like. They try to make it look as modern as they can. However, even though the furniture and the decorations are modern, sometimes people forget about basic stuff like the faucet for example.

It's true that most faucets look and even act the same. Still, there are some very interesting models that will help your kitchen or bathroom be at the same level with the rest of the house in terms of technological improvements. USO is a semi-automatic faucet designed by KWC. It has a very simple design and it's made entirely of stainless steel so you don't have to worry about its durability or safety.

The faucet features a minimum-contact sensor. The built-in LED lights will help you tell the temperature of the water using color-coding. All you have to do is tap once for cold water (blue), twice for warm water (orange) and three times for hot water (red). The faucet will stop automatically after 10 second but if you want to stop it before that all you have to do is tap one more time. The faucet also features a cleaning mode.

Touch the spout for 5 second and you'll activate it for 45 seconds. There's no need of water for this process. If you want to stop it before the 45 sec run out, just touch it again for 5 seconds. USO is a modern, simple and very useful piece that will definitely complement any kitchen or bathroom.

Wooden wall system by Morten Georgsen

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 06:11 AM PDT

Designed by Morten Georgsen, this wall unit is just one of many other modern and functional pieces of furniture coming fro the same designer. Lecoo is a a very flexible system that offers several storage shelves featuring different lengths and dimensions.

Lecco is available in white lacquer, walnut veneer and black-stained oak veneer. Fronts are also available in yellow ochre and dusty grey lacquer. Because it has so many shelves, it will definitely help you keep the room clean and organized. I'm not sure if those 4 large squares are hidden storage units, in case there are some items you don't want everyone to see, or if they're just for the decor. I hope it's the fist version because otherwise it would just be a waste of perfectly usable space. The dimensions of this impressive wall unit are H90½xW102¼xD16¼”. The model in the picture has a walnut veneer finish.

Lecco is a very functional and practical piece of furniture. It allows you to better organize your space. Also, because it its neutral and quiet look, it would make a great addition to any living room or even bedroom. It could also make a pretty good bookcase, among other things. The shelves provide plenty of storage space for all your decorations, books, CDs, DVDs, collectibles or other items.Available for 4595$.

Hand carved Parat mirror

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 04:56 AM PDT

Inspired by the traditional Indian bowl called parat, these mirrors bring a new dimension to these historic elements. The parat is originally a big size round shaped utensil with side walls in which dough is kneaded. However, as we see now, this not its only use anymore. The Parat mirrors are a very simple but very elegant collection that would complement a lot of different interiors.

Hand carved of solid wood, the mirrors come in three different sizes that vary from 12'' to 14''diameter. Because they are hand crafted, each mirror has individual characteristics that make it unique. Also, the mirrors have a very beautiful antique look and they present individuals marks of use and history. The collection features three mirrors but they are sold individually. Each one can be purchased for EUR 57.81. The quantities are limited.

The Parat mirror is a great accessory that would add an antique flavor to any interior. They have a very simple design, which makes them versatile and allows them to look equally beautiful wherever the user might choose to place them. You can purchase only one or you can buy several mirrors and create an original combination on your wall. They are easy to hang and easy to clean. Even though their antique look doesn't allow them to be included in houses that have a more modern or contemporary design, they are still a very precious accessory.

Interactive coffee machine

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 02:58 AM PDT

Coffee drinkers know how important it is to have a cup of coffee in the morning. It makes you complete and it helps you start the day in a good mood. However, the process of making the coffee is not that attractive. That's why people constantly try to eliminate this part by building all sorts of machines that do the work for us.

One of them is this automatic coffee machine from Douwe Egberts. It has an interactive touch screen and all you have to do is to drag and drop the ingredients into the cup and voila, your coffee is ready. It also has a function that allows you to jump to earn your coffee. It's a little unusual but it's more fun and it helps you wake up quicker. You can choose any type of coffee you want and it even has caramel and hazelnut flavors. Also, thanks to the internet function, it allows you to check the stock market and share prices, real-time traffic reports, weather forecasts and updated news on the fly.

So, as you can see, it's more to the coffee than you think. Start your day with a delicious cup of coffee that you don't even have to make by yourself. It's not laziness, it's called saving-time and being practical.

Designs around windows

Posted: 13 Jul 2011 02:04 AM PDT

Like everything else in life, buildings also have undergone a change over time. New technologies have made ideas that must have seemed impossible not only a possibility but a reality.Who could have thought a hundred years ago that a hundred storey buildings could be the new reality?

Along with the hundred storey buildings have come other materials, such as, steel and plastic doors and windows, floor treatments, wall treatments, more and more lighting options. Speaking of lighting, one of the marvels of modern day invention is the toughened glass that makes it possible to have vast expanses of the glass as an option to windows. The ubiquitous French windows of the late 18th and early 20th century have now reached to being walls of glass.

Yes, modern living, as an integral part uses windows that are also walls. Smooth sheets and transparent or translucent material that stretch from floor to ceiling and column to column, from one end of a room to another, providing light, expansiveness and a sense of luxury to what would perhaps be another ordinary room on the 25th floor.

With walls that are windows, ones room expands to encompass the sky. The higher you go, the more panoramic is the view. Even though the glass is sealed and airtight from all sides a window that is a wall makes a room feel airy. It is certainly a recipe to light your spirits.

These wall windows, or windows which are wall substitutes have brought with them the fashion of linear modern furniture, preferably chrome and leather, large boxy sofas which are long and rectilinear, into which you can sink. Consol tables with straight lines very often in chrome and glass, brightly colored cushions and a carpet lend pep and zing to the room. You will find rooms like this in almost every lifestyle magazine. They are sparsely furnished and easy to decorate, because the object d'art can be large in size but few in number. The window wall becomes the central feature of the room with everything radiating to and from it even while furnishing and decorating the room, attention has to be paid to its location. Without that attention to detail, the room would look a mess.

Having said all this, window walls have their downsides too, depending upon the quality of glass used your wall could very well end up having scratches. Replacing such a large chunk of glass can be an expensive business.{pics from decorati}
