Doll – Synaesthesia and beauty Posted: 10 Jul 2011 08:47 AM PDT You're about to admire a 250sqm project located in Allariz, Galicia, Spain and created by Oglo in 2011. The idea was to create a space where people can leave behind their personal life, forget about all their problems and relax, enjoy the beauty of the nature, admire the flowers and their enchanting smell and color. The project is rather abstract. It doesn't have a defined shape. There a central structure with a colorful sculpture resembling an umbrella, placed inside a round space, like a pool. Inside this "pool" there are several places where people can seat down, relax for a while before continuing their relaxing walk. They can walk one by one or in pairs of two in a sort of labyrinth surrounded by a very large number of different flower species. The colors and their beautiful smell are amazing. It's a great place where people can go to relax, enjoy a calm walk, alone or with a partner or some friends, admire the beautiful flowers and get rid of some stress.
This project is a sort of park taken to another level. It's a modern adaptation that attracts people with its vibrant colors. It's a great place to spend some time in the week-ends, getting away from the busy streets and clearing your head before another week starts.{found on archdaily} |
Unique Bathtub-sink combination Posted: 10 Jul 2011 08:03 AM PDT Even though this combinations seems odd, it’s actually not very strange. The more you think about it, the more it starts to make sense. Every bathroom needs a bathtub and a sink, so why not combine the two? There are situations when you need the both anyway.
For those who love comfort and who own spacious bathrooms, this combo could very well be the best choice. In terms of design it’s relatively simple but also stylish and modern. You can use the idea and also search for other combinations, like maybe a toilet with drawers or storage space. It might actually be easier to find that this piece. The bathtub-sink is a really unique combination and a very interesting piece for any bathroom. |
The UrchLight by Joseph Shaeffer Posted: 10 Jul 2011 07:31 AM PDT Joseph Shaeffer has added another very creative and interresting piece to his collection. UrchLight is a very interesting and eye-catching lamp. It has a modern design and an abstract shape, reminding of several different things. To me, it looks like a snowflake. It has a modern look and it would very beautiful in any home.
It has an apparently disorganised design when in reality everything is very well thought and each piece has its place in that structure. It has a modern look, stylish and chic. It has a diaphane look that makes it more appropriate for a bedroom. however it’s very versatile and it would make a very nice addition to any room as long as it integrates nicely into the decor.Joseph Shaeffer also has other very creative and ingenious creations that you must check.{found on contemporist} |
Lovely DIY Wood Bud Vase and Salt Dish Posted: 10 Jul 2011 12:14 AM PDT When you are invited to somebody's anniversary you have to present yourself with a gift. Sometimes it is hard to decide what to buy or to come up with. Maybe you think that you have many options like a bunch of flowers, a box of candies, an expensive bottle of wine, something to dress or some cosmetics. The choice of your present will depend on the person that will get it. If none of all these ideas will please you then you have another option. You may think of a personalized object which you may even do it yourself. Although it will imply some work the result will be a unique piece that will make you appear as a special person.
Here it is an idea: a DIY wood bud vase and salt dish. Besides the fact that it is a lovely present it will be a useful home piece too.If you have all these materials like: some glass bottles, some walnut, a belt sander with heavy grit paper, an orbital or palm sander with finer grit paper, a drill press, some OSMO finish and a forstner bit and soft cloths, you may start working. You cut a piece off from the walnut and then start some rough sanding on the belt sander. You may also use a palm sander but it will take much more time. Then you choose the shape that you want and mount the block on the lathe to cut a cellar out of it. For the vessel holes you use the drill press and a forstner bit. Hand sanding, the orbital sander with grits and the grit ultra-fine paper are used for finish sanding. After sanding you can apply some OSMO finish with a soft cloth and follow up with a clean cloth. Then just let it cure for about 12 hours, add your finishing salt and a cute small flower and everything is ready.{found on designsponge} |
Welcoming Arms Chair by Oleksandr Shestakovych Posted: 09 Jul 2011 11:23 PM PDT The chair has a very basic piece of furniture in our homes. Usually, when buying a chair, people tent to think only about functionality, simply because it's such a common piece. However, there are ways to make a chair stand out. As a designer, there's only a way to make your creation unique, whether it's adding vivid colors or eye-catching elements. Oleksandr Shestakovych decided to add a little fun to this basic piece of furniture. He created a hybrid that is not a simple chair, nor an armchair, it's an Arms Chair. Featuring simple lines and rounded edges, the Arms Chair is always ready to give you a hug. The design itself is very simple. The chair has 4 legs placed exactly in the corners, creating continuity, a square seat and a backrest. In addition to this it also has 2 arms or armrests that feature tiny hands ion each arm. It's a very small adjustment to the basic design. However, it makes a big difference.
The Arms Chair is great for any home, regardless of the style or décor. It's an eye-catching piece of furniture that will definitely put a smile on anyone's face. It can be used in the dining room, in the living room, on the terrace or deck, anywhere you want. It's a very versatile piece of furniture. The vivid colors are very attractive and fun so it could also be a good choice for the kid's room. |

It plays a lot of functions other than just being an open area within the house plan. The courtyard can in fact be utilized to make it fit to the theme of the interiors of the house. And in most cases, the patio is basically beatified using lot of green plants strategically planted or potted plants placed in appropriate ways to make the place look vibrant and also give it a touch of decoration. Once done with these basics, we can make up a sitting are using spare logs or trunks to make them fit in. planting a tree is a good idea if it is an open courtyard, open from the top. For this a tall tree like coconuts can be chosen, which not only would add to the aesthetic beauty but would also prove shade to sit bet it. But care should be taken to make sure that the falling fruits are channelized safely to avoid unwanted mishaps later on. Another very common feature now a day is that people have started planting their patio with different kind of grass to make it much more vibrant as well as catching to the eye. A kind commonly called the 'Carpet Grass', which is very much soft and doesn't need much attending, is most commonly used but other varieties are also used.
And one more common way around with plants is vertical displays in adjacent walls of the patio, which gives it a totally new dimensional look.
