Wonderful Hus. Ett by Torsten Ottesjö

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 10:15 AM PDT

One of the things that impressed me when I have visited Sweden was the amount of fish that was consumed. If you take into account the geographic position of Sweden this thing becomes understandable. It is a country which has access to the North Sea so one of the important occupations of the people is catching fish or working on boats. One of their favorite fish is herring.

The common thing that relates Hus. Ett and a herring is the shape of the fish. Hus. Ett is a wonderful Swedish woodland micro house designed by Torsten Ottesjö which takes the shape of a herring. Its exterior shape looks exactly as a fish in movement and the wooden roof imitates perfectly its skin.

Its interior space is narrow but there many elements which create a bright and full of light atmosphere like the floor- to- ceiling window panes that exist at both edges of the house or the wood interior finishes.

Although you might think that it is a space not too comfortable the author of this creation will contradict you. He was inspired by automobile and started from the idea that some people love their car more than their house, so the conclusion was that people feel more comfortable and more attracted to the spaces that seem closer to their size than those which are huge.

It is preferable that some things combine the useful with pleasure. DIY Chalkboard Coffee table makes possible this situation and can be constructed very easily. The only things that you need are an old table and a good frame or a new cheap table from IKEA, a piece of ¼ inch MDF, a can of chalkboard spray paint and some bolts to attach the top to the base.

This table may be used very well in kids' camp; the pupils may use it first as a playing place. More kids may join this table and play different games like: chess, cards or Morocco. My Mario Rocha Dream House

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 03:00 AM PDT

Mario Rocha House was designed by Carlos Nuno Lacerda and is located in Valongo, Portugal. What makes it so interesting? One aspect would be the fact that it occupies a large area, another one is that the compartments are different in height and the openings give that impression of light and multitude of volumes. The entire space seems to have been built in order to have the posibility of studying light and the succesion of different spaces with different uses.

There is a permanent concern about the limits between interior and exterior, the kitchen and the spa. The large surfaces are an extension to the outside, providing privacy and also a different perspective over the landscape. The sculpture seems to be the element which has the role to admire and to protect the interior at the same time. There is a general impression of unity and continuity, the shadows on the facade giving everything a certain expression, highlighting the modern design.

The wooden structure gives the necessary shade and, at the same time, provides a sort of rhythm for the entire facade, whitout affecting the privacy aspect.

The combination of materials influences that aspect of modernity;  the interior is also contemporary, with simple but essential pieces of furniture, large glass windows which make things even more attractive. The white exterior is also elegant, revealed by the grass which surrounds the area, but also by the trees and plants which seem to have a protecting role.

Things You Should Consider Before Buying the Air Conditioning

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 02:55 AM PDT

It is already summer and temperatures have started increasing more and more each day. So we all try to do something about it so as to be able to live in a pleasant climate, not in a super hot one. And since we are now addicted to technology, we find a technological solution for every problem. In this case the solution is calledair conditioning. But there are so many brands and models that you simply can’t decide which one to choose and why. Here are a few things you might find useful and that I think you should know before purchasing such a device:

- First you should consider the house and window orientation. For example if your house has all the windows oriented east or south, it is exposed to direct sunlight all day long, so it is more likely to be hotter than other homes, so you will need a more powerful device. If your windows are oriented north your house will be cool, so you will need less AC and less power.

- It is also very important to consider the number of electronics working in one room, as you will need considerably more AC in an office or room with many computers that generate heat than in a room with only a radio for example.

- The number of furniture pieces is also pretty important since a lot of furniture in the room prevents the air from circulating and providing a quality air conditioning.

- The structure of the walls affects the thermic insulation and you should know the best walls for insulating are the wooden ones followed by brick and concrete.

- The number of the windows and their size is pretty important as a room with huge windows offer a larger area for dispersing heat.

These being said, good luck on your attempt to purchase the perfect AC for your home or office!

Wire Garden Trellis from Pottery Barn

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 01:57 AM PDT

If you live in a house and not in a flat, then you certainly have at least a small garden or ground around it that you can use. And if you love nature and plants, then you certainly will try to plant some flower gardens or bushes, little trees or other specific plants for outdoor decoration. I don’t know about you, but I simply love to plant a small and fragile flower or tree and to take care of it until it’s big and strong and a beauty for my garden. But there is one big problem with some trees and bushes or tall plants: they need some support or else they will fall to the ground. That is why you need a trellis.

The garden trellis is very useful, as it protects the plants against wind or wild attackers like small children and can be placed directly on the ground. This particular trellis can be used as a garden decoration in itself, as it is beautiful and you can also use it as support for some light strings that will turn your garden into a marvelous place at night. It is five-foot-tall and it is made of a fine network of wire lines. You can purchase one such item now for the reduced price of $99 from Pottery Barn.

The “Cracked” Family House

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 12:34 AM PDT

The so-called “cracked” house is a house with the location in Heyri Art Valley, somewhere in Paju, South Korea. It is an impressive building which has many modern designed rooms under the same roof; the idea of “cracked” stands for the shared space situated in the center. The house can be used both as two independent houses, if the members of the family feel the need to have some privacy, their own space in which nobody interferes, or as two parts in one house.

The entire building is as big as a block,  this modern house being spread over 3.000 square ft and it is definitely designed for families with a lot of members, designed by Mass Studies,.  The interior spaces offer a sort of modern continuity; the second floor has a rectangular form, the rooms are separated  in an intelligent manner and people can take advantage of every corner which is in fact a pretty wide space, the rooms being very large, simple and complex at the same time.

There are not many pieces of furniture just to fill in the space, on the contrary, there is a perfect proportion in everything, from shapes, wide glass windows, to colours and  details which give personality to a house; flowers, wood tables and chairs , lamps, all sorts of necessary devices, paintings to green concrete, stainless steel walls and the nice garden around this family residence.
