Great Challenge for Frédéric Flanquart-Le Loft des Innocents

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 09:25 AM PDT

Le Loft des Innocents is a place filled with emotion. After it caught fire, the owners wanted to start over so they had Frédéric Flanquart redesign their apartment.

Being badly damaged, this Paris loft became a very important and difficult project. Nonetheless the designer managed to create a refreshing home, combining complexity, simplicity and lightness. With a wonderful approach it is a cosy and unique place to spend every day. Having only the view over Paris as inspiration Frédéric Flanquart came up with a space that is straight or slanting, geometrically random at times and the details are highlighted by dazzling light fixtures.

Moreover, the apartment is a contemporary home that has some traditional elements, such as the wooden beams. After 18 months of hard work Le Lost des Innocents is a shell-free space, where the owners can resume their life. What started as a crazy project is now a superb house.

Design a 3d home interior

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 08:15 AM PDT

The latest buzz in the home improvement industry is to design a 3d home interior. 3d home interior is nothing but designing your home starting from the basement to the roof with the help of 3d designs. The project is not only interesting but a lot of fun also.

There are a large number of interior computer software programs that allow users to create their own 3d home interiors in accordance to their requirements and preferences. Depending upon the budget you are willing to spend, a realistic design can be created with the appropriate interior computer software program, printed and handed over the interior designer to give him an idea of the design you wish your house to feature.

First and foremost, you need to purchase a home interior computer software program. There is a large variety of interior software programs available in the market wearing varied price tags. Needless to be mentioned but high priced software simply implies a large number of features and high quality. However, it is always recommended to purchase software that is easy to use. The average price of such software are $35 -$40. There are certain interior programs such as Google sketchup online that can be downloaded for free.

Once you have the software with you, you need to acquaint yourself with the features of the software. Play around with the software and explore the varied tools and features offered by the software program. Take help of the instruction manual or the user guide to familiarize yourself with the program further in details.

Start designing your 3d home interiors. The process is as simply as clicking, selecting and dragging the appropriate pieces and themes into the specified rooms. Paint the walls of various rooms in different colors and textures, select different size cabinets for the kitchen, experiment with varied types and sizes of furniture and so on to see how the rooms look. Keep in mind to save every new design created so that you can efficiently compare the designs in order to determine the best design.

Lastly, print the best 3d home design created by you. The printed design can be used for reference purpose while designing your interiors. Alternatively, you may hand over the printed design to the interior decorator and ask him to reflect the identical design in your home.{pictures from an Israel based studio}

Doll house bookcase

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 06:25 AM PDT

A very ingenious idea coming from Harry Allen. He designed a modular bookcase that ended up looking like a doll house. It's not an opportunity that you have every day: to have a house inside your house. It's true, it's just a doll house, but still a house.

The design will remind you of your childhood and the way you used to play with dolls and pretend they were alive and they had their own home and friends and all that stuff. That's if you're a girl. If not, this bookcase will remind you of…nothing, in the best case scenario. It's definitely a special storage unit. If you don't want it, your kid will take it without even thinking about it. But enough about the doll house shape. Let's talk about the functional part of this bookcase. It has 15 shelves of various sizes where you can store your books, magazines, even CDs or DVDs or collectibles. How cool would it be to have a doll collection and to store it in this piece? Think about it.

Garage Turned Into a House by Lanefab

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 02:28 AM PDT

In an effort to increase density in some of its neighborhoods, the city of Vancouver allowed home owners to replace their garages with laneway houses. The Mendoza Lane House was the first of its kind and was designed by Lanefab.

Completed in early 2010 this house is built on a 33′x122′ plot and occupies the same space as the garage it replaced. The materials used were manufactured locally, and because of this the house has local style and personality. Built with Structural Insulated Panels, this beautiful home is more energy efficient than a normal house.

The space combines living, dining and kitchen areas and also features a balcony. The house is kept simple, with light colors, in order to give it an airy, big feel. Although it is a rather small property it has everything you could possibly need.

All in all the Mendoza Lane House does not present a huge plot, but it is a very attractive home and the architects used the space very good.
