Cat Inspired Project Becomes a Unique House in Japan

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 09:00 AM PDT

This next house is a one of a kind project, that was designed by Takeshi Hosaka Architects, in Japan, for a couple and two cats. Starting from the idea that humans and cats live together, rather than cats living in a human house, the architects came up with “a house inside which you feel being outside”.

The Inside Out House is made up of two volumes. The outer one houses the bedroom and bathroom boxes and above those are the living room and deck. In an area of the inner volume light, wind or even rain could enter. Moreover, living in an inside out house can be quite interesting due to the change of weather. In the summer the owners can enjoy a relaxing draft, because no air conditioning system was installed in the house.

On the other hand, when it rains you have to find the spots where you won’t get wet. This funcky house is a way to stir up ones life, make the most out of the minimal and enjoy outside features inside.

An astounding lounge that surprises by its uniqueness was designed in Astoria, New York by Antonio Di Oronzo of Bluarch Architecture and Interiors.

With its center position in Astoria, the Cienna Ultralounge is the new concept of style for the New York crowd. The place is almost like a cacoon, with acrylic strands coming out of the ceiling. This project was linked to mathematical clarification because the space is full of geometrical openings in the walls and ceiling.

The club’s cocoon is made up of a shell with tufting, which was made via 3D software. The openings in the ceiling are covered with 88,888 acrylic strands. To top it off there is a LED system installed behind the strands, that give them color and glamour.

Not only is it a posh place, but it is also a stunning experience, due to its wonderful design of the furniture, light and sound systems. Ready for a night out in town?{found on contemporist}

An Amazing Animal Instinct in Furniture Design

Posted: 07 Apr 2011 12:44 AM PDT

Nature has always been a source of inspiration for different types of artists. The shapes of plants or animals made us become closer to nature or made us aware of its importance for our life.

The natural environment inspired designers to create a natural artistic design which can make you think of the other living beings that surround us.Fratelli Boffi created a collection where the shapes of animals occupy an important place. These pieces of furniture make you think of a savanna, a natural environment which abounds in various species of plants and animals.

The snake mirror, the giraffe stools or the pebble shaped modular sofa are some pieces of furniture that create an amazing design which makes you feel like in the middle of a wild nature.

The décor is completed by the earthly colors like brown and grey.

You can also admire other pieces of interior design like the rugs which present images of wild animals and the wood which is a predominant natural material. All these elements create a natural wild décor which can inspire you a taste for wildness and adventure.

Wigwam Motels

Posted: 06 Apr 2011 01:00 PM PDT

If you are just a bit familiarized with the Native American culture and traditions, you certainly know some things about at least the basic features, for example the meaning of the word “wigwam”. It is that tent that is made of animal skins that has one to three feathers from a bird of prey. These wigwams are the traditional homes of the Native people in America, so it was a continuous source of inspiration. That must be the reasonable explanation why there used to be a real trend in building wigwam motels back in the 1930s. These motels were called the “Wigwam motels and they spread around the famous Route 66 .

These wigwam motels were situated very close to each other, being gathered in real villages. Now there are only three left and two of them are situated in and near United States – Kentucky to be more specific. Of course the comfort is minimal, just like we talked about in the previous article , but you still have to pay about $50 the fees for a night. And I think is a fairy price to pay just for having fun and watching what it’s like to live in a wigwam.

Capsule Hotel in the Netherlands

Posted: 06 Apr 2011 12:25 PM PDT

When I was about 14 years old I was fascinated by the science fiction novels and my favourite writer was then Jules Verne. And when I read one of his books about a man travelling all the way from Earth to the Moon in a metallic capsule I dreamed about doing that trip myself. So if you are just a bit like I used to be then, you will certainly love the Capsule Hotel in the Netherlands. First of all you should know it is called like that for a reason: it IS a capsule and all the tourists have to pay to see what it’s like to sleep in one of those.

Actually this capsule hotel is a recycled TEMPS capsule (totally enclosed motor propelled survival craft) that is placed on water and the customers are welcomed aboard. Because the capsule is very small in size ( about 4.25 m in diameter) you won’t get much comfort there, but if you are curious enough you will have to pay 70 euro for one night in a capsule with the basic living conditions, but if you want some more – like sheepskin in your hammock or a DVD player or even a disco ball if you want to, then you will have to pay up to 150 euro a night.

Classic Single Sink Console – White

Posted: 06 Apr 2011 11:27 AM PDT

Normally bathrooms only have a sink and a bathtub or shower cabin. But some of the times , especially when the bathroom is a bit bigger and there’s plenty of room for extra furniture, you can also choose some sink console you can use for storing towels and other items you might need in that room. This can be very useful and nice at the same time, as this sink console can bring a very special touch to the bathroom, a nice view and design.

The sink console I am presenting today is very simple and elegant, yet very classy, as it is made of a wooden frame that supports the sink and the top. The sink is made of white mosaic, as this is the material of choice for bathroom sinks nowadays, but the top of the console is made of Carrara marble, which is famous all over the world for its quality and finesse, not to mention price. There are three drawers you can use for storing things and there is also some space underneath where you can set a wicker basket or something similar or even use it for storing detergents and all. This elegant piece of furniture is white, so you can match it with any kind of bathroom design and it is available for $1,499.00.
