| Bewildering modern residence in Chicago Posted: 26 Mar 2011 07:35 AM PDT Spread over an area of 7800 square feet, the Cortland Residence designed by Nicholas Clark Architects is simply a bewildering structure. As the residence is located in a dense urban neighborhood, the structure had to encompass as much as comfort possible without craving for larger surface area. The architect has provisioned a huge interior space as well as a huge exterior space by accommodating three distinct levels and two large courtyards.
Glass windows and doors have been employed in the entire structure in order to provide panoramic views of the outdoors. The interiors are also well designed and are worth mentioning.
"In the main courtyard, water elements create a focus and patio space is positioned next to the family room which is able to expand to the exterior by opening a folding glass wall." |

| How to choose perfect furniture for a guest room? Posted: 26 Mar 2011 04:23 AM PDT Most of the homeowners devote a lot of time to designing of their bedrooms, living room, bathroom and kitchen. However, whenever it comes to the guest room, the owners are not enthusiastic and are just concerned with finishing the guest room work quickly. And this is absolutely wrong. Like the other rooms of a house, guest room is also equally important. This is the place which will be offered to the guests when they drop into your home for a stay and will be thus responsible for creation of the lasting impression. If you wish to create a cute, welcoming and a cozy guest room then all you need to do is introduce the right furniture pieces. The right furniture will lend a statement to the room and make it appealing. 1) First of all, you need to assess the available space in the guest room. Walk through the space and try to ascertain what all can be accommodated easily.
2) Secondly, ascertain the essential pieces of furniture that must be introduced in the room. Whether you have a single guest visiting you in a year or there are guests every month, a guest bed and a side table are essential pieces of furniture. Try to determine whether you want a single bed, a double bed, or a bed with pull up bed, so that a family can be easily accommodated. 3) If the visiting guests stay at your home for a long period of time, say a week or more than you have to introduce closets in the room. On the other hand, if guests stay for two to three days, casual storage drawers and compartment would do the needful. 4) Coffee tables, chairs and sofas are to be introduced in the guest room depending upon the expected activity of the guests. If you plan to serve meals to the guests in their room itself, then chairs and coffee tables are a must, whereas if it's not this case, then it's entirely your personal decision, whether you want to introduce chairs or tables. 5) Lastly, before approaching furniture shops to buy furniture pieces, it is always better to fix a budget in mind so that you are not tempted to buy furniture pieces that are outside your budget. |

Well, for those passionate of singing in the kitchen while cooking, there is now a special tool that combines the usefulness with the fun: it’s the Sing-a-long tongs. | Romance of the Rose Porcelain from Franz Collection Posted: 25 Mar 2011 02:58 PM PDT I know that nowadays people prefer simple things and simple homes and we barely crawl into a restaurant or fast food to grab a bite. But there are still plenty of refined houses out there where old fashioned people still dress up for dinner and eat out of porcelain plates. And if they do not do that every day, at least they keep the habit for the rare special occasions. It is for these people (and myself) that I found this special and exquisite Rose of the rose porcelain collection. The whole collection includes a cup/saucer/spoon mini-set, a sculptured porcelain tea-pot, a large tray, a large vase and a magnificent asymmetrical desert plate.
This porcelain set is unique and special because it is manufactured by Franz Collection Inc. and it has its named derived from its distinctive mark – the applied porcelain rose. It looks amazing against the white of the porcelain and also having some green insertions. Each piece is handcrafted and hand painted and that makes them unique and very valuable. You cannot order them directly on the Internet, but you can consult the list of retailers of Franz Collection and see which is the nearest store. Any way, it is worth admiring, not to mention having such a delicate and elegant set in the living room. |
| Posted: 25 Mar 2011 02:34 PM PDT I am not an interior designer, but I do arrange my home so as to like it and to enjoy living in it. That makes me an expert in my home design. This is how I know that you can use many simple things in amazing combinations with a surprising result. For example mirrors are some very functional objects that we normally use to see our reflection in when we want to shave, make-up, comb, arrange our hair or see the way we look. But they can also be used for decorative purposes. If you choose a special frame for your mirror and a certain shape and you place it in a special place where you can best value it, this can have great results.
This mirror is perfect for a rustic ambiance, because its frame , even though it is made of metal, is adorned with little twigs and leaves, very similar to the natural ones you have in the garden. It is handcrafted in cast aluminum, but also has an antique-like brass finish. It is delicate and stylish and can bring a fresh air in your home. It is available now for just $99.95, which is a considerable discount. |
| Ideas for a teen’s bedroom design Posted: 25 Mar 2011 01:15 PM PDT Teenagers… they are so difficult. This period is the most agitated and hateful of all. If I could I would just erase it from my memory. Of course, this is not how you think when you are a teen. During that period everything turns around you. You have to look perfect and the others need to like you. And the same goes for your room. It has to look cool and also practical because we all know hoe disorganized teenagers are. So in case you're having trouble designing your kid's room, which you probably do, here are some ideas that could help you make a decision.
All the designs are meant to fulfill the teen's needs. Their room needs to offer comfort and it has to be a good place for studying. It also has to be a casual place for meeting with friends.Any of these room designs would make a teenager happy. And if he's happy then the rest of the family is at least more relaxed. |
| Posted: 25 Mar 2011 12:51 PM PDT I don’t know why but I always light a candle or two or three on the Easter table. It makes me feel special and it makes the meal festive. Besides, Easter is a religious holiday and the candles are the symbol of Jesus Christ’s resurrection and eternal life. And the Easter eggs are the symbol of Easter, as they are said to have been coloured by Christ’s blood when He was on the cross. So why don’t we combine the two and get the so beautiful egg candles? And, of course, you need a special place where to keep them. I found the perfect one – the Egg-a-Labra, the candle holder for egg candles.
This special candle holder is the perfect piece for the centre of the table and it has a wooden support that looks like an urn. It is actually the base for the metal arms of the candle holder. The wood comes from the mango tree and it is painted in white and each of the metal arms is made to support a votive candle, in this case an egg-shaped Easter candle. You can purchase it now for $149 from Pottery Barn. |
