Easter Bunny and Chicken Candles

Posted: 24 Mar 2011 11:11 AM PDT

I love the two most important religious holidays over the year – Easter and Christmas because they are special and usually they are the reason why all family members gather and have a good time together. And I also like preparing the house for the holiday. So I try to find something special every Easter to make my home both welcoming and original. So I surfed the web and I found these cute little candles in the shape of Easter bunnies and yellow chickens.

They are so beautiful and delicate and they make the atmosphere cozy and pleasant, fun and happy. It’s full of symbolism, too, as the Easter Bunny is the Easter version of Santa Claus and the chickens are very closely connected to the eggs, which are also very important to Easter. These candles are very well detailed and they are obtained by pouring the hot wax into the mold and then letting it get cold and solid.

The manufacturers make sure they have the right colour, so the Easter Bunnies candles are brown and the chickens candles are yellow, so they are not that obviously candles. You can use them as fine decorations for the Easter meal and your guests will love your idea. The bunny candle can be bought for $14 and the chicken one for $6.

Denmark Pavilion – an architectural and structural wonder

Posted: 24 Mar 2011 11:07 AM PDT

The Denmark Pavilion generated a lot of comments last year when it was presented at the Shanghai Expo 2010. When you'll look at the images you will realize exactly why.

This interesting structure is actually a big loop on which visitors ride around on one of the 1500 bikes available at the entrance. It is a purely artistic space that challenges your senses. It is not only imaginative from an architectural and structural point of view, but it is also a great representation of the Danish spirit. In the center you can find a big pool with very fresh water from Copenhagen harbor, one of the most clean in the world. You can even swim in the pool if you wish. At the center of the pool rises The Little Mermaid, a representative statue for Denmark that has become a symbol for this country.

The whole structure is made from white painted steel and the roof is covered with a bright light blue surfacing texture. Inside, the floor is also covered with light epoxy and features the blue cycle path for the bikes. It is a real architectural wonder that you might choose against the parks usually used for bike rides.

What is really interesting about this terrace are the 30 m tall Norfolk Pine walls that envelope the entire place. This ingenious solution that the designers came up with is a great way to solve the noise problem. The terrace had to respect the neighbours by keeping the noise down and maintaining privacy, and that is exactly what is does is a very stylish way.

The very tall walls deflect and absorb noise and, in the same time, they create a very warm and inviting space, perfect to relax, have breakfast or have a drink with your friends or relatives under the blue sky or under the stars at night. More than that, the design is not only practical but also elegant, as it incorporates the nice curves found in the art deco form of the rest of the hotel.A very elegant, romantic and private terrace that the visitors, as well as the neighbours can enjoy and appreciate.{pictures by Iwan Baan}

Colorful “Proust” Armchairs by Alessandro Mendini

Armchairs supply the number of seats that a sofa can offer or sometimes they are used as decorative items.Usually, they are designed to be comfortable and make you feel nice. Armchairs are wonderful seats where you can rest for a couple of moments or perfect places for watching TV.

Alessandro Mendini designed "Proust" armchairs. Their shape is traditional and remind you of Marcel Proust's novel "Dans la recherché du temps perdu" and his subjective memory. A perfume, a madeleine or something else are things that remind the protagonist of the novel some moments of his life.

"Proust" armchairs are full of color and they remind you of the beauty of life, the warm of our world and the joyful nature which surrounds us. They will make your interior become more alive and will inspire you a very good mood, which will make feel comfortable and full of joy.

The contemporary house has been split into two sections – one for sleeping and one for relaxing. The sleeping section has been accommodated below the ground so that one can enjoy a noise and trouble free sleep.

Difference between decorating and staging

Posted: 24 Mar 2011 08:43 AM PDT

"Decorating" and "Staging" are two terms of home décor that are often used interchangeably. However, though they are used synonymously but both the terms have their distinct and unique meaning.

Decorating is the art of decorating a house according to the taste and preferences of the client. The personality and the requirements of the client form the main focus of the decoration plan to be adopted. The home is tried to be made as usable and comfortable as possible for the client and his family members.

On the other hand, staging is a science of preparing the home and its varied features for sale in the real estate market. Staging is not concerned with the needs and preferences of the client, but it deals with the style that shall appeal to the universal buyers.

The motto of decoration is to create a customized environment that contributes to the functionality, needs, preferences, productivity, contentment, peace and happiness of a particular person or a family. Whereas the motto of the staging process is to make the home so appealing that it attracts the largest possible number of intended buyers. Home staging deals with increasing buyer traffic so that a faster sale takes place.

The decoration process is executed with a large budget and over a large period of time. The involved professional uses his special creativity and experience to study the buyer's need to make the house of his dreams. The designer tries to remake or redesign the space. On the other hand, the staging process is executed with a tight budget within strict deadlines.  The professional study's the buyer's market and tries to renovate the house in such a way that it appeals to the buyers.  The stager tries to create the house of the buyer's dream by placing himself in the shoes of the buyer.

The decoration of a home involves techniques to increase the functionality, enhance the comfort and to add personal touches so that the house is perfect for living for the client. New furniture pieces, furnishing and other utilities are often introduced. On the other hand, the staging process of a home involves accentuating the features of the property, and not introducing new furnishings and utilities. The existing things are used primarily to prepare the house for showcasing. The house is de cluttered, cleaned and most importantly depersonalized in an attempt to make the house appear at its best.

Rigidified table cloth

Posted: 24 Mar 2011 07:49 AM PDT

I genuinely dislike table cloths. I find them tacky and I think they look… old on freshome. But this design made me reconsider my opinion. I think I could like this one. One of the reasons for that is that it is not even a table cloth per se. It is actually a table made from a rigidified table cloth (resin). What I particularly like about it is that it has no feet. The irregular shape is very intriguing.
I think it's a very nice way of reintroducing the traditional table cloths in our homes. And this time it has a new look that integrates in a smooth way in almost any type of interior, traditional or modern. So, investors, if you like this creative design, let your money do what they know best. Maybe this new item will get produced and someday people will be able to enjoy it.

The Blues Point Hotel is located in Sydney, Australia and it is has a very nice art deco style that is more visible in the interior but also continues on the exterior with this very elegant terrace designed by Carter Williamson Architects.

What is really interesting about this terrace are the 30 m tall Norfolk Pine walls that envelope the entire place. This ingenious solution that the designers came up with is a great way to solve the noise problem. Unusual LED outdoor lighting

Posted: 24 Mar 2011 06:10 AM PDT

The outdoor lighting is as important as indoor lighting. After all, people need to see where they're walking at night and they are not cats so they cat's see into the dark, hence the lighting features.

But just because they are absolutely useful this doesn't mean they have to look boring. And this unusual outdoor lighting feature sure doesn't. It is designed by Jordi Vilardell and Meritxell Vidal and it's certainly an innovation in this domain. It features an LED light strip that is enough to brighten the night sky and, in the same time, it avoids the usual painful and extremely bright lights that you usually find in the commerce. It also comes in three basic shapes: ground – to- ground, ground – to – wall and ground – to – clamp. Choose the one that better suites your space and style. It can easily be dismantled and reassembled so it's easy to be moved. And the best thing comes last: it's waterproof.

Los Mueblos Amorosos Chair by Javier Mariscal

Posted: 24 Mar 2011 05:58 AM PDT

The name is sort of a turn off, maybe not for everyone, but for some people it certainly is. However, when you see the actual chair, you might change your mind.

It is a very happy and colorful chair that lightens the atmosphere in the room. It is also very comfortable. The base of the chair is made from a steel frame and the feet are natural beech, screwed to the frame. I'm not crazy about the colors, but I like the general idea. I think this chair would nicely integrate in a traditional home as well as in a more modern one. The design is quite similar to the standard armchair design and the bright colors add a distinguished feature to its image.Aesthetically, this is a refreshing chair. Its versatile appearance allows it to be placed in almost any room of the house, even in the kids bedroom. One thing I would change about this chair is the name. The rest is a really nice combination of old and new.
