Chicago 8 Box Storage Shelves

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 11:04 AM PDT

Sometimes your house is simply not fit for a bookcase, especially today when most young people read e-books and they also use DVDs and Blu-ray discs. So it’s more useful to have a storage shelf instead where to place both books and some other items you need to store or when you simply need to place some nice decorations on display in your living room. I think these beautiful Chicago 8 Box storage shelves are perfect for every modern house.

This fine piece of furniture is made of eight storage shelves that actually look like boxes combined with shelves. They are displayed in three rows: two of them with three shelves and one with two shelves. They are displayed in an irregular pattern, which only makes them very cool and have a modern design. The shelves are made of wood and they seem to be floating, as they are linked by some tubular steel legs that are powder-coated. The piece of furniture is manufactured by Blu Dot and it is now available in cherry, graphite-on-oak, maple and white oak for $1,799.

Ribbon Chair from Artifort

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 10:09 AM PDT

There is such a wide offer of furniture these days that you only notice the most unusual models and items. That is why this Ribbon chair manufactured by Artifort drew my attention. It is indeed and unusual chair or ottoman and its name comes from its shape – it looks like a ribbon. This chair is pretty uncommon because it does not resemble anything that you might associate with the notion of chair. It looks like a distorted futuristic shape or the product of a crazy imagination. However, this chair is really comfortable, not to mention original.

Although you might find it hard to believe, the chair was designed by Pierre Paulin back in 1966 and today it is manufactured by the Dutch company mentioned before. And since the designer thought that a chair should be more than a simple functional object, but it should also bring happiness and fun, the present look of the Ribbon chair offers exactly this thing. As you can see from the pictures, the chair is vividly coloured and also expresses fun. It has the shape of a ribbon and this is possible because of the tubular steel frame that supports the upholstery. It is more of a work of art and that explains the huge price – 10,397.

Rubik’s Cube big brother – The Rubik Cube Locker

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 09:58 AM PDT

I think by now everybody is familiar with Rubik's cube. It's an interesting item that that you just can't ignore. It's like it almost forces you to play with it. And unless you know the combinations used to solve it or you're either very lucky, after a while you just give up. But not for long.

Now, Rubik's cube takes the next step and becomes a furniture piece. Of course, this is not actually a Rubik's cube. It just borrowed the external features from it. You can try to scramble the pieces as much as you want, you'll never succeed. And it's already solves so… no fun. But at least you don't have to worry about that part anymore.

The dimensions of this storage space are 100 x 100 x 100. One of the sides opens and allows you to store different things inside. Also, because each side is different, you can switch the colors to match the rest of the furniture or to change the atmosphere when you get bored. It might not be as popular as the original Rubik's cube, but it's a very interesting piece of furniture waiting for you to take it home.

Futuristic fireplace designs by Elena Colombo

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 07:47 AM PDT

I think a lot of people would consider buying a place, that doesn't necessarily meet their expectations, just because it has a fireplace. You can now forget about that.Elena Colombo presents to the public this very unusual option. Her ideas for this otherwise rudimentary piece are revolutionary.

The designs are mind – blowing. She uses materials that you would never think could be put together, especially in a fireplace design, and the results are spectacular. If you wish to posses a very unique piece, there are several options you can choose from. And they come in nay size.

It is an extreme design that will more than satisfy you inexplicable attraction towards fireplaces. This is not the usual fireplace. Nothing about it is usual. Not the shape, not the materials used and certainly not the location. Who said the fireplace should stay inside? Feel free to use this one in any way you want.

Choose best furniture for small spaces

Posted: 22 Mar 2011 06:36 AM PDT

Nowadays, more and more people are complaining about the limited and small spaces in their flats. Whether you rent it or buy it, houses, apartments, condos and flats are all known to feature small spaces. And this is all due to soaring prices of property.

If you are also staying in small spaces, then there is no point in cribbing about it as it is a problem faced by everyone. What you can really do is choose the best furniture for the small space so that the place looks well designed, and you can live comfortably.

Let's explore some of the tips that shall help you to choose best furniture for small spaces –

1) To begin, start with the selection of lightweight and modern furniture that is compact and unobtrusive. Basically, these types of furniture would be the ones that are low to the ground and feature simple and straight lines. In addition, also try to choose furniture with legs as light will be allowed to travel, and the room shall appear spacious. Furniture pieces that allow light to travel through them are also a good selection. For instance, glass furniture.

2) Most of the people make the common mistake of picking up a bunch of small pieces to decorate small spaces. However, this is completely wrong as it gives way to cluttered look, and the space gets broken up. Instead of a bunch of pieces, select few (two or three) furniture pieces of a large profile. Large furniture pieces will allow the eye to move slowly across the room and will create the feeling of spaciousness.

3) Selection of wall mounted furniture for small spaces is also a terrific option. This takes less space and also frees the floor space. A wall mounted desk, a wall mounted dining table, and a wall mounted console are some popular options of the wall mounted furniture. If mounting is not the right solution for you, consider folding tables and chairs that can be folded when not in use to create extra space.Alternatively, you may also settle for furniture with wheels or simply add wheels to your furniture pieces. This will make the furniture pieces more functional.

4) When choosing furniture for small spaces try and select the pieces in monochromatic color tones. Monochromatic color scheme is made of basic color tones in varied hues. If you have already purchased furniture, then consider investing in slip covers.
