| Spectacular sculptures made from pencils Posted: 18 Mar 2011 10:51 AM PDT Just because a certain object is used in a particular way, that doesn't mean you have to do the same. An affirmation that can be applied to almost everything. In this case, the object in question is a pencil. Actually, a lot of pencils.Jennifer Maestre has found a new use for this small object that we all know and that is normally used for writing. She managed to think out of the box and the results were spectacular.
The technique used to realize these sculptures is not an easy one. The artist saws off parts of the pencils, makes holes in them and sews them together. She must really be a patient person. |
| How to arrange furniture around a fireplace? Posted: 18 Mar 2011 08:37 AM PDT The fireplace has always known to be an epitome of indulgence, gratification and warmth to a myriad number of houses all across the globe. It automatically enhances the amiability and coziness of the room. In addition, it is also considered as the focal point of the room, no matter where it is placed. It is doubtless that furniture placement around a fireplace is a challenging task, and people are completely unaware of how furniture should be arranged around a fireplace. Well, arranging furniture around a fireplace is tricky and difficult, but it is not rocket science. All you need is creativity clubbed visualization. Alternatively, you may also plan the layout of the room in a piece of graph paper. 1) First and foremost step of arrangement of furniture around a fireplace is to start with the seating arrangement. This shall ensure that the functionality of the fireplace is harnessed, and you make the best use of it. The ideal way to arrange the seating is to start with the largest piece of seating furniture, which is generally the sofa. Place the sofa parallel to the fireplace according to the availability of the space. If space is less, place the sofa against the opposite wall. On the other hand, if there is ample of space, you can leave some free space behind the sofa.
2) If you have a loveseat or a recliner, place it perpendicular to the fireplace, to the right or left side of the sofa. If you do not own a loveseat, consider adding few chairs or a couch.
3) The chairs also need to be placed perpendicularly to the fireplace. Alternatively, you may also angle them towards each other. 4) Fourthly, you need to arrange a table between the seating arrangements. If you have endtables, then the ideal location for them is on the either sides of the sofa. Alternatively, an end table can also be placed beside the love seat or chair. 5) Lastly, you need to complete the arrangement by introducing the entertainment system. The best solution is to hang a flat screen television above the fireplace. This will ensure that the television is used to its best. In addition, it shall also free up space in the room. If there are additional speakers of the television, you may place them on hanging shelves on either sides of the television. |
| Posted: 18 Mar 2011 07:59 AM PDT As technology evolves in a surprisingly fast way, the same thing happens with the lifestyle. The days when all you needed to have in your home was a simple table, some chairs and a bed to sleep in at night are over. Nowadays people need more and thing things to feel like home in their own house. The space they have is however limited. So the double function pieces of furniture are very appreciated.
I'm not sure how many women would allow to have a poker table in their house. But thanks to this ingenious design from Lee J Rowland they just can't argue anymore. Technology has finally found a way to shut them up. Now all you need in money and your dreams can come true. |
| Colorful and friendly egg shaped chair Posted: 18 Mar 2011 06:37 AM PDT I often wonder how the baby turtles or baby chicken feel like when they first come out into the real world. Now it's easier for me to imagine it thanks to this egg shaped chair. Karim Rashid, the ingenious mind that designed it, calles it Martela Koop.It is a very friendly chair, with soft lines and bright colors. Because of its aesthetic appearance, it would be an appropriate choice for the children's room. The shape, as well as the colors, are very well chosen for this purpose.
But I'm sure that not only the kids would love this chair. And why would they be only ones allowed to have such a fun chair in their room? That's the thing: they are not the only ones. This chair would integrate perfectly in anyone's room, kid or adult. It's very comfortable and it adds some color to the surroundings. |

| Stacking chairs from Karim Rashid Posted: 18 Mar 2011 03:21 AM PDT Something different from the designer Karim Rashid. The idea he proposes is that of two similar chairs stacked one on top of the other. The design is very simple, elegant and also modern. An otherwise childish idea that he managed to turn into something real and also beautiful. The colors he used are black and beige. The image they create is a delicious one. I personally associate this combination of colors with chocolate. Even though I'm not a chocolate fan, I find these chairs very tasty.

| How to arrange furniture around a tv? Posted: 18 Mar 2011 02:48 AM PDT Nowadays, most of the people consider introducing a television in their living room area so that they can enjoy some great moments with their family. After all, there is nothing as wonderful as seating together with the family members and friends and watching the favorite television soap.Though a myriad number of people give utmost importance to installation of television in the living room, but very few of them actually give importance to the arrangement of furniture around it. Arrangement of furniture around a television is very vital and should be given proper consideration.
1) First of all, you need to consider the position of the television that shall anchor the room. If you have a flat screen television, then the ideal location for it is the wall. Assure that the wall where you hang the television is empty. On the other hand, if you own the typical box type television then you need to place it on a television stand and place the stand centrally in the living room according to the availability of space.
2) Now you need to consider the seating arrangement. The first thumb rule of arranging the seating arrangement around a television is that television must be visible by all the seats. In addition, the seating arrangement should also be such that people do not land up straining their necks while watching television. It is always recommended to first place the sofa as it is the largest piece of furniture and can house maximum people. If space permits, place the sofa parallel to the television unit.
3) Arrange the other seating furniture such as the chairs, love seat, couches on the sides of the sofa according to the availability of space. However, ensure to leave enough space (but not more than three feet) for smooth traffic flow. In addition, there should also be enough space that functionality of other furniture's in the room is not disrupted especially the doors.
4) Add a table to the arrangement to make it complete. The ideal way to place the table is in the center of the seating arrangement so that it is accessible by most of the seats. Also ensure that there is enough leg space between the table and the seating furniture. |
| Soft and cozy hand crafted rugs Posted: 18 Mar 2011 02:08 AM PDT Nowadays people are in such a rush to replace their old furniture, gadgets, accessories with the newest trends, that they often forget that people used the same old structures for centuries not because they didn't have other choice but because they considered that was the best option for them. Of course, everyone is free to choose what he or her likes best. But, between a traditional and a modern design, the last one has better chances of winning. Gandia Blasco is here to remind us that something vintage like a wool rug can still be attractive and adequate for a 21st century home. The rugs and poufs are hand crafted and extremely cozy and comfortable to sit on.
The colors used, very soft and casual, are tones of greys, pastels and warm browns. I would just love to lay down on them and slowly fall asleep, feeling warm and cozy. |
