Day Bed One

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 11:06 AM PDT

Normally you have a family bed in the bedroom and a sofa in the living room. Your guests can use the sofa to sleep on at times when they stay overnight, but this will not offer them a comfortable sleep, but only a place to put the head down. However, sometimes a sofa is simply not the best choice for the living room and in this case you should consider purchasing a day bed instead, especially you have friends who are used to spend the night over to your house.

You can use this bed for different things during day or night by simply moving its cushion. Put it against the wall and you will have a comfortable place to lean on while watching TV and put it on the side at night for getting a cosy single bed. It is very useful either way.

The base of the bed is made of wood, of European oak to be more precise and the top is actually a very comfortable mattress together with a head cushion. Actually you don’t even have to use them together until you need a bed, as you can use the wooden base as a coffee table because its legs are pretty short and it looks just like one. Only the mattress on makes you look at it like a bed. The mattress is a bit special, as it is made by Naturalmat and has a Latex core, wrapped in a wool cover. You can purchase it now for  €1265-€2215 (Euro Price) or  $1750-$3060 (USD Price) – the mattress must be purchased separately.

A robust but elegant chair from Karim Rashid

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 09:59 AM PDT

The High Roller – this is how the designer Karim Rashid has named his new creation from the chairs department. It is not by any means the classic chair that you were used with. Certainly, the shape is not traditional.

The lines are very soft and gentle and the design follows the human body's silhouette. This is exactly why this chair is very comfortable despite the fact that it's made out of wood. Although it might look heavy, inefficient and difficult to transport, I think the visual impact that it has on you makes all that worth it.I especially like the simplicity of this design and the way that the two colors perfectly complement each other. The small details like this one are what makes the difference between elegance and kitsch. In this case, simplicity is more than enough.

How to arrange furniture in a small living room?

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 09:29 AM PDT

With property prices soaring high, apartments featuring a small living room are no more uncommon. In addition, as the living room is considered to be the focal point of a house, and often used as a sitting place to sit with friends and family members, people are now looking for efficient ways to arrange furniture in a small living room.If you are looking for efficient ways to arrange furniture in a small living room, then you have a piece of luck.

The first and foremost step of arranging furniture in a small living room is to determine the furniture pieces that are essential in your living room. The common essential items are seating furniture pieces, a table and entertainment center. Other additional items that you may consider introducing depending upon the availability of space are couches and chairs.

- Start off the arrangement process with the largest piece of furniture. Every room requires a focal point and in most of the cases, the focal point is the largest piece of furniture. Your television or the entertainment center is likely to be the longest piece of furniture and also the focal point. Place the entertainment center against an empty wall. If your budget permits you, invest in a flat screen television. This shall free up a lot of space in the room.

- Arrange the seating furniture around the entertainment center in different configurations. Place the longest seating furniture, which is the sofa directly opposite to the focal point of the room. So that people sitting on it, can face the focal point of the room.

- Thirdly, place the other pieces of furniture such as the couches and chairs on either sides of the sofa so that it is perpendicular to it. If the entertainment center is in use, you may angle the couches and chairs towards the television, or else you may have them angled with the sofa.

- Lastly, you need to place the table. If there is ample of space in the mid section area between the entertainment center and sofa, then you place a table as a center table. When placing a center table, ensure that it is not blocking the flow of traffic. If the space does not permit you to do so, place a corner table in between two pieces of furniture.

An homage to light: Sottovoce by Huub Ubbens

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 08:54 AM PDT

When someone comes up with a new idea for the LED Light Exhibition Design, you would expect to actually see some light – related pieces, or, at least, some actual use of light.

But instead of giving you the satisfaction of seeing that, the Dutch designer Huub Ubbens chose not to use the same old cliché ideas and to present to the public something completely unexpected.. He designed four big, matt – black cones. Inside each one of them there is a one person space where you can listen to 20 minutes texts, recited by Italian actors.

All 5 essays are meant to make you think about light. Instead of simply showing it to you, this creation is addressed to the intellectual side of the human being. And the design is perfect for this. The intimacy that the darkness induces inside the cones creates the perfect ambient to concentrate on the message of the essays. The atmosphere also emphasizes the meaning of the words and invites you to let your imagination run free. 20 minutes in there are enough to make you meditate about the profound aspects of life.

Nobis Hotel – Stockholm, Sweden

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 06:23 AM PDT

The hotels are normally places where all people are supposed to feel fine and welcome, where everybody can enjoy a three day stay, no matter what their tastes are when talking about interior design. That is why hotel designers usually choose neutral tones and go for the classic look and arrangement because this way they can’t go wrong. A very good example of taste and style is the Nobis Hotel situated in the central square in Stockholm, Sweden.

This hotel benefited from the work of a famous architect and designer called Claesson Koivisto Rune who succeeded in blending the past and present in a very pleasant way. The hotel was build back in the 1880s (or at least a part of it) so the xterior is one typical for the old buildings, but it also has something that is characteristic to the bourgeoisy of the time: elegance and style. The history of the place is complex, as it housed a bank in the past and there was here a bank robber held four people hostages and generated the term “Stockholm syndrome” to first appear into use.

So you will see the modern furniture and all the modern appliances combined with the old-fashioned, but amazingly beautiful building materials like marble and stone, the classic rooms with high ceilings staying close to the very modern and luxurious bars and restaurants. Here are some of the features that describe this hotel best of all: comfort, personality, warmth, atmosphere, casual elegance, contemporary timelessness and durable quality.

The 201 rooms all look calm, but also sophisticated, offering the best comfort and the latest technological means, but also the peace and quiet that are specific to the nineteenth century. Even though the design may look simple, the materials used are of best quality and taste.
