| Posted: 15 Mar 2011 10:27 AM PDT I have always enjoys historical films where i could see what happened in the past, how our ancestors were living and what they were doing during those times. Well, I was fascinated by the Romans’ history and civilization, by their amazing and luxurious public baths that were made of marble and stone. And they were among the first ones to use hot water in these baths and … a lot of other innovations they used and spread throughout their Empire. And if in the past this privilege only belonged to the wealthy ones, well – today all of us can have our bath, but not all of us can afford one made of marble or granite.
These bathtubs are really expensive and that is why they are so rare. But their price is understandable considering the fact that they are sculpted by hand in a huge block of marble until you have the desired size and shape. Many of these bathtubs are afterwards decorated with amazingly beautiful carvings just like they used to be in the past, during the Roman Empire.
But, no matter if they are mo0dern and rectangular, round, oval shaped and full of carvings, suspended or not, they are still very beautiful because this material – the marble stone – offers style and grace to every bathroom and it gets warm and nice when heated by hot water, this being an unforgettable experience in itself. You can now order your favourite model of marble bathtub directly in the online shop, starting with the offer of the month, somewhere around the price of $2,650. |
| Botanical Embroidered Organic Quilt & Sham Posted: 15 Mar 2011 09:51 AM PDT Quilting is said to be one of the oldest American traditions and it is used to obtain thicker and more comfortable bed coverings and blankets. This way they become warmer and nicer, being very useful, especially in winter. But besides the functional purpose and result, you can also use quilting to obtain a very nice visual effect and a pleasant bedding for your bedroom. Here you can see a nice organic quilt and sham that is also embroidered on the margins.
This beautiful bedding is special because of its unusual pattern, of its magnificent embroidery. It is also made of organic cotton, meaning that this cotton was grown without using any chemicals, but only using natural fertilizers. The nice embroidery is made by hand and it is made with contrasting threads. That is if the bedding is beige or white the thread used for embroidery will be black or brown.
Even the colours used for dying the threads that were woven in this nice organic quilt and sham are natural. So what more can you ask? It is quilted with an envelope closure and can be washed in the washing machine. You can buy the whole set or only parts of it from the Pottery Barn. |
| Intriguing country house in Québec, Canada Posted: 15 Mar 2011 09:17 AM PDT It is a strange look for a simple house. Well, that was the purpose of the design. At a more careful analysis, we see that this is actually a traditional classic house except for the roof. That is the detail that singularizes it from the other designs. The shape of the roof is also what gave the name of this project.
Located in Québec, Canada, La Cornette is a country house designed by YH2 for two families. It's meant to serve a house for celebrations and holidays. The exterior design, as well as the interior are somewhat traditional, but in two very different ways. The interior is made in wood, both natural and painted, with a simple and comfortable look.
The exterior, however, is a completely different story. It's intriguing, even a little dramatic and doesn't seem to go very well with the rest of the environment. I guess the owners wanted something different and, well, here's the result. |
| Friendly Spiral Pendant design by Ridgely Studio Works Posted: 15 Mar 2011 08:37 AM PDT Another interesting design. This time based on the symbol of infinity. Ridgely Studio Works came up with this idea for pendants. The spiral shape gives them a futuristic and, in the same time, elegant look.
The pendant is composed or four similar pieces, hanging at the same level. It is designed particularly for tall and large rooms, otherwise it might be a little overwhelming to place it in a small room, not to mention that the light it emits is very powerful and yet soft. This is a very friendly design that can be incorporated in almost any type of environment. It is suitable for a family home, as well as for a large office. This is an accessory with adapting personality. It can make a very modern detail, but also it can be a soft, romantic and elegant piece. It's all up to you. |
| Contemporary Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church Posted: 15 Mar 2011 06:58 AM PDT This is a church that even an atheist would like! Believe me, I know what I'm saying! You just can't overlook the fact that it has that "je ne sais quoi" that you can't define and, still, it lures you inside.
The principle behind this amazing construction is interaction. It offers the perfect opportunity for people to interact with each other at a horizontal level and, in the same time, it facilitates the communication with the Divinity, at a vertical level.
This new Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church, designed by Teeple Architects, puts an end to the belief that churches must be sober, traditional, with a vintage look and all sorts of decorations that almost make them look like a museum. Older is not always better. Plus, this church really takes into consideration the comfort factor. Going to the church is a pleasure.
The majestic structure perfectly reunites two completely different worlds: the mysterious and obscure land of faith and the brutally real outside world, the past and the present, the old and the modern, all in only one place. |

| Creative shower screen designs by Antonio Lupi Posted: 15 Mar 2011 04:44 AM PDT The action of taking a shower is so personal, sensual, almost divine. It's only natural for the ambiance to be appropriate. That is why the Italian designer Riccardo Fattori came up with this creative idea.
His designs incorporate a diversity of floral elements, shapes, typography and themes that celebrate the beauty of the human body. They are meant to complete the romantic and intimate atmosphere from one of the most important rooms in the house. The designs are adhered onto 8 millimeter thick glass, which is both scratch-resistant and water-stain resistant.
You can also choose between frosted and transparent backgrounds, as well as from a variety of colors and texture combinations, such as a transparent design on matte glass or a matte design on transparent glass. Don't be afraid to include art in your bathroom. It deserves to be appreciated. |

| Multi – purpose chair from Marco Hammerling Posted: 15 Mar 2011 03:36 AM PDT Here's a chair that is four times more comfortable that the usual standard chair. Or, at least in theory it is. The TriWing chair, created by the designer Marco Hammerling, incorporates four different sitting positions in only one structure. All of this is possible by simply flipping the chair along the longitudinal axis. In this way, this very original piece of furniture changes its posture and unfolds its multiple options. |
| Hello, Kitty! Doors from Nusco Posted: 15 Mar 2011 03:16 AM PDT Kids just love animals in general and cats in special because they are so gentle and nice, playful and small, just like them. So Hello, Kitty!, the nice character that you can see on many items for kids is loved by children all over the world and by adults, too (though they wouldn’t admit it). I have mentioned this nice kitty in an older article when talking about a whole house that was designed on a Hello, Kitty! theme. But now I am talking about something different: interior doors with Hello, Kitty ! pattern on.
The smart guys from Nusco porte, an Italian company that manufactures doors and windows, had a brilliant idea to talk to the people from Sanrio (those who own the Hello, Kitty! copyright) and to start a nice collaboration with them. So they started using Hello, Kitty! pictures on their interior doors and released a whole collection with this name (Hello, Kitty!).
As you can see from the pictures the doors look really nice with these Hello, Kitty patterns applied on them and there is even a luxury collection of doors that use Swarovski crystals. This adds a bit of glamour and style to the doors and you can combine them with some other elements of interior design with Hello, Kitty models, obtaining a very sweet design for your girl’s room and even for your living room. |
