Henry VIII and Disappearing Wives Mug Posted: 26 Feb 2011 10:53 AM PST British history is very rich in amazing and unusual facts that are remembered after hundreds of years and still fascinate people from all over the world. I am especially interested in the Golden Age of the British Empire, with Elizabeth and Henry VIII. Of course the political accomplishments of the two, especially of the latter are very well completed by their unusual personal love lives. Henry VIII is now better remembered for his six wives and the fact that he decapitated most of them rather than for his accomplishments as a king. That is the source of inspiration for the Henry VIII and Disappearing Wives Mug you can admire in the pictures here. This mug is a bit more special than all the other mugs painted with different portraits. That is because of the special feature of being thermo-sensitive. That means that when you pour hot liquid in the mug (coffee, tea, cocoa or some other beverages) the image of the six wives on the mug slowly disappear. When the temperature returns to its initial value, the wives appear again. You can use this mug in the microwave oven, too, as it is totally safe for this. If you like this funny mug you can purchase it now for $10.95. |
Café Table Dresser by Shin Azumi Posted: 26 Feb 2011 10:39 AM PST Cafés are special places where people come together and share their thoughts. I think coffee is a special drink that must be discussed over and that makes its flavour even more delicious. People who run these places are very inspired and purchase round tables that are perfect for intimate and long talks over a cup of steaming coffee. But these nice round tables can also be used inside the house, as your favourite coffee table. And the Café table dresser by Shin Azumi that I am presenting today is the perfect choice for your living room. That is because of its special feature – it hides a small dresser under the table top. Instead of having only a narrow board as table top, this one has a wider part as top and the upper part that serves as table top can be lifted like a lid, giving you access to the space beneath. It’s not much, but it’s enough for a small dresser where a modern woman can keep her trifles, her small things that she needs all the time. It is perfect for all the make up and and perfume bottles, all the cosmetic products, as it has a mirror attached to the lid. It’s your choice to use it for storing whatever you need to or to simply use it as a coffee table. The designer Shin Azuni from Japan proved very creative when designing it. |
Posted: 26 Feb 2011 09:23 AM PST If you like boiled eggs in a certain way then you know that it is a bit hard to get mild or soft boiled eggs and medium boiled ones, as it is very easy to let the egg one more minute on the cooker and it will turn hard in no time. Or , if you want to have it mildly boiled you risk taking it out too soon and then you will have to throw it away. You might say that the rule is to boil the egg for three minutes if you want it perfect – something between soft and medium. Well, allow me to disagree, as three minutes on a really hot cooker is a lot different when the fire is minimum, plus we must also take into consideration such factors like the quantity of water, the number of eggs and even the altitude. The perfect and easiest solution for this problem is the “foolproof egg timer”. It is a gadget with the shape and size of an egg, but coloured in red. It is sensitive to the temperature of the water in the pot and not to the time, so it is able to tell you exactly when the eggs are perfectly cooked, according to your taste. That is why it is graded with soft, medium and hard and the hotter the water the darker the timer towards the middle. So it is pretty easy to see when this darker shade touches the right line. It is totally useful and also easy to use (as I said – foolproof), non toxic and funny, too. You can buy it now for £4.99. |
Conceal Shelf – Invisible Bookshelf from Umbra Posted: 26 Feb 2011 08:57 AM PST I love literature and I think it’s a lot better to read a book than to see a movie because it helps you develop imagination , as you can “see” all the characters in your head, all of them drawn by your own imagination. This way you will be your own director and you will not take someone else’ s ideas for granted. That is why I have a whole collection of books of home, even if I do read online books or even listen to audio books, as i think it’s a blessing to benefit from all the gadgets that technology offers to us nowadays. But I hate bookcases and any way I need more than one to store all the books I have. That is why I started looking for some funny and unusual bookshelves that i can use in my house. And I found this nice Conceal shelf from Umbra. What i like about this bookshelf is the fact that it seems to be invisible and the books seem to float in the air. You can stack up to ten books and the only condition is to have a hard back book on the stack bottom. It may seem like a trick, but I will tell you it’s nothing like this – just a nice metal bookshelf that is hidden from the eyes. As you can see in picture three and four it is actually a metal support that is bolted to the wall and hidden by the stack of books, with the bottom part also hidden by the hard cover of the bottom book. The cover will not fall open thanks to the little rim on the support that holds it in one place. The only secret is to use as many books as necessary to cover the whole metal support. And the rest will be done by people’s imagination. You can now purchase this shelf on Amazon for $13.70. |
Posted: 26 Feb 2011 07:32 AM PST I don’t know what happened to the kids nowadays, but I guess they have too much to choose from or they have too much of our attention on them, but they simply refuse to eat their meals without a whole set of whining and fussing. So the desperate parents don’t know what to do and what means to invent that will make their kids accept food without any problems. After I have tried impersonating all cartoon characters and imitating all wild and farm animals, I have found an acceptable solution at last: I found an amazing and funny set of kids dinnerware that looks like a toy train. The Chew Chew train dinner set is made of many plastic utensils for children that look like the famous transformers. At first everything looks like a toy train that chew chews when entering the train station, but after that you can turn it into a set of trays, spoon, fork, bowl , cup and plate – just about everything you need for the dinner. This way your child will enjoy eating and playing at the same time and you will even encourage it to eat alone, making the first steps towards the child’s total independence. The train comes into two different colours – blue for the boys and pink for the girls and respects all the hygiene and medical requests , being totally safe for kids. You can wash them in the washing machine , but do not use it in the microwave. Now it is available for $19.95 on Vat19. |
George Nelson Eye clock from Vitra Posted: 26 Feb 2011 06:20 AM PST When something is really interesting and out of the ordinary you say that it “catches your eye”. Well, if you take a look at this wall clock it will certainly catch your eye. This unusual but really interesting clock is called the Eye clock because it has the shape of an eye. The designer George Nelson was inspired by the nice shape of the human eye and created this wall clock some time back in the ’50s and now it is manufactured by the European company Vitra. Even if now these clocks are manufactured in Europe, they are still retailed in America, where their creator, George Nelson was born and raised. He was in fact one of the forefathers of American modern design and you can find many of his works in the Modern art museums in America and all over the world. This clock is more than half a century old, but still stylish and it will never go out of fashion, bringing a special style to the house with its originality. It is made of wood and metal, with the middle wooden bar stand for the “backbone” of the whole structure, supporting all the other elements. The black round piece in the middle stands for the eye pupil and the lines that represent the hours stand for the eye lashes. It is very ingenious and creative and you can now purchase it for $481 on Amazon or $405 on Stardust.

Posted: 25 Feb 2011 01:59 PM PST When I am in the kitchen I am always keeping my eyes on the clock for various reasons: first I need to know the time it takes for the food to be ready, then I permanently need to know the time to also organize and schedule my other chores around the house and also to see if I can “steal” a few minutes to watch my favourite TV series. That is why I keep a nice wall clock in the kitchen. However, I have always wanted to change it (it is digital) and replace it with a funny one, something to suggest the kitchen environment. And I have just found out the perfect replacement – the “Fork and spoon wall clock”. This clock is really funny, as it has a spoon and a fork instead of the clock arms and it is all made of metal. The paint that covers it is red and there are also some other kitchen utensils one the side, like spoons, forks and spatulas. The numbers for the hours are made of shiny silver metal and the combination of silver in the middle with the red paint is really nice. This funny kitchen clock is made in China and it can be bought for a price between $4.78-4.98, which is quite a bargain. |
