Solar System Rug

Posted: 24 Jan 2011 09:43 AM PST

My daughter is only five but one day, when she came back from the kindergarten she told me something that totally amazed me: “Mom, do you know that Jupiter is my favorite planet in the Solar System?”. I was speechless. I had no idea that she knew what a planet was, but knowing about the Solar System was too much for me. Apparently my girl developed a crush on astronomy and she wanted to know everything about it the first chance she got. So you can imagine I started looking for special posters and rugs for the kids’ room.

To my surprise I found something interesting pretty easily in an online store. Here is the Solar System Rug that you can purchase for about 63 pounds. This rug is perfect for the kids, as it is thick and beautifully colored, but at the same time, it is very realistic, as it respects the geographic shapes and colors of the planets. Of course, the orbit of the planets around the Sun are depicted for scientific purposes, so that they can imagine the exact trajectory of the planets around their star. The point of reference is the Sun itself, places at the base of the carpet with all the revolving planets around it. Pretty colorful, imaginative and also educational, what do you say?

Looking after your home over the winter months

Posted: 24 Jan 2011 07:00 AM PST

With the winter months bringing low temperatures it's vital that you carry out a degree of home maintenance in order to ensure that your home insurance policy continues to be valid; you're expected to look after your property to a reasonable degree as part of the agreement, so damage occurring as an upshot of poor maintenance may not be covered by your insurance. So with the harsh weather well and truly upon us, it's more important now than ever to keep things ticking over at home as a little effort here and there can save you a huge amount of money in the long run.

Building insurance doesn't tend to cover general wear and tear to your property's roof or guttering system, so be sure to check regularly for unsafe roof tiles or blocked gutters and drains. If your property has a flat roof, it's also imperative that you check for water pooling that could lead to leakages. If you have a functional chimney, then it's good practice to have it swept at least once per year to avoid potential problems further down the line.

Frozen water pipes are a real problem during the winter months as they can lead to burst pipes and devastating water damage. Turn off the water supply to outside taps to prevent them from freezing and check pipes and tanks to ensure they remain in a good state of repair.

Your home's boiler is another vital piece of equipment that must be kept in order wherever possible. Get it serviced by a qualified engineer on an annual basis in order to vastly reduce the chances of it breaking down at an inopportune moment. It may even be worth taking out separate boiler insurance as boilers can be notoriously prone to problems once they get past a certain age. Insurance deals often include 'free' repairs and an annual service thrown in, so do some research and weigh up your options to decide it the extra cost of boiler insurance is worth it for your situation.

By taking pride in your home and making the effort to make sure things continue to run smoothly with a small amount of effort here and there, you'll be ensuring that you won't be left out of pocket further down the line with a rejected insurance claim.

They have always troubled our existence. Each time we notice or we hear about these strange objects, we try to find an explanation for them.Alessandro Loschiavo with Michele Russo designed this watable. Although it looks like an UFO, we can give it some explanations.

It is a very nice table that can fit many places. It can also be used as a coffee table. Its base is filled with water and is connected to the superior part through a tube. The tabletop is made of acrylic, the tube is made of a carbon fiber and the base is a translucent container. The blue color and the light of the table   create a mysterious atmosphere which makes us think of those UFOs.
