Our homes are more and more modern and that means that we use technology more and more. So we have a lot of home appliances that we use to make our lives easier and to spend less effort on the house chores. But the funny thing is that these appliances break easily and unfortunately they cost quite a good sum of money, so it can be pretty expensive to keep all of them functioning properly. And if you keep repairing them you will see that eventually you will have to replace them. But there are some simple things you can do to make your home appliances’ life a lot longer.

The first tip is to ALWAYS clean them according to the instructions in the user’s manual. I know that most of you don’t even bother to open this manual, but you should. If you respect all the instructions written there and you clean them as soon as possible, you will keep them functional for a longer time. Do not use just any kind of cleaning solution you have in the house because some of them might damage your appliances and you will break them.

The next tip is to always keep them clean and remove all the dirt and grease and all the food crumbs every time you use them. If you don’t do that in time they will pile up and will be harder to remove. But it’s not only that. If you leave the crumbs in the toaster for example they will burn in time and this can lead to overheating and finally it will stop functioning. Not to mention all the smoke released in your kitchen.

Finally – keep them all away from water and heat. Do not place glasses of water on any appliance like a TV set, the microwave over etc because accidents do happen all the time and if the appliance is connected to a power source, it will burn instantly. So try to avoid it.

You may think this is obvious, but we ignore all these instructions most of the time and we are the only ones to blame for the often breaking of the electrical appliances.

Now you can see people wearing watches very seldom because we all have mobile phones and they can be set to display time when they are not used, do they can be pretty good replacements for the old-fashioned watches. Any way, before even the normal watch and the clock was invented, people measured time by using hourglasses. They measured a certain pre-determined amount of time and were used mainly as timers.

These hourglasses can now be found in old shops who sell very old things and also can be very modern and be purchased in an art gallery in the middle of the city. Normally they are made of wood – I mean the old one, which were used somewhere in the eighteenth or nineteenth century. These are the genuine articles. But there are also modern homes who would be the perfect match by using a minimalist style and an hourglass made of metal which shines brightly.

These beautiful hourglasses are mainly decorative now and they no longer serve their original purpose – that of measuring time for people. They are mostly decorative right now, or at least can measure a certain amount of time, but only for fun or to prove they still work because you would not follow all your activities based on how many times you have turned the hourglass.

Besides, they all look so nice and sometimes the sand inside is colored in a peculiar way just to look fine on your furniture.

People have used beds for ever, even if they weren’t always in the form that we know nowadays – as they were beds of hay, fallen leaves, wool and many other materials. But chairs are a lot younger, as they have appeared later, once the human brain has developed a lot and once the human position started being perfectly vertical. Even now chairs are only used by people, as none of the animals can use them, so we can say it is something for the clever persons.

Well, if you watch the technological world that surrounds us and the huge skyscrapers built only for offices, you will realize that we live more than half of our lives at the office and we need something to say that. We need a statement of our position and power and the fact that, we, women, are as good as men and even better. And Diva chair designed by Matthias Demacker is the perfect statement. The chair is incredibly red and comfortable, elegant, but also useful. You can use these words very rarely in the same sentence, when describing a thing, but this Diva chair is very classy and beautiful.

This chair does not have a back rest, but it looks very feminine and also has a part that is lower than the rest , backed up by a taller one which can be used with this function. But the simplicity and the style really impressed me, even if I am talking about a chair, not a diamond here.

The most unusual and unique feature of this chair is the shape like a comma, but the longer part is actually a footrest. Use it when you are tired or work on your laptop or anything else, but you will love it after ten hours of work in your office.

Dalian Shell Museum

I like unique things because they are one of a kind and especially because some people had the nerve to imagine something different and to stand for their idea until they have accomplished it. Dalian Shell Museum is the perfect example for my words, as it is a singular building, designed by some very creative architects and designers. Even the name is both a hint and a part of reality, as this museum really houses over 5,000 kinds of precious shells from all over the world, but it also has the shape of a shell.

Actually the building is covered by multiple shells that overlap each other looking spectacularly together and being just a symbol of what lies underneath the roof. This unique museum is located in Dalian province, China and covers more than 18,000 square meters of land.

The outside of the building is mainly made of glass and stainless steel, so it reflects the surrounding environment perfectly, looking green or blue in turns. It looks transparent from the inside and lets the natural light of the sun go inside, but at the same time reflects it and “borrows” the color of the sky or of the nature around it. If you ask my opinion I will say only one word: “spectacular”. Oh, and it reminds me somehow of the Opera House in Sydney, Australia. I guess it’s due to the shape.
