Minimalistic bin by Shigeichiro Takeuchi

Most of the times the most simple things are the best or at least you are convinced that they show good taste. And if at home you are completely free to show your personality by choosing whatever design you may like for your furniture and the color that you love for the walls, when you are at the office you must make sure everything looks professional and is good taste because this makes always a good impression on the clients.

Today’ s topic of discussion is a very simple and nice … office bin. You would not think too much when buying this item, but this one looks really nice and is both very useful and good looking. The most important feature of this bin is that it looks nothing like a bin, so you can place it anywhere in the office, without the need to hide it like you normally do with bins. It actually is a white plastic cylinder that has a wooden lid. Thanks to the leaning position of the lid, it looks almost like a tree trunk, which is really cool and you can take it for an interior design object rather than recognizing a bin. But this is exactly the purpose of the designer, the Japanese artist named Shigeichiro Takeuchi.

Staircase storage by Danny Kuo

Space is very important for all the houses, especially if you live in a small apartment where you try to make all your belongings have their own place where you can reach easily. The smallest and most crowded place in a house is usually the hallway because you always need easy access to your shoes and boots, but there’s never enough space for all of them. Not to mention the fact that you have different shoes for different seasons and there are normally more people living in the same house, each with their own shoes to store. And in this case you need the best solution.

I have seen many ideas, but this one that I have recently discovered was the most appealing. It is the staircase storage by Danny Kuo. It looks like a bunch of drawers and little cabinets or storage places that are all suspended on a metal framework. As you can see in the pictures, these “drawers” have different sizes, so the largest one is places at the bottom and the smallest at the top. That is the perfect representation of the staircase.

You have easy access to all the drawers by simply pulling them up front and opening them. And, if you want to reach the top drawers, all you have to do is pull the bottom ones that will be the stairs that allow you to go up to the top. Pretty imaginative, right?

All these storing places have a very simple design and are made of wood, but differ from a regular drawer because they also have a lid. So they look like wooden boxes more. Any way, when you are not using this staircase storage, it takes the minimum amount of space in your hallway, which can be really important. You can visit the designer’ s web site for further details.

Benefits of one piece toilets

One piece toilets are a recent product development and are gaining popularity all across the world. The distinct difference between the traditional two piece toilet and one piece toilet is the flush tank. In the two piece toilet, the tank and the bowl are separate and are joined together during the installation process. However, in the one piece toilet, the tank and the bowl are molded together as a single device. Though the flushing mechanism of both the types is exactly same, but one piece toilet possesses several benefits over the traditional type.

Here are some of the main benefits –

a) Low profile design – One piece toilets have a low profile look. They boast sleek and modern designs and are suitable for limited space. It is not only shorter from the front to back but its height is also short. They are ideal for disabled people and convenient for the young children. Moreover, these systems also provide more space above the toilet for storage, cabinets and shelves.

b) All parts are included – Unlike the two piece toilet where the tank and the bowl are sold separate, all parts required for the installation of one piece toilet are included in the toilet unit itself.

c) Variety of designs – One piece toilets is available in an array of designs and colors. Many of them also feature built in seats, which are generally not found in the other modern toilets.

d) Easy cleaning – due to the design of one piece toilets, they are easy to clean and maintain. There are fewer crannies and nooks where dirt can collect.

e) Durability and longevity – One piece toilets are much more durable than the two piece toilet as they are manufactured out of a single piece ceramic which implies one piece toilets are free from all sorts of joints. No pipe elements or tanks are exposed to moisture and hence make the one piece system long lasting.

f) No overflow – One piece toilets do not overflow when they are obstructed.

g) Water savings – Most of the one piece toilets are available in water saving design. There are two types of flushes, – whole flush and partial flush. The whole flush uses around 1.5 gallons of water and partial flush uses a little less than a gallon for a flush. Partial flush can be used when urine is passed and consequently, water can be saved.

Meitan Tea Museum in China

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 11:59 AM PST

I have recently found a very unusual building while surfing on the Internet. Apparently there are enough creative architects in this world who are daring enough to new and innovative designs for the buildings they create. For example some buildings no longer look like buildings, but they resemble different other things that you can find in the kitchen for example. That is the particular case of the Meitan Tea Museum in China.

China is known as the country that has been growing tea as a traditional occupation and the green tea produced here is famous all over the world. So we can say this region in China can be called the country of green tea and Seitan the hometown of green tea. No wonder they thought of opening a big museum dedicated to tea. And in order to make things perfect, the Chinese thought it would be a great idea to make it look like a giant teapot.

Right in front of it you can also see a giant teacup that completes the whole picture. If you see the building from the distance you do not even realize it’s an actual building but think you have an optical illusion or maybe someone has thought of a trick to make things look larger. But that happens because you can’t see the windows from the distance, that become visible only when you come closer.

The building is 73.8 meters high and reaches a maximum diameter of 24 meters.
