Posted: 20 Nov 2010 07:45 AM PST If you ask a girl what is her idea of a perfect room she will certainly mention a lot of pink and a heart-shaped bed. If you ask a guy the same thing you will most likely hear something about a mini-fridge filled with beer and football chairs. But in the real world these two different species have to co-exist, so they have to make some compromises. That is why most living-rooms and bedrooms are totally neutral both as color and furniture. However, every once in a while men are willing to accept to spend the night in a heart-shaped bed , but this is only to prove their love for the wife or fiance. So I strongly advice all women not to try this at home and order a heart-shaped bed for their bedroom, even if they are in the first year of marriage. Make yourselves a favor and find a hotel with such a bed where to spend your honey moon or Valentine’s Day, as heart-shaped beds are most likely to be found there. I love all these nice-looking beds that look like a heart and I honestly love those that are not red even more. For example I simply like the pale pink one and the white one with blue insertions. This one , in the picture above, is an unusual bed because apparently these colors do not fit together : spring green, very dark green and pink. But somehow the combination looks nice. And here is my favorite: the blood red heart shaped bed. It may sound too sweet and sickeningly “Valentine Day” style, but I love it. And I swear I would buy one if I weren’t married. |
Posted: 20 Nov 2010 03:23 AM PST An ancient habit of people all over the world says that it is polite to give your guest a treat. This treat differs depending on the time and geographic region, that is the cultural and social influences of the time. Guests were offered food, a glass of wine, a cup of coffee, tea and also sweets or chocolates. But if the guests have children it is more appropriate to offer them fruit. And you can do that by placing a bowl with fruit on the table as an open invitation that they should help themselves whenever they want more. But you should keep these fruit bowls on the table whenever you have fruit in the house in order to be able to get one whenever you feel like it or to allow your children to do that easily. However, besides the practical purpose these bowls can also be used as decorative objects as most of them look pretty nice. And, if you know how to combine them with the furniture or the overall design of a room you can get spectacular effects. You can use for example these colorful bowls shaped like umbrellas to cheer up a room and bring a bit of color in it. They are made of ceramic and are colored in different shades, looking like small upside down umbrellas and I like these funny decorations very much. They are called yumbrellas and are actually a project belonging to the British designer Benjamin Hubert. If you are an eco-friendly person you can try using some fruit bowls that are made of palm tree leaves. They are very nice and easy to use and biodegradable. And as a plus they look really nice on a table that is made of wood and they do not break if the kids happen to drop them off the table. If you use them in the kitchen and it is very clean or , on the contrary, very colorful you can use these nice and simple white bowls. If you have a modern house that uses chrome and has a minimalistic design, then the two models of fruit bowls will be perfect for you. If you want to choose from more models like these or different, just go here . |
Simple flower arrangements for decorating your home Posted: 20 Nov 2010 12:49 AM PST If you want to add a festive look to your home or you simply want to make it look warm and nice and you don’t know how to decorate it or what to do, you can use flowers and the effect will be amazing. A very nice looking room will look even better with a perfect flower arrangement on the table. And I am not talking about spending a lot of money for paying the florist for the elaborated flower arrangements. You can do that yourself by trying to make some very simple flower arrangements. Here are a few tips for you. If you want a special arrangement for Halloween or Thanksgiving you can look for a special bowl or vase that looks like a pumpkin and then try to find many kinds of flowers that have almost the same color – orange. Even if they are different, they will make a very nice arrangement if they have the same color. If you want the arrangement to be a bit more obvious you can add two red roses and the effect will be amazing. If the room is very colorful already, with lots of furniture and books and decorations it is recommended to use a very simple arrangement, preferably white. You can simply buy a bunch of white flowers and then either cut them equally long and put them in a small vase, or try to cut them of different lengths and place the shorter flowers at the base of the arrangement and the taller ones standing in the middle. Then fill the rest of the arrangement with middle sized flowers and the arrangement will be perfect. For a spectacular effect you can try to add some flowers that have the same color as the color in the room – for a blue walled room add some violets in the white bouquet or for a pink room some pink roses. But make sure you spread them and not keep them together. Remember that white goes with any combination and if you are not sure , simply use only white and you can never be wrong. Another tip is the choosing of the vase: use short vases for short flowers and tall vases for long flowers. Do not use long flowers in short vases because they will lose balance easily and fall on the table and will also look bad. You don’t even have to use a special vase, but you can use a glass or a bowl that can hold some flowers with water in. The focus will be on the flowers, not on the vase. If it is transparent you can add some colored stones on the bottom of the bowl and the effect is granted. |
What to choose for your bathroom: a bathtub or a shower cabin? Posted: 19 Nov 2010 12:41 PM PST I like them both, but you can choose between them depending on your taste, your personality or the size of your bathroom, as all these factors are important when you want to decide whether to have a bathtub or a shower cabin at home. First of all the size of your bathroom is really important. If your have a big bathroom you can afford to choose either a huge bath tub or a shower cabin or even both if it is big enough, which is the most convenient. You can use one at a time, depending on your mood and you can also have a quick shower while your wife enjoys her time relaxing in a hot water bath tub smelling like heaven. On the other hand, if your bathroom is really small you have no other alternative than to have a shower cabin. It’s modern and you can choose one with all the options and some models even have a miniature bath tub attached where you can put the babies for example after you have taken them from their special baby tub. Also having a shower cabin is recommended for very athletic quick people who are always busy and always in a hurry, never finding enough time for a long bath, but only for short showers, as they will not use a bath tub even if they had one. However, bath tubs do have a lot of advantages: when you are tired and totally stressed out you can enjoy a hot bath in the bath tub that you have filled with foam and scents . And, if the bath tub is big enough for two you can relax there and spend some quality time with your loved one. |
Fire Station Inn Apartment in Adelaide, Australia Posted: 19 Nov 2010 11:55 AM PST I have read about many unique hotels that opened their business in the most unusual places, like a house tree or an old airplane. And today I happened to find some intriguing photos with a fire truck inside a hotel room. As the photos were pretty intriguing I wanted to find out more about them and so I came to read about the Fire Station Inn in Adelaide, Australia. This small hotel is housed in an old fire station that was closed some time ago.
Actually this is a wonderful idea and those who are thrilled of seeing what it’s like to live inside a fire station have the chance to do it. The apartment is very comfortable, of course, and you get all the conditions that are offered by other hotels, too. But you benefit from the presence of a monster fire truck right in front of your bed and also some other objects around, all of them colored in red and that used to belong to the old fire station. If you were one of those boys who said they would like to become a firefighter then do not miss to stay a night in this nice apartment at the Fire Station Inn. The room is surrounded by little details like a small red ladder or an old fireman’s cap on the coffee table, right next to a red mug with the word FIRE printed on. However, only one apartment is designed to look like that old fire station because all the rest are pretty normal looking. But somehow, I have the feeling that most people who get there will ask for this particular fire apartment to stay on. |
Give Your Bedroom an Underwater Theme Posted: 19 Nov 2010 11:33 AM PST One of the most exquisite places to visit is an underwater world and this is the reason why an underwater theme is so popular all across the globe. Adopting an underwater theme for your bedroom will impart a unique and distinct look to the bedroom. Designing your bedroom with an underwater theme is not only easy but an interesting task to execute. Follow the following steps in order to give your bedroom an underwater theme – 1) First of all, you need to decide on the type of underwater theme you wish to incorporate. You can make your room appear straight out of "The little Mermaid", or make it appear like whale and dolphin galore or impart a subdued look.
2) Choose your color palette. The most obvious choice is always blue. However, there are a lot of other colors also that are found in an underwater world. Green, pink, beige, yellow, cream, etc is some of the color shades you can introduce into the room. 3) Start off with the walls. Use a gradient of colors. The layer closet to the ceiling should have the lightest shade of the chosen color. The color shade should gradually go dark as it approaches the floor. You may also get sponge painting done on the walls, or else you may hire a college student to paint something on a wall. 4) Do not forget to paint your ceiling, as a white ceiling will destroy the theme completely. Dressing the ceiling in light cream or beige will enhance the underwater theme. 5) Visit a nearby beach and collect lots of sea shells and sand. Keep this in an empty fish tank or container. Sea shells may also be used to decorate the borders of mirrors and paintings. You may also place real fish, underwater plants and coral in a fish tank and add authenticity to the room. 6) Incorporate subdued lighting fixtures in the room instead of one or two bright lights. 7) Add various decorations and accessories that would support the underwater theme. For example, you may place a clock in the shape of a dolphin or star fish, hang wind chimes with fish cut outs, etc. Introducing maritime accents and pirate ships shall also elevate the mood. Place some green leafy plants in a corner to an extra touch to the underwater world. 9) Buy bed sheets, comforters, pillows that have prints of fishes on them. Finding these in the stores will not be difficult. |
How to Bring Feminine Details into your Home Posted: 19 Nov 2010 11:12 AM PST There are scores of individuals that long to bring feminine details into their home and make it an exquisite place to live in. Home décor items that bring in pastel soft colors, curvilinear form and asymmetry are some feminine attributes. If you love delicate shades over the bold ones and love the feel of liberal flowing interiors then your décor may be perfect for feminine attributes. Here is a list of ways to bring feminine details into your home – 1) Delicate muted colors – Most of the people assume that pink is the only color which can add a feminine touch to the room. However, soft tone of any color is feminine. So simply select your favorite color and use a muted tone of the color to impart the room with a delicate feel. Pair up the muter shades with contrast or dark shades to increase the visual interest and give weight.
2) Curvilinear form – Curving lines and free forms are one of the vital feminine décor attributes. Modern interiors are generally more traditional and linear, whereas romantic décor is always more feminine. Consider using natural elements such as soft wood and leather.Get ornate details done in soft wood. 3) Lush fabrics and materials – Sumptuousness bed with fluffy pillows and downy comforts are loved by all of us. Make use of soft fabrics and materials to subdue the hard lines of furniture. Floral bed sheets, touchable textiles, and accent rugs with plush textures shall impart a feminine feel to your house. 4) Playful pairings – Since feminine colors revolve around delicate and pastel tones, it is better to pair them with varied patterns and contrast colors. Light pastel colors become more prominent when they are paired with exquisite browns, blues and even black. Do not use Feminine décor for each and every element of the room. For instance, if you are using feminine colors for the wall, extend it to the textiles and play with dark colors and patterns for flooring and accessories. 5) Random design – for feminine décor, you need to adopt asymmetry décor and not aligned décor. For grouping pictures and displaying collections, do not obey a strict rule. Instead let your imagination play and use your ideas freely. 6) Add feminine touches to the room such as a glass vase with a bunch of pink roses, a dresser with a moisturizer and perfume, a basket full of aromatherapy oils and candles along with a burner. |
