Colored kitchens

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 10:54 AM PST

You might expect to have special designs in mind only for the bedroom and the living room, as they are the most important rooms in the house. But the bathroom and the kitchen are important, too and they should be treated with equal importance. Because, as far as I am concerned, I can’t cook or work in a place that I do not like, a kitchen that is not well arranged and nice-looking.So I think colorful kitchens make you feel alive and happy, willing to work in a nice kitchen.

Warm colors are perfect for obtaining this effect and they are more full of light , too, which is a positive effect on the whole house. In the first picture you can see a very sweet combination of colors: the pinkish shade on the walls completes perfectly with the whiteness of the furniture and give an amazing result.

The yellow kitchen is perfect in combination of yellow and brown, especially the chairs and the table, but there can be a lot of options. If you play a bit with the tiles and the wooden flooring you can get related shades of yellow and in the end a very optimistic and lively kitchen.

Well, the last one is a bit more special, as it is mainly black. Actually the furniture is black, but the overall dark effect is lowered by the whiteness of the walls and the ivory flooring. This is the perfect example of modern kitchen that is more likely to be found in a bachelor’s house. If a woman ever enters this kitchen you will immediately see a colorful spot in a corner, somewhere.

Silk bedding

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 10:26 AM PST

People have different tastes when it comes to the way they prefer resting or sleeping, so you can’t be sure what they will answer when you ask them if they prefer cotton or silk linen. Any way, most people prefer cotton because it keeps you warm, it is resistant and it is not very pretentious. Another plus is the price, as silk bedding is a lot more expensive than the cotton one.

However, for some reason, there are still a lot of people who like sleeping only in silk bedding. It might be the softness and delicate touch of the silk, the fact that silk instantly heats when it touches your skin, as it “borrows” human heat instantly. Most of these people have a lot of money because regular people are satisfied with normal cotton bedding. Or maybe it’s the satisfaction to live in luxury sheets the one that makes them love this material.

You can use silk even for the baby ‘ s bed, especially if it is a girl But again, even silk bedding may differ a lot in quality and only if you know enough things about it you will know the difference. If you are one of these people who simply love silk bedding you should try visit these web sites: Kaboodle, Made in China, Babble or Silk Road.

The Martyr lamp – an energy saver project

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 09:57 AM PST

Do you have a bedside  lamp that is lit all night long? Well, if you do you might consider paying a visit to the guys from The Play Coalition who thought about an interesting way of making people remember that they must save energy. They designed a unique and interesting little lamp they called “Martyr”.

This Martyr lamp looks like a little man who is trying to take the cable out of the wall plug and leave you in the dark. This way you will save a lot of energy because these bed side lamps are on all night long and they consume a lot of power for lighting a house with all the inhabitants sleeping in it.

The design of this funny lamp is nice and funny, but also very simple. The light bulb with a round head looks perfectly like the head of a little man and the legs and arms are easily made of plastic, being actually a support for the lamp. The lamp that you can see in the pictures was only a prototype after the initial design, but I guess you could easily turn it into mass production since the message is clear and loud: do not waste energy, especially when you do not need light as you sleep.

Bookshelves for children

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 09:03 AM PST

My children are little, too little to read and definitely too little to go to school. But they have their own bookshelf because they have so many story books and coloring books that I prefer keeping them in a place where they can reach them easily and if I put them in my bookcase this will not be possible.

It might be an exaggeration only for those who do not have children but you will certainly need bookshelves for the kids and here I will make four great suggestions to inspire from. I mean the first and best suggestion is to try to find a bookshelf that is both functional and fun for a child, for example this playhouse hideaway with bookshelves on each side. It can be used as a theater, a tent, a place for hiding or a little house, depending on the game.

Then there’s this nice red fire station bookshelf that has an alarm bell, too, which is perfect for little boys. The little girls will love the third model – Tea Party bookshelf that you can buy for $84.99. These last shelves are stacking and you can use many as you need by simply placing one on top of each other. These shelves can be used for storing both books and toys, so one more reason to buy it.

The last model is the Sling Bookshelf whose shelves are made of canvas. They are very easy to use and you can wash them easily if they get dirty. You can buy it for $59.99 and you can use them for storing all the things you want to be able to find in no time and when trying to clean the children’ s room really fast.

Make Your Room Look Boho or Bohemian

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 08:35 AM PST

Luxury, comfort and romance are all words that perfectly describe a Bohemian décor, making it the ideal décor choice when setting an atmosphere of your room. Bohemian style is a very different décor style and is largely based on use of lots of artistic elements. It is very much alike to the foreign gypsy look, and it gives you the exceptional opportunity to showcase your artistic abilities.

Follow the below mentioned tips if you desire to make your room look Boho or Bohemian look –

1) You need to start with the decoration of your walls. Select gloss or semi-gloss paints in bohemian colors such as browns, dark reds, gold, and purple. Remember that the Bohemian look is marked by rich colors, so stay away from vibrant, bright and pastel shades.

2) Decorate your room with large, wooden and ornate furniture pieces to impart a bohemian look. Large armoires, four poster beds, linen chests are some of the options. Vintage furniture pieces stained in dark mahogany wood is also very Bohemian.  You may also use a large chest for decoration in your living room, which may also be used as a storage space.

3) Contrast your dark furniture and walls with delicate and light linens such as lace and satin. Select bedspreads, pillows and curtains that are feminine and elegant. Sheer fabrics that drape beautifully can be used for decorating the tables, armoires, windows and even your four poster bed. Select colors such as pinks, creams, whites and beige with subtle accents in silver or gold to add a romantic touch to the room.

4) Set off the atmosphere of your Bohemian themed room with cool lighting. Bright lights are a complete "NO". Make use of low wattage lamps. Use candles all around the room. Drape your existing lamps in fabrics to match it with the décor. You may also hang a traditional lantern in a corner of a room.

5) Finally, finish off your Bohemian theme with the right accents. Silver and gold framed mirrors are known to enhance the look and so do the silver and gold candle sticks.  Antique books and small trinket wooden boxes may also be displayed. Incense holders and incense are also very much Bohemian, especially the interesting ones. Traditional teapots, vases and other pots also look good. Do not forget to add a touch of life to your room by bringing in numerous indoor house plants.

Amazing light blue and white living room

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 07:56 AM PST

The Italian photographer Francesco Lagnese has an eye for nice interiors and combines different things and furniture in a room so as to match perfectly and obtains quite spectacular result. Just take a look at these photos that show a nice living room that is all decorated in light blue and white.

It’s the perfect balance between white and blue and the shade of blue is perfectly chosen to create an almost surreal living room design. At least I thought I was in heaven when I saw the two pictures. The immaculate white walls contrast in a pleasant way with the blue of the curtain and the couches are both blue and white , sitting on a wooden flooring that is unusual in color but still remarkable. Even though I have never seen blue flooring before, I must admit it is not artificial at all, but looks pretty nice.

The photos on the walls and the huge impressive mirror, all adorned with crystal ornaments suggest a woman’ s touch in this living room, but it could very well belong to a married couple. The blue coral on the table, the white vase and the beige shells, the same color as the square carpet on the floor only complete the whole picture and bring a bit of color in the arrangement so as to avoid monotony. And, on top of all things, the incredibly graceful white chandelier hanging from the ceiling seems to supervise the peace and quiet suggested by this design.
