| How to decorate your home for Thanksgiving Posted: 15 Nov 2010 10:27 AM PST Thanksgiving is that time of a year when families and friends get together to share experiences, appreciate the blessings and gifts in their lives and convey thanks to each other. Thanksgiving is held during the autumn season, which imparts the perfect opportunity to decorate the house in magnificent colorful ways. For Thanksgiving, you need not put in too much effort as Christmas but with little creative tips you can easily spruce things.
So let's find out what are the great ways to make your home an inviting and warm place on this Thanksgiving Day – a) Since it is going to be the autumn season, decorate your home with the colors of fall. The foliage of autumn can be used to make stellar centerpieces, arrangements, and garlands. Collect leaves from your neighborhood and spread them on the countertop, hearth, under glass top table, under candle display, frame them in a picture, place them in decorative bowls, etc.
b) Autumn vegetables and fruits also make wonderful tradition decoration items. Pumpkins and gourds are the best choices. Do not limit yourself to the mini ones instead use a pile of full size versions outside your front door or along the edges of steps and walkways. Alternatively, you may also fill a wheel barrow, basket, or a planter box with the harvest vegetables. c) For your table, consider setting out elegant, wooden and ceramic bowls. Use a colorful table mat or settle for placemats in scrap fabric with matching napkins. If you have a large dinner table, place a cornucopia as a center piece. You may also use a hallowed out pumpkin filled up with clusters of nuts, berries, wheat sprigs, corn, fall foliage, etc. Write each guest's name on a dried leaf with a gold or black felt pen and place them at the respective table settings.
d) Do not forget to create a warm scent throughout your house. Keep a bowl of potpourri in your kitchen and light pumpkin scented candles in each room. For candle holders, you may use small little jars dressed up with some acorns and pressed leaves. e) Use bedspreads in muted shades of gold and orange and arrange lots of red, yellow and orange throw pillows on your couch and bed. f) Twine gold and orange lights in any plants or trees near your doorway. Alternatively, you can also hang the lights. |
| Kids carpets with cartoon characters on Posted: 15 Nov 2010 10:24 AM PST Children of today are more and more encouraged to be independent and that is why they have their own room in the house where they can play and watch cartoons and do whatever nice childish activities they want to. So parents do their best to arrange the kids rooms as nice and pleasant as possible, so that the children would love spending time in their room. So a very good idea might be to purchase a nice rug or carpet that you know for sure they will love. And the essential feature is to have a pattern or print with someone or something they already love.
And cartoon characters are the perfect choice and you will never be wrong if you choose a carpet or rug with your children’ s favorite characters. They are usually colorful and very well painted and the kids will enjoy the time they spend in their room.
The carpet should be as large as possible so that it could cover most of the room . This feature is very important, especially if your children are small, because they stay mainly on the floor and very rarely stay on the bed. So, if the carpet is thick your kids be protected and will not catch a cold immediately.
Another important feature for these carpets is to be easily washed, either by hand or even in the washing machine. Kids are a lot more careless than adults, so I bet there are daily accidents there that lead to a rainbow of food and drinks stains all over the carpet. Besides, being on the floor most of the time, the children are more likely to “taste” the germs that might be found there, in the dust. If you like these carpets you can buy them online here, here and here.
If you don’t know exactly what is your son’s or daughter’s favorite cartoon character just pick one that all kids love, like these Disney characters loved by boys and girls equally like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and so on. Vacuum them every days – sometimes even a few times a day and clean them regularly and they will last until your kids will no longer be kids, but teenagers and will have different tastes.

| How to make a living room look larger? Posted: 15 Nov 2010 10:12 AM PST Today, living room is the central point of most of the homes. It is the place which is used for varied purposes. From watching television, relaxation, eating meals and entertaining guests, people are known to spend most of their time in the living room. However, with house prices soaring high, small living room is a common problem. Some people even consider spending thousands of dollars to enhance the area and generate extra additional space. Fortunately, there are many other ways to make your living room look larger and without spending a lot of money.
Given below are some easy tips to make your living room look larger – a) Selection of the right color scheme for your living room is a vital task. Many people prefer to paint their walls in bold and dark colors. Although this is the latest trend, but smaller rooms appear more smaller when painted in dark colors. In order to make your living room look larger, dress your walls in light colors. It is not necessary that you settle for shades of white and cream. Lemon yellow, ivory grey and sky blue are some popular options.
b) Oversized furniture with huge cushions and large armrests make a room look small and inadequate. Incorporate a minimal amount of furniture in your living room. Few chairs, a table and a couch would be enough. c) The thumb rule is – less the floor is seen, the smaller the area shall appear. So try to use furniture with skinny legs and consider glass tables instead of solid wood or slate tile tables. d) Heavy and dark curtains may keep the heat out during summer months but when it comes to make a living room appear large, they are of no help at all. Try to use light and sheer curtains as they allow light to travel into the room and create the illusion of larger space.
e) A central focal point in the room shall draw the eyes away from the room size and visitors will focus more on the appearance and style. An impressive focal point can be developed with decorative scones, exquisite paintings or wall mirror. f) Another way to make the living room look larger is to make use of bright lighting in the room. If there are windows that allow natural light to travel in, then there could not be anything better than this. |
| Modern chadeliers for the dining room Posted: 15 Nov 2010 09:26 AM PST When I hear the word “chandelier” I immediately think about French and about the old nobles that used chandeliers to light their rooms. Apparently this was something only the rich afforded and the poor only afforded a single candle in the whole house and sometimes they even used only the light of the fire. But now chandeliers have turned into something less of a luxury and is a normal sight in our homes. However, the shape and size differs a lot and also the structure, as they use now electricity.
All the chandeliers that you can see here are very modern and simple, most of them made of simple glass and not crystal like the old ones used to be made of and you can easily purchase them online on Style Path. You can choose from a big variety of modern models that are very nicely designed. For example the first model is just like a balloon made of raindrops of crystal and works with ten halogen lights. You can imagine the amazing lighting effect.
The second model is made of chrome and looks like an unusual combination of twisted and turned branches that end with some refined little spheres among which the ten light bulbs are smartly disguised. This one has one branch only and it has a very beautiful flower made of glass whose petals are being hand painted.
The next model is made of nickel and has very nicely refined hanging ornaments that are silver and red and a very modern look. Actually all the models are very modern and simple at the same time, being perfect for the modern homes.

| How to remove cigarette scent from the house Posted: 15 Nov 2010 07:28 AM PST My father in law smokes like a chimney and all the things in his house have a nasty smell of long lasting cigarette smoke that lingers around. And once a year, when he is gone for the vacation in the mountains I go to his house and clean everything and try to take out this smell because my kids love grandpa and I love my kids. Any way, now I know exactly what to do , but first time I did this operation I had no idea what to use to get rid of that odor and make the air in the house at least bearable. So I asked around and I did some research and I found out a few valuable tips that I want to share with you now.
1.The first thing to do when you want to remove the cigarette smell from a room or even from a carpet or a coat is to open the window and let the fresh air in for a whole day and hang the smelly clothes outside.
2. The next step is to vacuum the whole house, carpets and all, all the hidden corners where the bad air might linger. Wipe the carpet with a cloth soaked in carpet detergent and water, leave it for a minute and vacuum again. You might consider adding some drops a lavender for a nice scent and maybe some vinegar for refreshing the colors. Which leads us to step number three.
3. Use vinegar that was poured in a bowl to make the smoke smell disappear. At first it will be covered by the vinegar smell, but it is then absorbed somehow and after you air the room one more time the vinegar smell will totally disappear and you will breathe only fresh air. This solution really works , unless all the air fresheners that only cover the smell and it will eventually reappear.
4. Baking soda. This is a very efficient solution that is able to remove very strong odors . Make a solution out of water and baking soda and spray it on the surface that you want to clean and then leave it for a while before wiping it out. 5. Wash all the curtains and clean the windows and if none of these methods work I honestly think there’s no other thing you can do. |
| Things to consider before you buy a dishwasher Posted: 15 Nov 2010 01:01 AM PST Dishwashers, which were earlier known as luxurious items, have now evolved as essential, time saving kitchen appliances. Whether it as an average income household or a high income household, it is impossible to manage without a dishwasher. Buying a dishwasher is not an easy task. It is a big investment and should not be done on impulse. There are numerous factors that should be though about before selecting a dishwasher. Size – The first consideration is the dishwasher size. Choose a dishwasher according to the availability of space in the kitchen. An 18 inch dishwasher is ideal for two to three persons and can hold up to eight plates setting. On the other hand, a 24 inch dishwasher has a capacity for fourteen plates setting and is ideal for a family. Some of the dishwashers also have foldable racks and tines to accommodate different shaped utensils.
Type – there are three types of dishwasher – countertop, portable and built in. Each of the dishwasher types boasts its own features and benefits. The selection of a type will depend whether you own the place or it's on rent. Portable and counter top models are economic options, whereas the price of built in dishwasher varies with its style and features. Energy efficiency – Check the energy guide sticker on the model to know about the water and power consumption of the model. A dishwasher that boasts an energy guide sticker will save energy and money than the non qualified models. Wash cycles – Typically, dishwashers have three wash cycles – normal, light and pans and pots. Some of the models also feature rinse and hold setting to hold the wash cycle till the load is full. It is always better to purchase a dishwasher with multiple wash cycles so that you can select the cleaning level in accordance to the dirt on your dishes. Cycle time – the normal cycle time for a standard dishwasher to clean the dishes is around 80 to 140 minutes. Longer cycle time does not imply that the cleaning will be better. So if selecting a dishwasher, the cycle time must be within the range. Design – Dishwashers are available in an array of colors and designs. White and black are the most common colors. Dishwasher with a stainless steel finish also looks good, but it will show finger prints and smudges. |
| Unique wall mirrors from Opulent items Posted: 14 Nov 2010 08:12 PM PST If you place a mirror in front of a cat it will think it’s another cat there and will try to scare it away because animals do not recognize their appearance in the mirror. People not only recognize it, but they simply love looking at themselves in the mirror and getting “pretty” for a date for for showing off at the Mall. Women are famous for spending hours in front of the mirror when putting their make up on, but all the men use them, too. We all have mirrors and use them even for checking if the clothes look right.
My point is that mirrors are functional objects that help you see your own reflection in them. However, there are lots of mirrors that are used only as decorative objects that look cool on the walls of your house or have both a decorative and functional purpose. Let’s take for example this beautiful heart shaped mirror that is actually made of many smaller heart shaped mirrors. It is mainly decorative, but you can see its face in it, even if divided in fragments.
These mirrors are totally functional, but because they are so many and have different sizes, you can use them to create a personalized design by simply arranging them in different ways in order to obtain nice and modern designs on the wall.
Somehow I seriously doubt that you can use this mirror for finding a new white hair on top of your head. Though it looks great in the hallway.
Talking about creativity – those guys from Opulent items outdid themselves when they designed this amazing mirror that is shaped like a bird. It’s an work of art and it is made of finely refined polished stainless steel. You can see your face reflected in it, but you’d better use the bathroom mirror for that and let this one be an ornament.
