| Posted: 12 Nov 2010 06:47 AM PST Front doors are an object of art, fashion statement and necessities. When choosing a front door for your new home or replacing your old front door, you shall have several options at your disposal as there are varied materials used to manufacture front doors. Steel, UPVC, wood, varied metals and other composite materials are all used for the making of a front door. Even though there are numerous options, but the two prominent materials since decades have been wood and metal. Both these materials possess their own pros and cons, and it is very difficult to point one as superior to the other.
Below is a list with detailed features of both metal and wooden front doors that shall help you in the selection of either of them – Wooden front doors are known to be strong and durable. Individuals, who are hunting for an energy efficient material, must settle for wooden doors as they are weather resistant and can protect your home from outside temperature. Wooden unlike metal is a renewable resource and hence wooden front doors are environment friendly.
Wooden doors should be selected if privacy is utmost importance for you and your family. Wood is a sound absorbent material and hence wooden doors block outside noise to travel in the premises and also vice versa. For those who stay in noisy neighborhoods, wooden doors are a necessity and not a choice.
When security comes into the picture, the fact cannot be denied that metal doors provide better and efficient security than the wooden doors. Metal doors can withstand severe weather conditions and hence are perfect for areas marked with extreme hot or cold weather conditions. They also stand well against humidity and can also be used in places with extreme heat and humidity. If you are looking for an aesthetic look, then obviously you will like wooden doors as they are known to impart a royal and aristocratic look. You can go with carved wooden doors that are hand polished or simply choose a sturdy hardwood front door and get it painted in a pastel color. Metal doors have also been known to wear unattractive and cold look, but now this statement is no more valid as metal doors are also available in an array of designs and styles. They can also be custom designed and painted in your preferred color, and you can easily achieve a contemporary look. |

This is not a place where you can reflect eclectic designs and use colors but this does not imply that it has to be done in a conservative fashion. Here is a list of top tips to help you decorate your study room – 1) Utmost importance should be given to the finishing of the study room. A study room requires a comfortable and sober atmosphere so that you can concentrate. For dressing your walls, choose a color that keeps you focused and also relaxes you. Colors like sage, crisp white, pale yellow, trendy coffee color are appropriate.
2) For the flooring of your study room, select a style that complements your home. Ceramic tiles are sturdy and easy to maintain, whereas wooden flooring is known to impart warmth to the room and makes the room look like an office. Installation of a carpet is also a good choice.
3) For the furniture of your study room, people have the habit to stick with the bare essentials. However, this imparts a cold look to the room. Try to make your study room comfortable as well as stylish. Instead of the typical chair, try to get a stylish and comfortable chair. 4) If you have empty walls, then you can have a wooden panel along the wall as a bookcase. If you spend a lot of time reading, then buy an ottoman or a single seat sofa. You may also add a small table near it so that you can use it for placing your coffee cup, books or other essentials. 5) Lighting in the study room should not be too bright but should be sufficient to allow you to do your work without any strain. 6) Paintings and wall hangings look amazing in a study room. | 6 Things you should know before buying your sheets Posted: 12 Nov 2010 02:56 AM PST Buying bed sheets for our home is a pretty complicated task and can leave us all confused. Most of us like soft sheets and that too without wrinkles but very few of us look beyond the fabric texture and its appearance. Bed sheets are available in a wide variety with abundant choices for materials, colors, designs and textures. There are a lot of things that you should know and take into consideration before you buy bed sheets. So here is a list of things that you consider –
1) The first thing to check is the fabric content of the bed sheet. For this, ascertain the length of the fabric. Longer fabric is more durable and luxurious in cotton. Other content combinations also possess several advantages. Polyester and cotton blend means that the bed sheet will not wrinkle easily. They are also cheaper than the cotton bed sheets.
2) If softness is your priority then cotton bed sheets are the ultimate choice. There are different types of cotton such as Organic, Pima, Egyptian and Supima. Each type offers a different level of luxury, but it is the thread count that determines the quality. The higher the thread count, the softer the fabric shall be.
3) Cotton blended bed sheets are known to be wrinkle free, but they are unable to absorb moisture and also do not breathe the same way as cotton bed sheets. They are cheaply priced than the cotton bed sheets and are known to be cost effective as they can handle repetitive wash. 4) Try to find out the weave feature of the sheet as it determines the durability. Sateen weaves are on the sheet's surface itself and therefore, they are softer but less durable. A pinpoint weave is not as soft as sateen weave, but it softens after a wash. Percale weaves are more breathable and durable than the others. 5) Different manufacturing techniques are used and each technique gives way to a different feel. The common techniques used are jersey, combed, flannel and compact. Understanding the techniques will assist you in knowing the seasons in which different bed sheets should be used. 6) If you are prone to allergies than there are certain bed sheets that prevent allergies and hence offer a better sleep. There is a myriad of varied companies producing these sheets and these are usually classified as hypoallergenic sheets. |

| How to build an indoor fountain? Posted: 12 Nov 2010 01:36 AM PST Indoor fountains are gaining extreme popularity all across the globe as they are known to enhance the beauty of an indoor space by adding the element of water. Besides being a luxurious and elite addition to a room, they also provide a soothing atmosphere. They are mesmerizing to watch and relaxing to hear. A variety of indoor fountains are readily available in the market, and you can easily buy one according to your preference. However, if you are ready to put in sincere efforts clubbed with imagination and creativity then you can easily build your own indoor fountain. You will be requiring a container, pump, rocks, flexible tubes, elbow water and bleach.
Follow the following steps to build your own indoor fountain – 1) Firstly, you need to purchase a submersible pump that can easily be found at any hardware store or a store that sells aquarium supplies. Buy the other items also. Assure that the rocks vary in size from small to large and are also of different shapes and colors. You need enough so they cover up the pump and also go several inches beyond it.
2) Choose a container for use. Assure that it is large enough and can hold the pump at its bottom. Also assure that it is wide enough to allow the tube and pump to bend upward.
3) Find a suitable location for your indoor fountain. You will need to place it near a power source so that the pump can work. Furthermore, assure that the cord is close to the wall so that no one trips over. If a table or stand is used, assure that it is strong enough. 4) Place your pump in the middle of the container, connect the tubing to it and place the cover on it. The tubing has to run upward through the rock formation. 5) Place the rocks in your fountain container. Place bigger rocks at the bottom and use the smaller ones as you go up to cover the pump. Assure that the tubing is kept at the center of the rock formation. 6) Once the desired height is reached, cut the tubing and place the elbow at an angle in order to allow the water flow down the rocks. Add enough water to the container so that the pump is completely submerged in water. Plug into an electric outlet and your indoor fountain is ready. |
