Dear Cafe friends,
I got a letter the other day about inmates finishing their term and they are in
need of hygienic items and clothes. I thought of the bible (Hebrews 13:3) where
it says to remember the prisoners. So I spoke with the Chaplin on the phone and
am offering to start a local collection service for these much needed items.
Some do not need to be new - just gently used. It's called an "end of sentence
care package". These are men's clothes. (Is it time to go through your hubby's
closet and weed out the items that fit a bit snug or loose?? ) They will be put
to very good use by someone who is leaving prison and wanting to start a new
life!! See the small list they will receive below -- it's not much:
*towel and washcloth
*deodorant (no Secret for women please -grin)
*toothbrush and toothpaste
*soap (men's smells, not women's - smile)
*pants, sizes 36,38 and 40 are popular
*solid color t-shirts or polo shirts, sizes L, XL and XXL are popular
*dark colored socks
*underwear
*belts
*neck ties
*suit and jackets
As a woman I am very uncomfortable with the thought of going into the jails.
I've done other jail ministries such as collecting books for the Nevada State
Penitentiary and the Colorado Prison System. When this letter came to my
attention I thought of you all and our local corrections facility. Can you
help?? This is an on-going ministry so no need to gather things up immediately,
but can you commit to helping in the next few weeks or month??
