Posted: 26 Jul 2011 10:07 AM PDT

Just when you thought that the inventions were about to take a break, a new material has been created. It's made from recycled, eco-friendly paper and it's what has been used to create this good-looking kitchen. The Paperstone Kitchen, as the name suggests, is made of recycled paper fiber and non-petroleum-based resins. It was designed by Alessio Bassan and it has a contemporary look that makes it great for modern homes.

The kitchen features recessed handles, a sink with sunken taps and a board that can be placed a top for extra preparation room. It has a minimalist design, with simple and clean lines. The only detail is the pattern representing small squares of different colors put together to form a quiet and yet eye-catching design. The kitchen has been designed to offer easy access to all the fixtures. It's a very functional design, great for all types of homes.

Because the design is so simple, it can be incorporated in a variety of different interiors, regardless of the style. Also, its dimensions provide great versatility as it can be integrated in both small and large kitchens. This is an example of how you can create something functional, good-looking and eco-friendly in the same time. Hopefully this innovative material will be used for other pieces of furniture as well.

Glass and driftwood coffee table for nature lovers

Posted: 26 Jul 2011 09:10 AM PDT

Striking and intriguing, this coffee table is the creation of Adrian Wicki and it's called Rhyholzertischli Table. Its name is actually a combination of several words: : 'Rhine',the river, 'Holz' (that means 'wood' in German) and 'Tisch' – that is table in German. As you might have guessed, the inspiration from the Rhine, one of Europe's longest rivers.

Even more interesting is the fact that the base was made from driftwood found on the banks of the Rhine. This makes it particularly interesting and unique. The design is very striking. Of course, the base is the focal point of attention. The pieces of driftwood have been arranged in a way that makes them stable and compact enough to represent the base of a coffee table. In order to increase the impact, the top is made of clear transparent glass that allows you to see all the details of the wooden base.

This is a unique design, a way of getting in touch with nature without having to travel. The concept for the Rhyholzertischli Table is very simple and yet very impressive and striking. The coffee table would make a particularly interesting addition to any modern or minimalist home where it would instantly become the center of attention, the star of the room. It's a piece of furniture designed for passionate nature lovers that would like to bring a piece of nature inside their homes, without damaging the environment.

If you have a fireplace then you know you tend to arrange all kinds of things on the mantlepiece either because it’s a good place where to store things in plain sight and also for decorative purposes. Well, clocks are very common on the mantlepiece as they look great there and also tell time, which can be very useful. So purchase this very special and unusual unfinished clock for your mantlepiece and you will surely have something special. That is because this clock is literally unfinished. It may be round or rectangular, but its lower side is not complete, so the clock arms will rotate fully below the mantlepiece. Well, you can help them by placing the clock right on the edge for a better effect.

This effect is obtained by bending the clock at a right angle so as to have some stability, but a great visual impact. So if you want some unique appearance for your living room, just purchase one of these unfinished clock for just $45 and you can get to choose the shape (round or rectangular) and even colour (red, white or black) so as to fit the room design.

A Breathtaking House in Samosaguas by A-cero

Posted: 26 Jul 2011 07:27 AM PDT

The most frequent things that leave us speechless are usually landscapes, no matter it is about the mountains or the seaside.  Nothing makes us appreciate beauty more than a great view. Nowadays, when people progress in all fields, it is not so difficult to create a beautiful environment if you have the means.

As soon as you see the mixture of cubic forms and curves perfectly matching with the natural context and keeping a modern look, you realize this house in Samosaguas is a great example of spectacular architecture and sculpture. Everybody wishes to live in a house with maximum comfort, but not everybody affords it.

The basement floor is for health and leisure; the pool, the massage room, the gym being only a few ways of spending time in a pleasant way. The ground floor has the rooms every house has, but providing a great deal of space; the second floor has an impressive painting studio with excellent natural light and ideal views over the surroundings.

The interior is harmoniously connected with the garden; the use of good materials give a certain continuity, while the horizontal lines try to produce sculptural volumes and these volumes in layers seem to emerge from the ground, being inspired by the existing sculptures. The landscape has an obvious Japanese inspiration if we look at the flowering trees and bonsais; the ornamental rocks, the pool with its sculpture made of steel in the centre ensure continuity with the lake. If perfection exists, it is definitely here!

When we talk about furniture our fist thought is about tables and chairs, beds and wardrobes, all the usual stuff that is so necessary for our homes. But there’s more to furniture than these pieces. But all the other ones can be found in big homes, where there’s plenty of space for any kind of furniture and where the owners have certain tastes . Today I am going to talk about the modern buffet, a rare, but very interesting piece of furniture. This one is called Verso and is produced by Elite Manufacturing.

This buffet is not made of wood as normal furniture is, but it is modern and stylish and all shiny because it has a curious , but gorgeous combination of metal and glass. The nice curves of the sides hide the metal inside storage container – an ample space for storing champagne and silverware or glassware. The glass racks, shelves and large glass serving area are perfect for a special dinner serving or celebration. The cabinet inside is upholstered and the mirrored sides and also the glass shelves and counter make it both very functional and sparkling with elegance.

Life Size Barbie House in Malibu

Posted: 26 Jul 2011 04:01 AM PDT

Barbie is the most famous and loved doll all over the world and all girls want to have one to play with. She has been part of our kids lives for more than 50 years now and hopefully will still be for many years to come. Any way, even if we grow up, we still have a bit of nostalgia in our souls when we, now women, see a Barbie doll. And, of course, we wish we could live in a Barbie house for at least one day. The only problem might be the size of these houses meant only for playing with them. Well, now this problem is solved because some crazy guy called Jonathan Adler has designed a Life size Barbie house in Malibu.

Well, the interior of this house is designed only with Barbie details and symbols and colours and everything inside looks like Barbie itself has come to life and lives there in the flesh. Everything is shiny and glamorous, perfectly fit for Barbie. But the details make the most of this interior design. Just take a closer look at this star on the living room wall and you will see it is made of dozens of Barbie dolls dressed up as marine girls. The chandeliers have blond hair twisted around their arms and the armchairs and sofas look like Barbie tops tied with a pink ribbon at the back.

You can see Barbie’s monogram everywhere and everything is so pink you almost feel dizzy. There are portraits of Barbie on the walls and colourful decorations, too.  But more about it on the designer’s web site.

DIY Summer Beachy Napkin Rings by BBB Craft Sisters

Posted: 26 Jul 2011 04:01 AM PDT

I am sure that everybody who goes to the seaside does not lose the opportunity to collect some seashells from the sandy beach or some interesting stones from a rocky beach. Some of us keep these objects as souvenirs or use them at home as decorative items.

Now you can use them for a more practical purpose. You may create your own Beachy Napkin Rings which were designed by BBB Craft Sisters that will definitely remind you of the beautiful moments that you spent at the seaside. For these DIY napkin rings you may need some materials like: shells, rocks, beach glass, old napkin rings you no longer use or inexpensive store- bought napkin rings, scissors, fabric glue, cotton rope and twine or embroidery thread.

Here are the instructions for a braided napkin ring: Cut three pieces of 17" thick cotton rope. You can also double or triple the braid for a thicker napkin ring. In that case, cut 6 or 9 pieces of rope. Using a piece of thin cord, wrap the three pieces of thick cotton rope together, about 1" from the top. Braid the three pieces of rope for 6 inches. Make a loop with the braided rope, and use the thin cord to tightly wrap all pieces of the cotton rope together. It is important to tightly wrap them together with the thin cord 1/4" to 1/2" in width so that you can cut the ends of the thick cotton rope short. Tie a tight knot on the underside of the loop. Cut remaining lengths of thin cord. Cut the thick cotton rope very short. Apply some fabric glue on the flat, wrapped portion of the braided napkin ring, and glue your shell or beach find onto the napkin ring.

For a wrapped napkin ring here it is what you have to do: Pull a few feet of cotton rope off the spool, but do not cut it. It's easier to use a thinner rope for this. Begin wrapping the rope or twine very tightly around the napkin ring. Continue until the entire ring is covered. If you run out, cut a long length from the other end and finish from the other side. Cut the twine and make a small knot on the inside of the napkin ring. Glue your shell or rock on the top of the rope.{found on ds}

Beautiful and Comfortable Cradle for Adults

Posted: 26 Jul 2011 02:51 AM PDT

Do you remember the times when you were a kid and had nothing else to do than play and sleep? It was such a beautiful period of time. Obviously, you can't get it back, but you can relive those moments adult-style with this ingenious cradle created for adults.

It was a collaboration between Richard Clarkson, Grace Emmanual, Brodie Campbell, Jeremy Broker, Eamon Moore, Kahlivia Russell and Joya Boerrigter. The cradle helps you remember those moments when you were stress-free and you could just focus on you and your immediate needs. The idea was to create a piece that would allow adults to feel like children again. The cradle was designed to offer maximum relaxation, comfort and calmness.

It's extremely cozy and it allows you to completely dissipate inside, to have a moment just for yourself and to relax. Because of its shape, the cradle swings in various directions. It's the perfect place to fall asleep. The design was heavily directed by a synthesis of research into Autism and children with Rhythmic Movement Disorder (RMD), as well as safety, sustainability, function and aesthetics. As you can see, it was a success on all levels. The cradle might look a little too big so you'll have to find a special place for it in your home. You could try to create a special corner or room dedicated to relaxation and comfort.
