| Posted: 24 Jul 2011 10:13 AM PDT There’s nothing nicer then sitting in your garden on your favourite bench, talking to friends in these warm summer evenings. My opinion is that benches are made with 3 to four seats because you need your friends close to talk to them and share all kind of things. So this bench brings you together and you talk and share and spend quality time together. This bench is perfect for outdoors – for gardens, patios and even for beaches. It is made of teak and it looks great and you can’t help wondering who designed it when you first see its interesting curvy shape.

| How to Grow a Healthy and Nice Looking Lawn Posted: 24 Jul 2011 09:18 AM PDT It’s nice to have a nice and healthy lawn in front of the house, all green and beautiful. But sometimes something happens and your lawn grass turns brown and yellow and it either fades away or get dried and finally looks like a desert garden. Of course that is extremely annoying as all people would like to have a nice lawn, but there are a few things you should know if you want to have this kind of everlasting lawn. Here are a few of these tips and tricks:
- First make sure you water it properly, at least once a week, especially in the morning. I suggest this time of the day because the temperature is lower in the morning, so evaporation is not very high so the water is absorbed in a larger quantity than at noon when it will evaporate a great deal faster. - Another pretty important thing to do is to water the lawn heavily once a week better than 5 minutes every day because this way the water stays only in the surface. If you allow water to go deep, it will make the soli soft and humid and this will develop the grass roots and the grass will last longer. - Try to leave the grass a bit longer, so mow it at the higher level. This way the shadow will be bigger and the soil will be kept more moist and the roots of the grass will get stronger, too. Besides, if you mow your lawn regularly the weeds will be unable to grow. - Make sure you choose the right fertilizer for your lawn. The best solution will be the natural fertilizers but if you do not have access to them, make sure the fertilizer contains nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, too. These are just a few tips and if you want some more, find them here. |
| Water Lily Table by Erika Lovcvist Posted: 24 Jul 2011 08:22 AM PDT In some places, where the climate is a bot milder, the lakes are covered with big and beautiful flowers that seem to float on big and round plates that are their leaves. These are the water lilies, very pretty flowers that inspired many poets. Well, this time, it is a source of inspiration for a furniture designer. Her name is Erika Lovcvist and she designed a whole series of works based on water lilies. One of the items in the water lily collection is the water lily table.
This table looks great and has a unique style, since it looks as if it were made of many water lily leaves brought together on the surface of the water. The designer kept the natural appearance of the plant, including the long natural threads that keep the leaves anchored to the bottom of the water. In this case the metal threads are linked to the table base. Unlike all other table tops that are normally made of a single piece of wood, plastic or metal, this one is made of many different metal water lily leaves that are not glued together. You can even see the little hole on the margin of every leaf, so everything is very real-like. I found the item on the designer’s web page, but I could not find it for sale. |
| Downing Street Planter from AshBlue Posted: 24 Jul 2011 07:11 AM PDT 10 Downing Street is the address of Great Britain’s Prime Minister, but at the same time it is a residence where you can see very nice and big gardens. So this planter is the exact reproduction of the planters used in the garden on 10 Downing Street, which gave its name. The planter looks like a totally black Rubick’s cube with soil inside, ready for the big decorative plants.

| Create Your Own Reading Corner with Recamier from Inbar Paradny Kalomidi Posted: 24 Jul 2011 06:16 AM PDT I am a bit old fashioned so I am used to reading at least half an hour every day and I am very dedicated to this habit. I simply find a corner in my house where I lie down and read a good book, escaping from the real world and living in an imaginary one for a little wild. It’s one of my guilty pleasures that makes me cope with all the other difficulties and hardships of life. So I have always dreamed of having my own reading corner arranged somewhere in the house, a small place where nobody will disturb me. Here is a great idea of a reading corner that is proposed to us by the designer Inbar Paradny Kalomidi.
This unusual combination of recamier – a kind of comfortable sofa – and bookshelves actually makes sense if you think of combining a nice piece of furniture where you can lie down while reading and the bookshelves you need close to provide you the books to read. When you finish reading and no longer need the recamier, you simply place it in the special place that fits the inside of the bookshelves and get some very original living room furniture. Great idea if you ask me. |
