How to decorate your home with fruits and vegetables?

Posted: 08 Mar 2011 09:09 AM PST

Fruits and vegetables are often used on certain occasion and festivals for decorating the home. How about using the same for decoration all the year round? Yes, fruits and vegetables can easily be used to make stunning decorations throughout the year. Decoration with fruits and vegetables is an inexpensive process, and you also have the exceptional opportunity to change the decor frequently.

Fruits and vegetables come in an array of astonishing colors. It is totally up to your creativity to how to use the colorful elements of nature to decorate your home.  However, it is assured that no matter how you employ fruits and vegetables for decoration, they shall definitely vow the visitors and guests coming to your home.

First of all, you need to select an arrangement of fruits and vegetables that you wish to use for decoration. Try to select the seasonal fruits and vegetables, as you can buy them for cheap and they also last longer. In addition, try to select a variety of fruits and vegetables in terms of colors, shapes and textures.

Select containers and vases in which you would decorate the fruits and vegetables. Vases can only be chosen if they are transparent or translucent. However, it is better to select large containers with large volume so that a number of fruits and vegetables can be decorated.

Fill the vases and containers with the selected fruits and vegetables.  The bigger ones should be placed at the bottom, and the smaller ones should be placed at the top. In addition, the fruits and vegetables that are soft should also be kept at the top. Use your creativity to arrange them.

Some tips – arrange asparagus stalks around the perimeter of the bowl and tie them with a ribbon, decorate individual grapes on the edges of a flat plate, spread a lettuce leaf on a plate and arrange the fruits and vegetables on it, intersperse the arrangement with leafy vegetables, herbs, leaves and flowers.Place the decorated bowl as a center piece on a table or a desk.

If you are creative, then you may also carve fruits and vegetables in stunning patterns and blend them with knife peels to create decorative displays. Fruits and vegetables filled in long glass bottles and jars also look amazingly good.

Three ideas for Decorating Your Garden

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 08:57 PM PST

When you have a garden you can use it or not and you can also make it look amazing or simply leave it to the wild plants. But it’s a pity to have a piece of land and never use it, especially when you can make it your own “piece of Heaven” with little effort. Here are three ideas of what you can do with little time and effort for decorating your garden and having your own spot where to relax and escape from the daily stress.

1. First you can use natural rocks to make your own “rock garden”. That does not mean that you have to turn your whole garden into a rock arrangement, but you can use a corner where to bring a few natural rocks of different sizes together. And for a better effect you can place some soil in between them and plant some specific garden flowers that like rocky corners. It gives a “mountain” look to your garden and it’s not difficult to get.

2. The second idea is to build a small “waterfall” or at least a small artificial river. It sounds more complicated than it actually is. The most difficult part is to find some flat stones for the “river bed”, but you can build one of cement if you want to. Just make it as natural as possible, arranged in steps and use the water supply in a closed circuit, meaning you will re-use the water falling on the rocks again and again.

3. The last piece of advice – make a birds house from small pieces of board and wood. You can make these bird houses yourself and have fun at the same time together with the whole family, especially the kids who will be glad to help you. And if you offer free food and shelter I am sure the birdies will come visit you soon. Paint these bird houses in nice colours and you will have a new decoration for your garden.

The Bucket Barstool

I can enjoy a nice idea and innovations that use old ideas or objects and turn them into something new by simply adding a touch of personality or changing their appearance a bit. However, this “innovation” attempt can go to extremes and the designers only create a ridiculous product when trying to do something innovative. Like this unusual bar stool that is made … out of a metal bucket. You know the buckets used by farmers when they used to milk the cows. Well, just add four pieces of wood for the legs and a comfortable seat and you have the “Bucket barstool”.

This unique bar stool was created by a couple of young designers of Scandinavian origins, who are working in South Africa at the moment. They try to combine handmade elements with machine made ones and create something original. I personality appreciated their originality when creating this product, but I don’t think I would ever use this barstool when actually sipping my soda at the bar.

Ways to decorate your home with seashells

If you have a collection of sea shells then you must know how exquisite they are. However, these wonderful elements of nature end up being stored in a box after they are picked from the beach. How about using the gorgeous sea shells to decorate your home? It is an expensive way and all it shall cost, is a trip to the ocean.

1) Purchase a large open bowl or jar and fill it up with a variety of sea shells to create an interesting center piece for the table. You may partially fill the bowl with sand and then place the sea shells. You may also add Spanish moss, dried flowers, pinecones or other interesting motifs with the sea shells.

2) Purchase an inexpensive and a plain photo frame crafted out of wood from the market. Paint it in a light shade or may also allow it to flaunt its natural look. Stick sea shells on all sides of the frame with the help of a glue stick. Use the frame to display some of your best pictures.

Seashell wreath is another great way to decorate the home with sea shells. Purchase a simple wreath from the craft store. Stick different types of sea shells in varied designs and patterns with the help of a hot glue stick. You may also add dried flowers or leaves to it. Display the seashell wreath outside your front door or on an idle wall.

Collect sea shells of varied sizes and shapes and string them together. You might require drilling a hole in each sea shell to allow it pass to pass through the string or wire. If you are running short of sea shells then the same effect can be created by using white beads between the sea shells. Hang the garland near the front door or drape it over a mirror.

A simple looking mirror may be transformed into an exquisite piece of art. You simply need to glue clusters of sea shells at the corner of a mirror. Alternatively, you may also glue the sea shells on both the sides of the mirror.

If you have some flat shells, then you may display them as candle holders. Place some sand in the flat bottomed shell and stick a candle.

March is a special month for most of us. The first of March marks the first day of spring, the moment when we all expect warmer days, the appearance of snowdrops and a rebirth of nature.

For us Romanians, the first of March is the day when we offer and receive a "March", a symbol of spring which is accompanied by the specific white and red thread. Here there are some examples of living room interior designs which combine these two colors, red and white, which remind you of spring symbols.

These living room interior designs show you examples of modern, spacious rooms which combine the two colors in a symmetrical way so that they complete each other very well. Sometimes there is used more red or more white but they always complete each other. At the same time, these colors contrast each other so that they create a special, beautiful effect.
